Kristie | 19135 comments She even called the EMTs to give her orders to use R.I.C.E. Now she is under doctor's orders to put her feet up and rest. What else is she going to do while resting with her feet elevated but read? To me, that is practically doctor's orders to read. Right? That was some impressive planning. ;)

Hope it's feeling better today, Margo!

Jenn, you’ve been reading my mind!

message 1459: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4526 comments We sold our house today. Closed the deal. Tomorrow we start our drive to Texas. It's a strange feeling. My husband lived about 60 years of his life in this town. We've spent the past 12 years living in the house he grew up in. For him it isn't leaving the house that makes him sad, it's leaving the town he grew up in. But moving is a good thing, and we'll be close to our only grandson. New beginnings, fresh starts. I told him I'm thinking of going a little goth just for a change. He wasn't amused.

In anticipation of not having wi-fi when I want it, I borrowed some books from my present library for my kindle. I got
The Nature of Fragile Things
Unsettled Ground
What Lies Beneath
Yellow Wife
The Guide
The Woman with the Blue Star

Plus several through Kindle Unlimited. I'm set for a road trip.

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Roz, I understand the feeling. It certainly is unsettling to leave the town you have lived in all your life. But I believe in new beginnings. I'm sure you will make the best of it. Drive safe, and I wish you both the best of the fresh starts!

message 1461: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Btw, THE NATURE OF FRAGILE THINGS sounds good. And I read THE RIVER, by the author of THE GUIDE and loved it.

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Congrats on the sale of your house, and best luck on your new adventure.

Kristie | 19135 comments Congrats on selling your house. Looks like you have some great reads prepared.

I have read The Nature of Fragile Things and really enjoyed it.

message 1464: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Best of luck Roz! I was born in the house my parents still live in (and have done so since it was built in 1974 or something). Sometimes I think about how at some point they will have to sell it too. That's just so weird, the idea of other people living in that house and not being able to go in there anymore. So I guess I understand a little of what you're going through.

message 1465: by Roz (new)

Roz | 4526 comments Thanks for the good wishes everyone. The house was built in 1927 and my in-laws owned it from 1950 until they had both passed on and my husband became sole owner. We moved in with my mother-in-law about 12 years ago so she wouldn’t be alone. Before that we lived in another family house in the same town built by my husband’s grandparents in the early 1920s. It stayed in the family until we finally sold it in 2008. It’s very weird having strangers living in a house that was in the family for so long, but as long as we have our memories the house will always be ours.

message 1466: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Oct 21, 2021 04:06AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Understand Peggy. My mum sold her house in Dec 2020 that we moved into when I was 15 and she remarried. That was really weird, even though it wasn't my childhood home as such, it was still our family home of 22+ years. I just didn't think they would move, ever.

The weirdest thing is Lexx and my really good friends bought it without us or them knowing (we found out when the offer was accepted). And now we're going around there with them living in it. I haven't told the 8 year old how to sneak out of our bedroom window yet. I'm sure he'll work it out at 16.

message 1467: by Rusalka, Moderator (last edited Oct 21, 2021 04:08AM) (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments So excited for you, Roz! That will be very hard for your husband I'm sure. I know the benefits will be good though, so just need to make sure he focuses on that.

Drive safe, and look forward to hearing from you in your new home!!!

message 1468: by Esther (last edited Oct 21, 2021 05:37AM) (new)

Esther (nyctale) | 5191 comments Best of luck Roz. These things a always bittersweet but a new adventure awaits, tons a new memories to be made with your grandson.

My grandfather built the "family house" in 1920. Up to a few years ago, there was still my aunt living there. We she died, we (my cousins and I) all looked at each other and realized that not one of us could move in. I was the place where we all stoped to sit a the kitchen table (Quebec folks for some reason, hang out in the kitchen, not the living room) and chat. As a kid, I probably spend as much time there as I was at my parents'. And so my cousins. All family events were located there, etc.

So we did one last big Christmas party in there. I think we all needed that closure.

Jayme | 4518 comments Good luck on your new adventure Roz!

message 1471: by Jayme, Moderator (last edited Oct 23, 2021 03:14AM) (new)

Jayme | 4518 comments Well the floors have been installed and they are beautiful - love the style and color; however the installer used the wrong kind of cleaner to remove the glue spots, so my matte finish now has shiny spots everywhere. They tried to remove them can't. District manager of the company was called in - can't figure it out, so now the president of the company is coming on Monday to look at them and make a decision on what to do.
In all probability they will likely end up removing these floors and reinstalling new ones. Crossing fingers that it doesn't come to that. The only creatures that are happy about this are my cats because they are playing and sliding all over the new floors because we are living in the primary bedroom since we can't place any furniture and they have tons of playing room.
On the plus side I think I will have badge 3 completed soon since all I'm doing is reading.

message 1472: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments YESSS!!! I DID IT!

The girl who rather waited 30 minutes for the next train than run to catch an earlier one, did 5K! And it felt so good!

I've already got voices in my head downplaying this and making it not that much of an achievement (walking in between, not very long stretches of running, blabla), but NO. I'm just going to be happy and proud for the rest of the day!!

message 1473: by Rusalka, Moderator (new)

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments As a non-runner, that is amazing!! I can speed walk 5k, and run in spurts, but sustained has always been hard for me. Even when I was a lot lighter and younger, running and my body never have seen eye to eye.

