One time, at one of my Austen book clubs, we compared Shapard's Persuasion vs Harvard Press. Not for a super long time but enough to say there wasn't a huge difference in the annotations. Lol, as I've meet Shapard, I would favor his anyway. I like the layout(never mind the cost) and his style more than the Harvard Press. I have Susan Wolfson's Harvard Press Northanger out from the library as she spoke at JASNA VT this past Sunday(I meet Shapard there the previous year, long bus ride but so worth it). While I like her annotations so far....I will be marking her down a full point if I finish it as she said negative things about the Emma/Mr K marriage. Grrrrrr! She did state that Harvard Press Mansfield Park will out early in 2016. Shapard's MP is scheduled for Aug 2016.

Thank you. I love reading what others think about the books. It is very helpful.
I've been meaning to get annotated versions of the books but hadn't known which ones to try, so it's good to hear that the Shappard ones recommended. Goodness knows when I'll get a chance to read them though, reading time has been scarce lately!

The first annotated edition was brought home from the library by my husband today. It is the Spacks version:
http://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/06.... I took one look through that bad boy and bought it straight away. There are full color pictures of things relating to P & P and a cool map of England back then. I just had to get it. I will be reading the library copy this weekend.
Looking forward to seeing the Shapard's version as soon as it comes in.
Claudine wrote: "I have this too in P&P and S&S. They are beautiful books! I want them all!!!"I should have known you would have these books. You have great taste!
Sophia wrote: "Yeehaw! Tackle that bad boy and share what you think, Talia! ;)"Hoping to start tomorrow night! It is so pretty. :) Worthy of the Pemberley library....
I read Saving Elizabeth Bennet> I am addicted to these Sharknado books. This one was not as violent. I was kind of let down by the amount of gruesome crazy deaths.
So I have read One Thread Pulled: The Dance with Mr. Darcy. Loved, loved this book. I can see reading it over and over. Just wonderful. Jane and Bingley were so adorable. I also love Col Fitzwilliam's style of dialogue. Is there a sequel to this?I also read the Annotated edition by Patricia Meyer Spacks. I can't get it to come up in the search so here is the goodreads link. https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/7...
First, the book is gorgeous and it is so easy to read the notes. In the Cambridge edition, you have to flip to the back to read each note which is a bit of a chore if you lose your place easily.
Second, I love the pictures. LOVE! That alone is worth the price of the book.
Third, as for the notations, I prefer the Cambridge edition. The notes in Spacks book seem to point the reader in a somewhat more negative or darker direction than, at least, I was used to reading the book. She uses what I am assuming are references to peer reviewed articles to support her view so that the reader can see how people of Miss Austen's time might have interpreted P & P. Mr Bennet, Mrs Bennet, and Mary come off worse for the wear, I think. Also, a lot of the definitions given for a word here or there are really not necessary. I am sure that most readers could figure those out in context if needed.
I will definitely keep my copy and try out another one of her Austen editions but still prefer the Cambridge one. They do have significant differences in notations so it is not a pure overlap of material.
Hi Talia. I believe there is a sequel in progress to One Thread Pulled. I remember that I loved it, I remember that the story wasn't completed in book one but I don't remember anything else about the book so I'm going to need a reread when it comes out.Good to know about the annotated ones. I definitely need to invest in some.

Yes Ceri, the annotated books Talia speaks about are beautiful!!! Her comments are so right on too... The whole concept is intriguing (large format, historic pictures, well-written footnotes) and they look beautiful on a coffee table too!!
Yay, glad to get your detailed thoughts on the Annotated version, Talia.
That's interesting that its got a dark thought to it in the notes. Though, that can be informative, too, seeing that others have a different take on JA's works.

I can see that these characters could be thought to be the way described but for me, it would bring everything down a bit more than I would like. My interpretation isn't as cynical. But from the editor's POV that is the way it would have been read originally.
It's funny because Mr. Bennet is the character I struggle to reconcile myself with all the time. I still have a soft spot for him even though many others see him differently. I have four children myself, so I feel a bit torn!!

