One of my longtime friends told me he learnt to speak English (his parents came from Samoa to NZ in the early 1970s) by watching a lot of tv series on at that time and, most especially, Saturday morning cartoons. Which would explain some of his rather unusual and quaint phrasing. I miss a lot of the old cartoons *sigh*

Hooking up words and phrases and clauses."
I miss them too. *commiserates*

I have a real question (rather than my usual threadjacking ways). I'm currently reading a book about a couple that was exploring French Polynesia in a float plane when they are stranded on an island. I don't suppose that would count for the spirit of the Columbus Day entry would it? They are certainly explorers and the plane does float in the lagoon...

tosca (catatonichataholic) | 742 comments Struggled to finish Storm Cycle. Can usually read in a book in a couple of hours (if I'm uninterrupted and it's that good) but kept putting this down. In the end, exchanged it for a Crusie/Mayer read and enjoyed that more:

1. Title starts with “O” -One Night with the Rebel Billionaire by Trish Wylie 4 Oct 2009
2. October B-day celebrant - Heat Seeker by Lora Leigh Heat Seeker by Lora Leigh - Corrupt's bookshelf 9 Oct 2009

5. Two authors - Agnes and the Hit Man by Jennifer Crusie and Bob Mayer 18 Oct 2009)
6. Crime Prevention Month - Trust Me by Brenda Novak 13 Oct 2009
7. United Nations Day - still thinking oohh the pressure!
8. Columbus Day - Sense and Sensibility and Sea Monsters by Ben H. Winters 1 Oct 2009
9. Genre Paranormal - Dark Warrior Unbroken by Alexis Morgan 2 Oct 2009
10. Reader's Choice -Lucky Charm by Carly Phillips 3 Oct 2009

Still trying to find something for United Nations category that I haven't read or really want to start.
