Donovan | 1154 comments Nice haul, Rel. I bought Tokyo Ghost Deluxe but haven't read it yet, just in trades. Really like the story but not my favorite. Also planning on buying the Azzarello Deluxe. You read that yet?

Makes sense... i returned to comics in 2014, after 20 years without buying any, and Omnis and Absolutes co-existed already, and my "bang for the Buck" was on the Omnis... more content, less expensive (taking into consideration the content... lets call it $ cost per page), also high quality.

message 2853: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments I'm with you, Bruno. Omnis and DLXs are just fine for me in price and format.

message 2854: by Reece (new)

Reece (mrrallentando) | 309 comments I agree, omnis are typically the best bang for your buck. However, I have become more a fan of Absolutes in the last year or so. The large format really accentuates the art and the books are impressively crafted. My Absolutes connection has been growing, but I only buy when I find good deals on them.

message 2855: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Just bought Casey and Burnham's Nixon's Pals DLX HC on a whim at my old bookstore. Looks interesting.

message 2856: by guanaeps (new)

guanaeps (saethron) | 88 comments The Y: The Last Man absolutes were a perfect way to show my appreciation to BKV and co. I never bought one copy or trade of Y, so it was almost a moral obligation to purchase them.

The V for Vendetta absolute is f*cking gorgeous, I highly recommend it if you can find it used, got mine for 40 on eBay or Amazon.

message 2857: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Thanks, appreciate the VforV Absolute endorsement! I'm on the look out for anything <45.

As for Y, I have the deluxes and have reread them to death. Would love an omnibus of it which I don't think exists.

message 2858: by Ozan (last edited Jul 24, 2017 12:31PM) (new)

Ozan (dotanuki) | 222 comments I like Absolutes but i don't have many. Only Hush, Kingdom Come, Sandmans, Wonder Woman (Azzarello run) and that's it. I only get entire runs, if i like them in some other format or if they got enough praise. I got hush for Jim Lee art and Absolute was the new thing back then so i was curious. I absolutely love Kingdom Come so owning it in Absolute format was no brainer.

I have 2 Top Cow Absolutes too though. The First Born and Artifacts. I really like Stjepan Sejic's art so i grabed them.

Just ordered the Flash Omnibus V1 (Silver Age). I've never read any Silver Age DC so I'll be trying Flash and Justice League.

- Alpha Flight by John Byrne Omnibus

And hopefully i'm done for a while...

Some good stuff. I've never read new warriors and I'm not sure I've ever read bloodties completely.

I also never read it, but seems "nice", and also has Nova. I think of it as an investment, with the "Marvel's New Warriors," TV series coming out in 2018, the book being OOP... the prices will rise. :)

message 2867: by gxvault (new)

gxvault | 132 comments Bruno very nice purchases
I'm already slowing down since I've so many books to read and such a limited time to do so.
I'm hoping to "return" as soon as possible :)

message 2868: by Donovan (new)

Donovan | 1154 comments Nice haul, Bruno. Especially that Aaron Wolverine Omnibus.

message 2869: by Nickviola (new)

Nickviola | 1019 comments Nice, Bruno! I was surprised by how much I enjoyed Aloha Flight. That is a monster of a book and I read it in a week when I had a new baby and was up all night anyway.

message 2870: by Bruno (new)

Bruno Carriço (bchccc) | 242 comments @Mad Tom @Sercapi Thanks both... Actually got a great price in ebay for that Omni IMO ~around 75$ (only the shipping and customs made it cost more)

@Nickviola I tried to resist for a while to buy Alpha Flight Omni... but it reminded me much of my readings as a kid that i couldn't pass on it.

message 2871: by The Lion's Share (new)

message 2874: by Bram (new)

Bram Ryckaert | 5 comments - Annihilation Conquest
- War of Kings: Prelude
- War of Kings
- War of Kings: Aftermath
- Jonathan Hickman's Avengers omnibus 1

Haven't started on any of them, planning to soon. I'm looking around for the Annihilation omnibus, but can't find it at a decent price. Is a reprint possible at some point?

tbh the other Cosmic omnis are a bit of a gamble because I didn't love the first Annihilation that much. But it's such an iconic run that I took the gamble anyway. I have complete faith in my Hickman's Avengers purchase though, his FF is probably my favorite long Marvel run.

