It started for me this week and is becoming very irritating."
Not here ... yet.

Is this on the web on your laptop?

Just Goodreads and on my laptop. It seems to have stopped again. At least I didn't get any yesterday.

They've decided a person couldn't possibly read that many books, so you must be a bot 🤖🤖🤖
Luckily the robots need good book recommendations for Xmas

Yes - drives me crazy!

No problem. It seems to be an issue with the volume of data, so on my iPad I now copy a section at a time instead of a whole document - it’s irritating but it works! It isn’t always worth setting up my laptop unless I have several things to do.
(Sorry, I should have replied much sooner.)
Is anyone else having trouble with GR this morning? Excruciatingly slow, error messages, "there was a problem saving your post", "page unavailable" - I've resorted to saving everything before trying to post (including this one) as it means redoing it! Trying to choose books for a challenge is a nightmare!!!

I'm also having similar issues Brenda!! Slow to load, pages unavailable, and when I'm on the home page (laptop), looking at my "Currently reading" section, the "Update Progress" button under the book I'm reading has disappeared! I've tried refreshing Goodreads, opening a new tab, re-launching my normal browser (Firefox), and opening the page in a new browser (Chrome), and none of it is working to bring that button back!

I formally apologize to my cellphone provider.
I was blaming them for the drops, freezing, error messages, etc., as I tried to add the books I just finished.
Apparently not only is it not a failure of that cell phone/data provider's service, it's not even just an issue on this continent.
So frustrating, time consuming and expensive.

Amen Suz!!
I read e-books from my public library that are delivered through the Amazon site. I use the library's internet either in the library or in the parking lot to transfer/download the ebooks.
I was averaging 40 seconds a book from the "send this book" command to access on my Kindle.
It is now taking over 5 minutes per book and some have to be sent several times.
I have experimented with 3 Kindles and two library systems.
There is not doubt that this is 100% an Amazon issue.

Well mine went off altogether as thought the site was down. I turned off and went to do other stuff. It seems okay now.

I have this problem with no Update Progress button 🤨
GR had a big night and it's not even the end of the year yet...
I'm glad it's not just me! Super frustrating and I wondered if lots of people are on (as it's holidays and the weekend) and GR just doesn't cope with the volume!

In another of my groups, people are discussing the same issue. But someone has commented that this usually happens at the end of the year when everyone is updating plus setting up new challenges. But she also said it resolves fairly quickly.

I hope that happens this year/next year then Tr1sha :)

Here's a note from support which I've picked up from another group
"We’ve temporarily disabled reading progress updates on our homepage due to a high volume of traffic to Goodreads. You can still update your reading progress by visiting any book page, scrolling down to My Activity, and updating your page number or percentage next to Progress. Please visit Goodreads Help for more information."

Thanks for that, Brenda. This whole system of reading communities is actually quite magic, so I guess we shouldn't complain when there are glitches - but, human nature being what it is, we will anyway! 🤣
I wondered if it was a volume of traffic thing because it seemed to work for a while and then drop out and then come back.

Happy new year everyone!

Can't even find a "progress" button under the book page to update. Maybe I'll come back to it in February.

See Brenda's message 824 Alex:)

Every other social media doesn't have "we are broken due to too many users"
🤯

I tried doing this to update my progress but it only has a list of my past progress. I'm using desktop view

Good idea Alex 🤣🤣

Maybe we just have to wait for the the whole world to make it to 2024.
My January drop down is already there Kerri - it was early morning when I did my last review for 2023 and I had to change it from 2024..

Hopefully Amazon sees this huge influx of traffic as a sign that Goodreads is worth investing more time and money in - and improve some of these regular issues.

"1 error prohibited this review from being saved:

It's been a couple of hours now.

I copied what I'd written in the review form (just in case) and refreshed the page. Then I had to sign in again, but when I did, everything I'd already written was still saved online.
I do recommend copying first if you haven't written a review in a different form somewhere else.

It is unusual, when I go back into edit my review is still there but it can't be viewed, & it will not keep the date. I've tried logging off/on to no avail.

Go read a good book and wait until tomorrow! 📚🥂

I still can't save a review for Seduction in Death & view it afterwards. It says it should be here but there's no content https://www.goodreads.com/review/show..., yet if I edit it, the words are there.
Can you see it?
I have removed the book completely from my shelf & started from scratch with no luck, although it's accepting the date now so I guess that's progress.

GREAT! 🥳

I seem to be reverifying my email nearly every month. I do use my laptop all over the place, and hotspot from cafes when I'm writing, but it seems to be more random that that.
I usually figure it out when my email notifications slow and then drop off. They don't seem to all cease at once.
Have (once again) reverified my email address. Sigh...
