It's Not a Sprint, It's a Marathon!

I will be tracking the teams' progress in this thread as well as answering questions as they come up.

Please post here when your team completes a task. I will then confirm completion and assign the next task.

Feel free to ask any questions about the challenge or about tasks as they come up. Throughout the challenge, this thread will likely get you the quickest response. 😊

Q&A:

Q: Can teammates read the same book for a task?
A: There are a couple of tasks where the team needs to read different books, but if it doesn't specifically say that you are free to read the same book.

Lisa (mooselover) | 2262 comments MK,
I have a question about when tasks will be assigned.
Last time you said you would assign tasks every other day, so you didnt have to always be checking.
So for example, so if my team got the task on a Friday, we wouldn't get the next task until the Sunday, providing we had completed it.
However, there were some teams who had their tasks assigned in the between day.
So I am wondering if it would be possible for a team to have the next task assigned on the next available day after they finished their task. Then it would be a true 'race'. Currently, if a team finished their task and had to wait a day it allowed other teams to catch up.
I am not asking literally as you finish you get a new task i mediately, but if you finish on a Saturday to get the new task then instead of waiting another day.

Does that make sense?

Janeylou | 1763 comments Does the captain need to fill in a spread sheet or is it just a case of keeping check of what been read .
And does it have to be captain who confirms the task is finished or can anyone in team do it ( thinking of different time zones )

Hi JaneyLou - no doubt MKat will answer this better, but when I did this last time as Captain I had a tracking post at the beginning of our our team thread however other Captains just created a tracking post as the tasks were completed.

Anyone can post the completion for the team. And this is why tracking the task as you go works. Kat just goes directly to a link to check it off :) Once it is done, it is over and you move on.

Tasks are assigned no sooner than every other day. I think that may be your confusion? So, if you get a task on Monday, you won't get your next task until Wednesday at the soonest. If you finish the last on Tuesday, you would have to wait until Wednesday for your next task. If you finish on Wednesday or Thursday or Friday, you would get the task as soon as I can check your tracking. (I do ask for up to 24 hours to confirm and assign new tasks, but in reality these days - I don't have a lot going on. Still...) This was something that was discussed when we working out the kinks in this challenge and I don't think I want to change it - yet. I am always willing to make adjustments between rounds, and will see how things go this round first and reevaluate then.

I think with your team last time, you always got your task every other day. Most other teams took longer to complete one or more tasks.

Thanks Jane for answering. 😊 She already explained things. Tracking can be done however the team leader decides and can easily be done as we go with this challenge. Anyone can post here when a task is completed, it doesn't have to be the team leader.

As the name should suggest - we pick an author within the monthly where readers can read one of that author’s book or read a book that fits some facts about that author...

Ive run out of Bowen books to read.

message 39: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 21392 comments Thanks for helping everyone!!

And yes Lisa, a co-authored book is ok.

Just FYI, I am really struggling this weekend! We are in the middle of an excessive heat warning (again!) and it's even worse than the last one, so hopefully it doesn't get extended. 🤞🏼 I live at 5500' and we are almost 100, but the bright side is we cooled down to the low 80s overnight. 🤦🏻‍♀️ Top it off with a fire in the southeast part of the county that has us enveloped in thick drift smoke that started about 2 AM. So between lack of sleep, headache, sinuses and asthma - I'm a mess! I will work on getting the participant and team lists updated, but it is going to be slow!

This thread is the quickest and easiest place to answers though, so please ask here. 😊

Yes, for that task the team would decide on a category and all the books would fit the same one.

Yes, it is always a good idea to read the potential task list in advance. Hopefully it won't be a problem that can't be worked around with libraries or other options though.

Courtney | 2307 comments For number 10, does the alternate author name need to be known, or is enough that the person uses a penname? For example, Ruby Dixon's author page says:

Is that enough to qualify?

Lisa (mooselover) | 2262 comments Reading through, there are a lot of series challenges.
If it doesnt say same series in the category, can we take it that we can each read from a different series as long as the criteria is fulfilled.
Looking at it, I think only #9 requires the team to read from the same series.

#64. Read a book not set on a continent where one of your teammates lives.
Jane lives in Australia. Is New Zealand included in that continent?

#97; 98; 100. As it says less than or more than 10, I am assuming that 10 is not allowed.
