Ah. Now you'll have to read his The Inugami Clan aka The Inugami Curse, then watch the 1976 film.

Dr. Siri Paiboun #6. Another visit, in 1978, with Dr. Siri, the 73-year-old national coroner of Laos. I'm reading these in order and I always enjoy them but this one wasn't the best, maybe because we know from very early on who is the murderer. 3 stars.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9970 comments Red 1-2-3 by John Katzenbach Red 1-2-3 by John Katzenbach

A mediocre novelist goes nuts and decides to kill three women and write a book about it, thinking this will be a best seller.

The plot's a bit wacky. 2.5 stars

I like Simenon's mysteries. Low-key (not a lot of bloody scenes and shooting) but atmospheric....with interesting investigations.

Barbara (cinnabarb) | 9970 comments Baltimore Blues Baltimore Blues (Tess Monaghan #1) by Laura Lippman by Laura Lippman

Former journalist Tess Monaghan is getting along with several part time jobs when a friend asks her to investigate his fiancé. This leads to a murder and to Tess trying to clear her friend's name.

This is the debut novel in Lippman's popular PI series. Good story. 3 stars.

message 239: by Bruce (new)

Bruce | 3119 comments Barbara, I just started going through his books recently. They’re very good, and don’t romanticize like many mysteries of the period. Almost noirish. I actually found the first two a bit more graphic than most books of the period, especially the one I just read.