A reprint is always possible but there hasn't been any news. I purchased the WOK trilogy also but waiting for an annihilation reprint to read them.

I was going to say: buy the TPB! but i just checked the prices for them on Amazon and im astonished: $138.73 (Used - Good), 256 pages TPB... this world is coming to an end!

The Lion's Share Blindzider wrote: "How has Dept H been?"

Haven't started it yet. I still have to finish Mind MGMT.

I'm really tempted to read Preacher for the third time. The TV show deviates quite a lot from the book but i'm really enjoying season 2. It's much better now that the Saint of killers is in it.

message 2879: by gxvault (new)

This book (Standard size HC) sounds interesting. And the price for the page count is excellent.

I'm going to give it a shot.

The Uncanny X-Force omnibus is excellent. I assume by both volumes you mean the follow up in Uncanny Avengers? The Remender Uncanny X-Force run has one omnibus or two thick paperbacks. The Uncanny X-Force run is my favorite thing Remender did for Marvel.

If I get one more omnibus this year, that will be the one for sure!

Fluffyroundabout | 202 comments Just ordered:

Red Lanterns Volume 2
Green Lantern - New Guardians Volume 2 and Volume 3
Green Lantern Corps Volume 1, Volume 2 and Volume 3

Gotta catch up to rebirth!

Ozan (dotanuki) | 222 comments I'm pretty sad that Aquaman Rebirth Deluxe is canceled... :/ i was so looking forward to that... Aspecially the later ones which would have Stjepan Sejic drawn issues, if published. :/ It would be a nice continuation to my new 52 Aquaman HCs too. I won't get the tpbs and wait for an omnibus. Hopefuly we will have an Abnett or rebirth Aquaman omnibus or something.

Yeah that really is a shame too. There just weren't enough pre orders. I don't think the green lantern rebirth runs will get an omnibus for a long time if at all so I'll just get the trade paperbacks. As for Aquaman I'm going to start reading the character from geoff johns new 52 run which is highly praised. Do you know if that omni for it is coming out? I heard it was cancelled but it's still on amazon.

I heard that The Geoff Johns Aquaman Omni is cancelled but i haven't checked it out to be sure or anything cause i have it and the rest of the new 52 Aquaman as regular HCs.

Ah ok I'll wait and see if it is out it'll be in August which is soon enough.

message 2894: by J (new)

J | 531 comments Recent editions for me include the Shang-Chi omnis from Marvel, plus the Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu, and some of the omnis that collect the early Lee/Kirby stuff that I don't have in Masterworks format. If I have the MMW, I"m not buying the omnis unless it picks up where my MMW collection stops. Same with DC and their Archives. With the exception of the Legion, if I have the Archives, I'm skipping the omnis until they print what I don't have. For example, since I have archives for Adam Strange and Doom Patrol complete, I'll skip their omnis. But since Silver Age Teen Titans includes issues not in the archives, I picked that one up.

I've also bought the Bronze Age JLA, Teen Titans, and Brave and the Bold omnis. Got the second Perez WW, Knightfall vol 1, also.

I buy tons of trades, and have a stack about three feet high to get through. I need help. :)

message 2895: by J (new)

J | 531 comments I've also picked up a complete runs of IDW's comic strip reprints of Steve Canyon and Terry and the Pirates. Want to get into Dick Tracy, but a lot of those early volumes are hard to find.

Anyone else into comic strips? I bought the first Prince Valiant from Fantagraphics, and it was a gorgeous book with a good story.

message 2896: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I'm picking up the Prince Valiant books as well. They are doing a boxed set of the first three volumes this fall if you want to wait and pick up those. :)

I'm also picking up the boxed sets of the Don Rosa Duck comics. I have the Complete Calvin and Hobbes and all but one of the Complete Peanuts boxed sets (it's just my luck it's the expensive hard to find one).

The Journey Into Mystery/Loki omnibus coming this week is really good. It's the best thing I've read from Gillen with Vadar being second.

message 2897: by J (new)

J | 531 comments I'll have to check out that box set, so thanks! I used to have some of the oversized paperback Prince Valiant they published back in the 80s, but got rid of them years ago, for some reason.

Kitchen Sink used to publish a monthly Steve Canyon magazine that was excellent. They're still easy to find on ebay, but I love these IDW edition.

I'd like to get the Peanuts series, too. Those early Peanuts were a lot of fun.
