The Best Thing You Can Steal (A Gideon Sable novel Book 1) by Simon R. Green

Here is my review:

A funny and still serious book, rich in atmosphere and with great characters.

Always suspenseful!

CBRetriever | 2551 comments finished my 5th, 6th and 7th books (it might be interesting to know what books Christine is reading):

Eight Cousins by Louisa May Alcott
Rose in Bloom by Louisa May Alcott
The Best Science Fiction of the Year: Volume Two

and started Long Time Gone by J.A. Jance.

I enjoy Jance's mysteries. They're light reading and usually have a satisfactory ending.

I'm having some trouble focusing at the moment but I did manage to get a start on The Beast Must Die. So far I'm liking it, although I must say the narrator is probably not someone I would like in real life. Luckily for me, I don't have to like the characters in books I read.

Araych | 676 comments Seven Up Seven Up (Stephanie Plum, #7) by Janet Evanovich by Janet Evanovich

Stephanie Plum #7, OK to read as a stand-alone but you'll enjoy it more with some familiarity with the characters. This is a very funny entry in the Stephanie series as she tries to track down an elderly ex-mob guy with standard Plum-style results. With the semi-help of 2 stoners and Grandma. 4 stars.

CBRetriever | 2551 comments I'm now reading Lynn S. Hightower's Elaki (or David Silver) series starting with Alien Blues. It's about a policeman with a human and an alien (Elaki) partner and deals with crimes against both species. A touch of humor is in all of them as well. I'm totally enjoying them and they're short unlike Great North Road.

I'm also working on another J.A. Jance book

Bernie Gunther #3, OK to read as a stand-alone. Berlin, 1947. Gunther, a former cop, has survived the war and is hired to go to Vienna to help out an old frenemy. Part murder mystery, part atmospheric spy thriller, all in all a very fine effort from Mr. Kerr. 4 stars.

I found an old copy of Christie's Cards on the Table in my closet, so I'm reading that at night that to offset the much harder read, Confessions of an English Opium-Eater by Thomas De Quincey. I've actually finished that part of the book, moving ahead to his Suspiria de Profundis, which is outstanding.

I'm a geek. What can I say?
