One of my longtime friends told me he learnt to speak English (his parents came from Samoa to NZ in the early 1970s) by watching a lot of tv series on at that time and, most especially, Saturday morning cartoons. I have a real question (rather than my usual threadjacking ways). I'm currently reading a book about a couple that was exploring French Polynesia in a float plane when they are stranded on an island. I don't suppose that would count for the spirit of the Columbus Day entry would it? They are certainly explorers and the plane does float in the lagoon...

Struggled to finish Storm Cycle. Can usually read in a book in a couple of hours (if I'm uninterrupted and it's that good) but kept putting this down. In the end, exchanged it for a Crusie/Mayer read and enjoyed that more:
