This was my biggest order in a long time ( not counting imported french comics which I don't list here).

I have another big haul to order on May3rd however :
- Descender TP 02
- Scalped Deluxe 4
- Uncanny X-Men omnibus vol 1 reprint
- Gotham central Omnibus

Additionally, there is a Gotham Central omnibus out there in the universe! This is why I love this group. May Comic God bless you Aildiin.

I'm planning to get some of this that day too, are Instocktrades going to release them that day exactly? I've noticed that IST takes a little longer to release some stuff than, for example, Cheapgraphicnovels. But I prefer Instock because of the free shipping. Also, how is exactly the discount on IST on a new item? thanks.

message 904: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
On Tuesdays, about 2-3 PM EST, IST will update their website with that week's releases. Some number will be on sale for 50% until the next Tuesday. Some will be discounted less 20-40%.

I've purchased from both IST and CGN and there's nothing wrong with CGN but I prefer IST.

I'm definitely in for the Gotham Central Omnibus and Scalped Deluxe V3.

I'm interested in hearing about the imported French comics, personally. Doesn't hurt. Besides, most BD comes standard in a format larger than US OHC. :-)

Someday I'm going to pick up that Absolute V (I've read it).

Can anyone sell me on the Dark Tower Omnibus? I know almost nothing about it other than Stephen King and Jae Lee.

message 908: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments i cant my wife has been pushing dark tower series on me because she thinks i will like it and then she said why dont i try the graphic novel. She had read the first book and liked it.

message 909: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I read the novels before the graphic version in omnibus format for the Dark Tower material. There is a decent amount of added story in the first slipcase that is not in the first novel. The art is good and the world in interesting. But, it's hard to know whether to tell people they should read the books first and then check out the graphic novel.

Stephen King regards the Dark Tower series as his magnum opus. He was going for a blend between the Lord of the Rings and The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly. The first book is one of his earliest works and he spent years writing the others over his career. The 3rd and 4th novels are my favorite.

The majority of my orders there are old books.
I either order them new from the Website I gave you for Blacksad or I am in contact with a couple persons on the biggest BD website in France that do sell used books ( and a lot of new ones), so once a month or so I get a package.

My last BD haul was :
Marie (Magasin général, #1) by Régis Loisel Serge (Magasin général, #2) by Régis Loisel Les Hommes (Magasin général, #3) by Régis Loisel Confessions (Magasin général, #4 ) by Régis Loisel Montréal (Magasin général, #5 ) by Régis Loisel Ernest Latulippe (Magasin général, #6) by Régis Loisel
La Licorne, Intégrale by Mathieu Gabella
Les Pirates de Barataria - T8 Gaspesie by Marc Bourgne Les pirates de Barataria T9 Chalmette by Marc Bourgne
+ a couple not in the GoodReads database. ( Carmen Mc Callum integrale 2 and Barbe Rouge integrale 3, new edition).

Thanks for the inputs on Dark Tower. I'm contemplating purchasing it in the far future.

Just received Blacksad A Silent Hell and the Parker Martini Edition.

I received the Martini Edition as a gift but it was slightly damaged. I then returned it to Amazon and when I got the refund, turned around and bought another. It just arrived today in about the most useless packing: a single deflated air cushion and the box was about 2 inches too large on every side. It's in better shape than the last one but part of the slipcase is slightly crushed on the corner.

message 914: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments Yes obviously the sandmans. I do not know much of the other stuff but planetary sounded interesting and y last man. My dark tower came with a crushed slipcase corner and I messaged Amazon they extended my prime trial 1 month me have me 20% off.

I highly recommend planetary. I'll try messaging them. I really don't want to go through sending it back again.

The Lion's Share Planetary is great. I can't believe how unpopular it is (as in cheap). Such a unique and awesome story.

message 917: by Dustin (new)

Dustin Boggs (ramkitty) | 91 comments Planetary is cheap? I can't find the first absolute in canada Amazon gave me 3 options: return, exchange and discount both had free return shipping

message 918: by Saugata (new)

Saugata Mukherjee | 180 comments Planetary Absolute is not cheap (you will get gold of same weight, if you invest that much money). But Planetary omnibus is pretty cheap.

Hi Everyone, I have been traveling out of the country and will be back in the states next week. With that I was in Peter Jackson country, and got to see the sets etc. Not sure if anyone here is an LOTR and Hobbit fan.

