2020 Annual Challenge - Twisted Trivia

General Rules:Please read very carefully because there are changes.
1. You must pick 12 different cards and read 12 books, one from each card.
Note: Each book is exclusive to one task. You may not repeat tasks. The same rule applies to subsequent badges.
2. You may not combine books with the Monthly Challenge, but you may combine with monthly group reads, topplers, and buddy reads.
3. The challenge is from January 1, 2020 to December 31, 2020. You must start and complete your books within the year AND within the time that you start the challenge. If you are late starting the challenge, you may not count books prior to your start date. For example, if you start May 1st, you may only count books read between May 1 – Dec 31.
4. Books may be any format (audiobook, ebook, hardcover/paperback).
5. Books must be at least 175 pages long.
➽ In the case of ebooks & audiobooks, use the hardcover or paperback edition to determine page length. From the book page, select “all editions”, then select the first paper edition as your guide. If reading an ebook and there is no paper edition, ask for a ruling. If reading an audiobook and there is no paper edition, your book must be a minimum of 6 hours long.
6. Books may be any genre unless specified in a task. Genres will be verified by the listing on the main book page. In the case of graphic novels or books consisting of a lot of pictures, the text must be equivalent to that of a 175-page book.
7. If a task refers to the title, the subtitle or series title doesn’t count unless specified in a task.
8. If a task refers to the cover, it will be based on the cover of the issue you read. The object required on the cover needs to be prominent on the cover and easily identified.
9. If a tasks specifies a country as a setting, the book should be set in a minimum of 50% of that country unless otherwise specified.
10. Compound words/Imbedded words/Plurals: When a task requires a specific word in the title, it must match the required word as close as possible unless specifically stated in the individual task. It may not be included as a compound word or imbedded in another word. That includes hyphenated words. In the situation of plurals, you may add an "s" or "es", but you may not change the word to a plural form if it's different from the required word. Eg - Mice cannot be used as the plural for Mouse. If reading a book in a language other than English, the word must be a direct translation.
11. Author names: If a task requires that you match initials or specific names for the author, it's easy to figure out when the author has two names. but becomes tricky when there are 3 names or initials. If the task specifies first and last name, then we will literally go with the first name and last name listed. Eg. We would ignore the Jackson in Harriet Jackson Brown. If her name was hyphenated (Harriet Jackson-Brown), we'd go with Jackson. If her name was listed as HJ Brown, or H.J. Brown, we'd go with H Brown. In the case where there are more than one author, either author may be used.
12. Order of Books read: There is no requirement regarding the order the books are read. You can read badges out of order. For example, if you've read a book for Geography in Card 1 and counted it for Badge 1, you may read another book that fits another task for that card and count it for Badge 3 even though you have not finished badge 1 or 2. That may sound confusing, but since Badge 1 and Badge 2 require that you read only one task per the 30 cards, if you read a second task for a card, it would have to be forwarded to Badge 3. You just need to clearly mark it when you track your books.
When you complete Badge 3, you will have 5 completed cards and possibly additional books in other cards that aren't complete. Those "stragglers" will get moved to Badge 4 with the exception of books read for Badge 1 & 2 since those are set in stone and cannot be moved. The same principle will be applied when you complete Badge 4.
You may swap books from one task to another providing you mark your tracker clearly so that I understand what you are doing. Once your badge is received, those books are not swappable.
13. You will need to start your own reporting thread in this folder to track your progress. There will be a thread set up to report your success in completing the challenge and to request your badge.
To set up your personal thread, Click here. For topic, put your WoF name and any other Title. eg. George Gets Twisted. Accept the defaulted folder. Fill out the comment field and save.
A couple of suggestions regarding your personal thread. Link to this thread for easy reference instead of copying all the instructions to your thread. It's lengthy, and you'll want to save space for your own planning and tracking.
Do not copy links to your thread. Not all of the link gets copied and the result could lead you to the wrong list.
Requirements:1. Genre Tasks: If the task specifies a genre, that genre must show on the main book page. In the case where the genre is two words (ie classic romance), both words must show on the main book page.
The main book page genres are crowd sourced and frequently change. It's suggested that you either screen cap the page or ask for a ruling so that you are not disappointed when it comes time to report.
2. Cover Tasks If the task requires an item on the cover, it must be prominent and easily identifiable. When reporting, you must link to the cover.
ReportingEach time you complete a book, you must report it in an individual message in your personal tracking thread. Do not combine books in a message, or reserve messages and then go back to edit. Each book gets it own message written at the time you report it. The reason is that a new message generates a notification (and my attention). An edited message does not and I will miss it.
Please refrain from saving up reports and then doing a mass update. Take pity on me and report no more than 3 at a time. Best practice is to report after completion of each task.
Report each book as follows:
1. Challenge Progress: Identify where you are in the challenge – Badge 1, book 1 (2, 3, 4, etc.)
2. List Card
3 Specify Yay or Nay, and Category
4. Link to book read. REQUIRED: If the cover is part of the task, link the cover of the edition you read as well.
5. List the number of pages of the edition you read. If an ebook or audiobook also give the number of pages of the paper edition (refer general rules on page numbers).
6. Give a very brief summary of the task.
7. State how the book fits the criteria.
8. Specifications required in the task. Some tasks require that you report a specific thing. IE – a task requires that you read a book from a Listopia. You need to identify which position number the book is on the list so that it can be verified.
Sample: Say I’ve read 5 books in the Badge 1 section:
1. Badge 1, Book 5
2. Card 1
3. Yay Task - Geography
4. Link – My Life in France
5. Listened to Audiobook, Hardcover edition is 336 pages
6. Read a book set in France.
7. The book is a memoir of Julia Child's life in France.
8. No specifications.
Requesting a badge:
When you finish a badge requirement, you will need to post in the Year Long Reporting Thread as follows:
WoF Name ________________
Badge Requesting (One, Two, Three or Four)
1. Card, Task, link to Title
2. Card, Task, link to Title
3.
4…… continuing to 12
Sample:
WoF - Janice
Badge One completed
1. Card 1, Yay Geography, My Life in France
2. Card 5, Nay Entertainment, The Vampire's Bride
3.
4….. continuing to 12.
Keep your reporting in your personal thread and in the general report thread neat and concise with no extraneous wordage. This makes it easier for me to verify.
You may use gifs in your personal thread to your heart's content, just not in the reporting messages.
