Terrific, and you're welcome! I'm actually less of a fan of her Wexford series novels but her standalones are pretty good.

In this 12th book in the series, Inspector Rutledge - a Scotland Yard detective after WW I - investigates a very baffling murder. The book can be read as a standalone.

Good story but overly contrived. 3 stars

Araych | 677 comments A Game of Ghosts A Game of Ghosts (Charlie Parker, #15) by John Connolly by John Connolly

Charlie Parker #15, OK to read as stand-alone but some prior knowledge of the personnel and prior events would be helpful. Parker is tasked by an FBI agent to find a missing PI. This book is a combination mystery and ghost story and is, in my opinion, an amazing literary feat. Highly recommended, 5 stars.

It was just different enough for me to appreciate it, but I'd probably give it the same rating. Actually I did read it earlier to familiarize myself with the novel before the newest tv version of this came out, and I was much more disappointed by the film, which I thought was just awful. At least Miss Marple wasn't in it -- in one older tv version, the powers that be put her at the center.

In this 4th book in the IQ series, the California investigator looks into the murder of an arms dealer's right-hand-man.

Peter Decker #17, OK to read as stand-alone. LAPD detective investigates cold case with similarities to another recent murder. I was not impressed at all with this book. The numerous characters are not well defined and the plot is not only confusing but includes numerous long boring passages of aimless conversations. 2 stars, not recommended.