Regarding King, read all the books myself, thoroughly enjoyed them, the ending was a surprise. He may be adding another one in the future.
Just as a side note my daughter was working in LA for the writer/producer that was adapting it for television.

message 927: by Blindzider, Moderator (new)

Blindzider | 3293 comments Mod
Frank I assume you read the novels? What about the Dark Tower graphic novels? I've never read any King novels so I'm curious if I read the DT graphic novels on their own if they are worth it.

Does your daughter work in the TV industry or was this just a temp job? Hopefully the adaptation will be better than Under the Dome.

message 928: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
Saugata, these cost $30 each to bind and ship back to me. If you google Herring and Robinson you can look at their options and pricing. I had one stamp (Avengers symbol on spine) and the head and tail bands. The comics cost $20 to $30 off Ebay. So my total cost per book was between $50 to $60. Slightly cheaper than some omnibus volumes.

message 929: by Dustin (new)

The wifi on Fiji really sucks, I lost my post twice.

Trying number three. Yes I read all the novels, and the first graphic which I purchased, it was good but at the time I wasn't really reading graphics, so never went further. Now I spend the time reading so many of the group recommendations that i never went back to the Dark Tower.
Regarding my daughter, she is more in film and is now in the agent side dealing with directors, producers, and cinematographers, building her resume.
For about a year first out of school, she was an assistant for Akiva Goldsman's company. There she read books, plays etc, for green lighting into possible production. She knows he is developing the Dark Tower script himself and working with others on the production. On a funny note, she called me one day and asked if I ever heard of Roger Zealzny, duh, Nine Princes in Amber. She was reading it at the time for pre-production. Not sure what happened with that book.
It's funny after Game of Thrones, all Hollywood wants to do fantasy.

@Frank, tough life on Fiji, huh? :) I'm not a beach person but I'd like to go there someday.

That's cool. I'm surprised she hasn't asked your opinion for some ideas with as much as you have read. At one time I was really into movies and considered trying to get into the industry. There are a couple studios nearby and last year when I got laid off I thought about going in and trying to find a job.

I think LOTR helped too. There still hasn't been a fantasy movie that quite fits what I'm looking for. Visually the Warcraft movie looks good but not sure about the story.

Well any book binder can probably do custom binding for this sort of thing. Several of the ones that specialize in it have dies set up (like the Avenger symbol) that your average bookbinder won't have. I like to think India has a bookbinder or two that could help you out. :)

I will say that Steven King's 11/23/63 mini-series is pretty well done thru Hulu. It looks like they are spending the money to get good actors for the Dark Tower efforts too. Looking forward to watching whatever they come up with. :)

P.S. Fiji sounds awesome. :)

In on topic news: I ordered the Captain America omnibus vol 1 reprint and the I hate Fairlyland TPB. I have the masterworks for Cap so didn't buy the omnibus the first time around but decided to go ahead and pick them up.

I've not been a huge fan of Scottie Young in the Marvel verse drawing super-hero covers showing adults as infants. But I looked at a single issue of I hate Fairyland and the story looks like it could be fun. I do like how Image prices their first TPB volumes are about the price of two single issues for 4 to five issues of content.

Saugata Mukherjee | 180 comments Does anybody have absolute Y: The last man and absolute Transmetropolitan.?
what is the verdict? I
Are they worth investing that much money? I know storywise they are incredible. I am more interested in how the art pans out in this size. And do you think somebody should upgrade to it if they have the tpbs?
P.S: I remember the transmetropolitan art to be very good. Does it justify the absolute edition? It is a long time ago, that I have read last man. Can not remember much about it's art:(

message 936: by Relstuart, Mod+ (new)

Relstuart | 2964 comments Mod
I have Absolute Y and Blindzider has Transmet. There is no other hardcover option for Transmetropolitan so the Absolute is probably the best way to get that. In hindsight, the deluxe volumes would probably have been just as good and cheaper vs the Y the Last Man Absolute volumes. The art style is pretty simple and I don't know that it's a much of an upgrade in Absolute version versus the oversize deluxe volumes.

05/04/16 - Guardians of the Galaxy by Abnett and Lanning omnibus

I have both volumes but have only read the first. I liked it but it can be polarizing and it probably isn't for everyone. It's really a commentary on society in the 90's that is well-done but I'm afraid whether you like it or not depends on your tastes. Check out my review for more details.