I blame it on all the different JAFF I have read.
I agree... Can't relate to any of them... I guess that's a good thing... But JAFF has definitely given me a lot to think about regarding the others!!
Well, I got about halfway through The Conservatory of Hope and just couldn't read any more. Usually I can cope with this author's flaws for the outrageous storylines but not this time. Just couldn't do it. Onward to another book.
Looks like Leslie tried to warn us... Lol!!! I don't care for her books, but I know many other people do... Maybe I just haven't stumbled upon the right one yet!!
Claudine wrote: "Looks like Leslie tried to warn us... Lol!!! I don't care for her books, but I know many other people do... Maybe I just haven't stumbled upon the right one yet!!"All the books I read by this author are crazy. The first one I disliked so much that I can't even tell you but then I realized if I looked at them as B movies, I could like them.
I read them now just to see who dies horribly. Nowhere else will you see so many of your fave characters killed in insane ways!
Here are a couple of authors I read like that... B movies in mind , but my heart and mind just yearn for the Oscar-caliber books... I'm such a "snob." I am trying to get into my current book, "Darcy's Denial." It has such high ratings, I need to get into it!! Now!!!

I got that title through unlimited but didn't read it yet. I look forward to your review.
I would love for them to all be romantic, charming, witty, etc. That would be great! Ardently was terrific, btw.
Did you just read "Ardently?" I could swim in the pools of her JAFF and never want for more... I contacted her as soon as I read it on Amazon and she said she has lots of ideas for more books but they will take time as she works and has small children... Selfishly, I just want her to write!!! What were some of your favorite parts???

I just looked this up on Amazon. The fact that it is a two part series makes me want to wait for the second one to be released. What is it with Col. Fitzwilliam winning Elizabeth first books all of a sudden? I have read two, maybe three recently.

Sounds a lot like Melanie Schertz books.
I was going to wait too but it's a free kindle unlimited read, it's so highly rated and I wanted to try a new author... Honestly, I'm between great reads and I need something great... I may go back to some LINDA Wells because Imperative was great but I'm trying to also finish Altman, who I love , so I'll be ready for the tenth and final book when she finishes it any day now... It's a tough life!!! What are you reading?
Yes, I saw it was free on Kindle Unlimited but I have 10 books from that source waiting to be read already.
Today, I read The Perfect Bride for Mr. Darcy. Such a lovely book. Love the author so no surprise there. Wonderful.I also reread Mr. Darcy and the Secret of Becoming a Gentleman. I really like the Jane in this one but not enough going on towards the last half of the book.
Bluebells in the Mourning was another I reread. This has to be one of my favorite books. Mr and Mrs Bennet are great, Charles grows a backbone, and who can't love the rug with the curled up edge in the library?

I finished Bewitching Mr. Darcy: A Pride and Prejudice Paranormal last night and found it to be a cute story. Another book that could have been exceptional if the author wanted to develop it.
I just finished my 51st book,
The Unthinkable Triangle. There is so much angst and an absolutely amazing story! A MUST read. Will post a review soon.
Debbie wrote: "I just finished my 51st book,

I read Darcy and Elizabeth - Lost in Love: A Pride and Prejudice Short Story last night. It was very sweet.
I just finished the unthinkable triangle a minute ago. It is one of the best books I've ever read.....fantastic -highly recommend it.
Debbie wrote: "Talia...give The Unthinkable Triangle a go! I still love the Colonel & Darcy & Elizabeth."Are you sure? I want to order the paperback based on her previous books but am afraid!
It is full of angst but the best kind. I can't think but that you'll love it. But my heart ached for much of the book. But we do have our HEA...that is always guaranteed in JAFF.
Sheila wrote: "It is full of angst but the best kind. I can't think but that you'll love it. But my heart ached for much of the book. But we do have our HEA...that is always guaranteed in JAFF."Ok, I ordered it. If it wasn't for this group, I wouldn't have my kindle and I love that! I got the paperback so I can read it slowly this weekend. Thank you so much!
Talia... You'll love it... Ladies, "Darcy's Denial" is another great new love triangle and the sequel should be released in January, as per the author. Of course, real life happens, but she has a good portion written already. This book really takes the triangle in a new direction; it's well-written and original!! Lots of angst!!
With that said, I'm glad I read "The Longbourn Will," which is by the same author , after "Darcy's Denial."

I put Darcy's Denial on the kindle. Thank you. I am looking forward to trying it out.
Talia-you're reading the unthinkable triangle this weekend??? What a fantastic story you've chosen to while away your time. Stock up your fridge because when you start this book you won't be able to put it down!! Yes-it's full of angst -but like Sheila said-it's of the sweetest kind. Have a fabulous weekend-read,savour and enjoy every word of this story!!
I am reading P. O. Dixon's Pride and Prejudice Untold: Fifth Anniversary Commemorative EditionBut, mind you, it is for MA. Darcy is much more "worldly" in the first of 3 stories within. I am only in the 4th chapter. I have read 7 of her books.
