Wishing everyone a year of great reading!
Pursuit
by Joyce Carol OatesNewlywed Abby Hayman steps in front of a bus less than 24 hours after the nuptials. As Abby recuperates, there's a long flashback to the deteriorating marriage of Abby's parents....which she (partly) blames herself for.
Oates is a gifted writer, but this book is problematic for me. 3 stars

I finished:
Live and Let Die by Ian Fleming
Rating: 3 stars

and I started reading:
A Drink Before the War by Dennis Lehane

Yesterday was just a laid-back, do-nothing day, most conducive to reading. I finished Ashenden by Somerset Maugham, and I've finished The Inugami Clan by Seishi Yokomizo. Late last night I started The Unsuspected by Charlotte Armstrong.
Zoe wrote: "^ what did you think of the chestnut man I thought it was pretty good."I did not like the story. The writing was good but the story was not something i enjoyed.
Yes. I realize this discussion is for 2020 reads, but The Hypnotist The Hypnotist by Lars Kepler Lars Kepler was a late 2019 read of mine that I haven't yet mentioned here and it was a stellar read and the first of s series.
Luckiest Girl Alive
by Jessica KnollAni seems like a supercilious snob who has everything - great job, great clothes, great fiancé - but there's a secret in her past that haunts her.
3.5 stars

Finished The House of Silk by Anthony Horowitz as part of the group read. A commendable reboot of Holmes, recommended to Doyle fans. Rating - 3.5/5

Nantucket Red Tickets
by Steven AxelrodHenry Kennis #4, OK to read as stand-alone. Kennis is Police Chief on Nantucket island, Mass. He's a thinking-man's cop and these books are a lot of fun to read. This one is sort of Axelrod's version of A Christmas Carol. 4 stars, strongly recommended.
Tinker, tailor, soldier, spy by leCarre. Still reading white fang. Finished sins of the father by block. Book #1 for 2020.
The Highwayman
by Craig JohnsonThis novella, which is #11.5 in the 'Walt Longmire' series, has Longmire and his friends dealing with (what might be) a ghost. The book can be read as a standalone.
Good story. 3.5 stars

Goldy helps her cop husband investigate. The book can be read as a standalone.
Entertaining cozy. 3 stars

The Vampire Lestat by Anne Rice
About to start
Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison after finishing the very good
The Daughter's Promise by Sarah Clutton. My spoiler free review can be found at https://www.goodreads.com/review/show... and on my webpage
I finished The Unsuspected by Charlotte Armstrong yesterday. I don't quite know what to make of it, since the plot itself was beyond improbable but I found myself completely sucked into the suspense. At some point not too far into it, the word "gaslight" popped into my head.
Patty wrote: "Nancy, I love Charlotte Armstrong; I read this book in 2018."
I'm not so in love with this book, but it was okay. I'll have to read more of her work.

I just finished The Last TouristWhile the premise of the book is far fetched, if you can accept it, it is a suspenseful spy story. My review, 3.5 stars rounded down.
