Leona (mnleona) | 179 comments I am not a winter person being raised in Texas. I married a Minnesotan. I am already making my list of groceries and things like laundry soap to buy and have during the winter so I do not have to carry in the snow from the garage to the house. This year in April, we took a family cruise from Egypt to Italy with extra days on land. We left with frozen lakes and returned to open water. That was great. I live on a lake.
Crazy weather next week; it will be 91* on Tuesday and 67* on Wednesday.
I have aleady seen the geese gathering to get ready to fly South and the leaves beginning to turn colors.

Groovy- I will have to check on your books you write.

I have "talked" enough.
Have a good day.

Kristie | 5928 comments Leona, that cruise sounds amazing. We were supposed to visit Italy this year, but our plans had to change. Hopefully, next year. I think we'll have to make a few trips there to see the different areas. They are all so different. I'd also love to see Egypt! There are so many places I'd like to experience.

Sorry you had to cancel Italy . My grandparents were from Italy and my ancestor is Titian, the renaissance artist. So much history there.
We want to go back to Egypt when the new museum opens.

Today it will be 92* F for the high and tomorrow it will be 64* F for the high. We do need rain.

A little party in your backyard sounds lovely, Christine.

Groovy Lee I just had to share this link with everyone here. You think you've seen everything...It just shows how amazing creation is. Have you ever seen a jellyfish that looks like fireworks:

Melindam | 4427 comments The theme for this year's UNO team challenge was unusual animals and one of the teams was named after the Firework Jellyfish. :)

I'm glad everyone liked it:)

Elizabeth Brokaw | 3 comments Love that we are talking about spring and summer activities as winter looms! I am not ready for the change in seasons but I guess it is time to get out the SAD lamp and set up my morning book corner to power through.

Good thing tomorrow is an Amazon stuff your Kindle day. Last time I got a lot of romance books and I think I'm going to try to get more mystery/thrillers this time. Is anyone else downloading willy nilly or do you have a plan of attack?!

Meera | 1 comments I recently read the Mnd Fuck series. It's a book that has been on my shelve for a long time and was only picked because I was in a slump yet it managed to be an amazing read. The only thing holding me back from giving it a chance was the cover which failed the story for me. I wanted to know if anyone else has also judged a book by its cover and regretted it. And, do you really think a book shouldn't be judged by its cover?

message 1720: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments I am a definitely a judge a book by its cover person. I do think the it's true that you shouldn't judge a book that way, as it's not usually the author choosing the cover and sometimes they don't match at all. I've read many books that don't match the cover - sometimes it turns out well, other times not so much.

Some examples:
The Orphan Witch by Paige Crutcher - loved the cover, didn't care for the story at all
Moon Called (Mercy Thompson, #1) by Patricia Briggs - The cover for this series always makes Mercy look like she's all sexy and flirty and it's not her personality at all.
The Very Secret Society of Irregular Witches by Sangu Mandanna - I thought this would be a light YA read, but it's not. It's a more solid read than the cover would have you believe.

One that annoyed me was an autobiographical book by David Lodge in which he mentioned that his favourite stuffed toy as a child was a rabbit. The illustrator pictured a child with a teddy bear on the cover.

Kristie | 5928 comments Oh, that's frustrating, Dorothy! Get it right!

message 1724: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee I Love Fall, Christine, but hate what it's leading into....WINTER!

message 1725: by Christine (new)

Christine Hatfield (christinesbookshelves) | 1597 comments I hate fall Groovy and I agree with you Groovy

message 1726: by Leona (new)

Leona (mnleona) | 179 comments The authors do not choose the covers and I recently read the same cover can be used for more than one book. I agree some covers do not fit the book.

I am in Minnesota and the geese are already gathering to fly south. I am originally from Texas and do not look forward to winter.

message 1727: by Kirsten (new)

Kirsten (kmcripn) OMG! Someone has a giant skeleton with wings and glowing red eyes (a la Stranger Things) on a street in town. Well, the thing is motion activated and scared the bejeezus out of my dog on our walk this morning. It not only moved but snarled!

message 1728: by Groovy (new)

Groovy Lee Your poor baby. If it's not fireworks, it's Halloween. Dogs would usually bark back fiercely when startled. I hope your baby gave it a piece of its mind--LOL!

message 1729: by Kristie, Moderator (Retired) (new)

Kristie | 5928 comments Oh no, Kirsten! Poor baby! Must've scared the life out of you for a minute there too!