So super proud of you!! This is a great achievement and don't listen to those stupid voices!

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments Jayme wrote: "Well the floors have been installed and they are beautiful - love the style and color; however the installer used the wrong kind of cleaner to remove the glue spots, so my matte finish now has shin..."

I'm glad they are in and look good Jayme, but how annoying!! As someone who has accepted "little" things to avoid annoyance with house renos, I strongly recommend that if they offer to replace, just do it. It will be annoying for another week or so, but so much better than staring at something every day and going... why?

Great to hear the cats are having fun, and your challenge is benefiting lol

message 1475: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Awesome, Peggy! You sure should be proud! Walking in between is ok. Keep going and you will walk less and less, and the stretches will be longer and longer. And it will happen faster than you think. You got this already! And the best part is that it felt good. That is the whole point, isn't it?

message 1476: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks Hannah and Rus! This wasn't sustained for 5k, but I hope to get there too.

Missed your message Jayme. Annoying!! I agree with Rus, you don't want to look at it and be 'meh' for years to come.

message 1477: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Jayme, I agree with Rusalka. If it gets to it, just do it. My mom always says "we are already in the dance floor, so let's dance".
Fantastic that you are happy at how they look. You picked the right ones.

message 1478: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments We crossed posts Sandra, but yes, you're absolutely right!

message 1479: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4518 comments @ Peggy - Congrats on the 5K!!

Henry says the same thing about the floors as you all. The furniture is already moved and they told us that they will do what ever they have to to make it right at no cost to us - so no battle there.

As long as the house is ready for the holidays all is good. :)

message 1480: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments That's awesome Peggy, what an achievement!

Jayme, I hope they relay them for you, don't see that there's any out of it for them. That's so frustrating though.

I have an A&E appointment later today. I really wish I'd gone in when the ambulance people asked me too right after me fall 2 weeks ago, I think I was in shock and didn't realise how badly I'd hurt my leg. Since then the thoughts of sitting in a car for an hour and then an hour back again has been impossible to contemplate from a pain POV. Luckily I have now healed enough to go LOL

It may seem pointless but I will need some xrays before I can get any physio 😉

message 1481: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19135 comments Oh no, Jayme. That is such a hassle! Hope they work out the floors quickly.

Way to go, Peggy! I'm with Rus. I can walk a 5K and run tiny spurts if I'm feeling energetic, but not even close to running a 5K. Honestly, I can't remember the last time I even tried to run. You should be super proud of yourself and hush those voices!

I like your mom's saying, Sandra. I'll have to remember that.

Good luck with your appointment, Margo. I hope you get good news.

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Way to go Peggy! Pat yourself on the back and feel great about it.

I'm glad they are going to fix the floor, Jayme. Hopefully it will be done quickly. In the meantime the cats have a fun playground. :)

message 1484: by Peggy (new)

Peggy (pebbles84) | 15868 comments Thanks all!

Good luck Margo!!

message 1485: by Cherie (new)

Cherie (crobins0) | 21536 comments Awesome on your 5K, Peggy!

Jayme - I hope they figure out the correct process for removing the glue when they install your new floors the second time around.

Best wishes on your A&E apt, Margo. I hope it turns out better than expected after they check the x-rays and you heal quickly!

message 1486: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Okay, it's broken! I'm in a cast from ankle to knee. I have to go back to the fracture clinic in 2 weeks and until then rest and elevate the foot. I have bo choice but to read and watch netflix - oh the horror! 😉

message 1487: by Jayme, Moderator (new)

Jayme | 4518 comments Oh no Margo. That was me last December. Enjoy your "down time."

message 1488: by Sandra, Moderator (new)

Sandra (sanlema) | 11259 comments Wow, Margo! And you endured a broken leg for 2 weeks! I hope the cast helps you feel less pain, and that you heal quickly.

message 1489: by Kristie, Moderator (new)

Kristie | 19135 comments Oh no, Margo! Hope it heals quickly and feels a little better now that it's casted.

message 1490: by Janice, Moderator (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 59882 comments Yikes! Rest up and take care of yourself.

message 1491: by Margo (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Actually the pain hasn't been that bad when I'm not putting weight on it. I had a bad sprain a few years back and that was much sorer. The problem this time is that it's my "good" leg i.e. the one not impacted by my stroke, so I'm completely out of action.

Jayme, how long did your break take to heal?

It depends on what type of a break you have. I had a hairline fracture in December and was in a cast for a month with crutches and then a boot for another month, but I had also sprained my ankle at the same time so they were healing both. 3 years prior I had a compound fracture and was in a cast for 3 months with crutches and then a boot for another month.

message 1493: by Margo (last edited Oct 24, 2021 12:17PM) (new)

Margo | 11628 comments Yikes! I didn't even think to ask what kind of fracture it is, I was so shocked to hear it was broken. Guess I can find out in a fortnight!

How's y9ur stability now?

Rusalka (rusalkii) | 19204 comments I'm off to the wedding of the decade. 25 people, masks on inside and out, but we can now have a sit down lunch after. I'm apparently kicking the whole thing off with my reading I just found out (no one is going to be paying attention to me is what I have to remind myself, there is a bride!). My brother and Lexx have a grand idea of climbing a tree to put the Go Pro in to film it for those not there...

Wish us luck!
