Great looking omnis. I would like Marvel to release Peter David's X-Factor in a OHC format. I have read some of them, and the stories are generally very good.

OMG! How did you get the comics that size, did you take them from OHC's? How much did that set you back?

message 2956: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Wow, those are gorgeous. Did you buy them or make/design them? If you designed them, too bad you weren't at Marvel to design the War of Kings trilogy spines.

Wow, those look perfect! Where did you get them done at?

That's an excellent series to bind because I don't think Marvel will.

Ooh_jim | 251 comments Thanks guys. To clarify, I didn't get them commissioned, I just saw them pop up on eBay. They collect everything from the Madox mini to the series' cancellation, except for 'a couple of tie ins'.

The books haven't actually arrived yet, but I'm assuming the pages are just from the floppies - so they'll be regular sized, just bound together in an oversized cover. The only issues of the run that have been released in an oversized format are all tie in issues to events: 8 & 9, in Civil War: X-Men, 25 - 27 in Messiah Complex, and 204 - 206 in Second Coming: Revelations so these 4 omnis plus those 3 OHCs should hopefully cover the entire run.

I'm a big fan of the run, and with the Complete Collection line getting scrapped after the second volume, I figure the chance of them actually showing up in an Omni format are very low.

As far as I can tell, the spine art is taken from the interlocking covers of 10, 11 & 12 (and if it were up to me, I'd have all five DnA cosmic omnis link into one long tableau!)

Nickviola | 1019 comments So just got: Ragnarok Vol. 2, Loki: Journey into Mystery Omni, and... Jack Kirby Fantastic Four World's Greatest Artist Edition... and... it... is... glorious. It has a TON of covers in the back too. Its also original drawing board size so twice a normal page. I can't believe he drew this big.

Anyway... my question is... Does anyone else have Artist Editions and, if so, how the F do you display these things? I want to just hold it forever, but assuming I ever put it down I have no idea where it would go. It takes up SO MUCH room flat, but its obviously too tall for any shelf. The front is gorgeous but I dont know how to stand it outward facing even if I had space. HELP!

Sercapi, Ill put up pictures tonight!

I only have the one AE: Daredevil - Born Again. Needless to say, it's a fine thing. I keep it in it's original cardboard box, lying flat on top of my shelving unit. But if I had the space, I'd love to come up with a better way of displaying it.

message 2963: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments I don't own one but, on top of a low bookshelf on a stand?

message 2964: by guanaeps (last edited Aug 10, 2017 02:38PM) (new)

guanaeps (saethron) | 88 comments Nickviola, I actually use a drawing board to prop up my bigger books when reading them; for a time I left the most recent Jack Kirby Artist edition on it, for anyone to peruse. It fits well, but I'm having trouble even just imagining the size of that new Artist Edition. Can you do a size comparison of that new one and the one that came out a few months ago?

My recent additions include:
Absolute All-Star Superman
Doctor Strange Omnibus with the Alex Ross cover
Doctor Strange Sorcerer Supreme Omnibus
Doctor Strange & Doctor Doom: Triumph & Torment tpb - I don't really do tpb's anymore, but I bought this because the 2% loyalty discount in IST brought the All-Star Superman book to a few dollars short of the $50 free shipping, so I threw this on the order.

For AEs, I saw one pic where someone basically had a mantle about 4" deep. How about an easel?

message 2966: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments I have a few artist editions. They're on top of a shorter shelf which is next to a taller shelf, so the taller shelf creates a good book end. It's not the best way to display the cover art, but it keeps them orderly.

I've seen people use a display stand to display their AEs.

Nickviola | 1019 comments Can you imagine how prolific the man was drawing on that big a paper? Especially keeping a monthly schedule, of multiple titles, each of which was regularly inventing new characters and locations. Just unbelievable.

Thanks, I had forgotten about that one. I'll see if there's something next week I'm going to buy and order it then.

Six books? I thought (and was hoping) only 5. It ended at 50 issues but I guess it depends on how many other spinoff series they had.

Either way I'll probably wait until all of them are released before I continue to read them.

message 2984: by Paul (new)

Paul (paulsaini) | 163 comments Ah thanks Blindzider. I thought they might have a sixth book with spinoffs as you mentioned. I'm hoping for less myself simply because of their size and it tough to store them nicely on a shelf

Paul wrote: "Ah thanks Blindzider. I thought they might have a sixth book with spinoffs as you mentioned. I'm hoping for less myself simply because of their size and it tough to store them nicely on a shelf"

It looks like one of the spinoffs is in Vol4, and there are three other spinoffs. I'm guessing those three and the last 8? issues of the regular series in Vol 5. I too hope it stays with 5, because they don't fit on any of my shelves right now.

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Picked up The Invisibles DLX One and Marvels Inhumanity. Both on a hunch, I have no clue what to expect.

message 2991: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Invisibles is awesome. In hindsight I wish I would've bought the omnibus though.

message 2992: by Karsten (new)

Karsten Krieg | 129 comments Why that? Aside of the obvious an omnibus being an omnibus? Is there some more material included?

I couldn't find any real hooks for latching on that 1536 pages monster.

message 2993: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Book quality and value. Vertigo's "deluxe" hardcovers are lackluster in my opinion, and Invisibles Deluxe have tight glued binding and thin paper. I imagine the extras are comparable, or maybe slightly better with the omnibus. I do own the Morrison Doom Patrol omnibus and the quality is spectacular: sewn binding, thick paper, little to no gutter loss. It's slightly challenging reading something of that size, but the quality is well worth the workout. The Invisibles omnibus is also cheaper than all four deluxes and I didn't get my money back when I sold mine.

My last order was for the Journey Into Mystery Omnibus (kid Loki story) by Gillen. It's easily the best thing I've read by Gillen with his Darth Vader work coming in a close second. The initial allotment of this omnibus sold out from IST. They got a second shipment in. I wouldn't be surprised to see this one sell out relatively quickly.

Also ordered the Millar/Capullo Reborn HC from Image.

Looks like we have a couple oversize books coming out on IST tomorrow -

Batman Rebirth DLX 1
Teen Titans Omnibus vol 1

The Eisner Award winner from 2011, Return of the Dapper Men will be released in HC tomorrow too.

From IDW we also have a graphic novel style biography of Calamity Jane. Interesting that this story of the America West is being translated into English for the first time here. Not sure if the author's were going to strict accuracy or not. This one may be standard size.
