Chess definitely is hard core and takes no prisoners. Her world is not pretty - in fact it's very dark and gritty. Chess, herself, is a flawed but strong heroine. As a drug addict, I can't tell you how surprised I am to hear that come out of my mouth but there you have it. She deals with her life the best she can and makes no excuses for who she is. She's a ghost hunter and is fearless. Her weakness is drugs to help numb her dark world. Between Lex and Terrible, there's potential for an interesting love triangle. I look forward to the next book in this series!

Thanks for the rec. :)

Review: This book was not very good, I had a hard time paying attention to it. For a good third of the book there was no discernable plot other than "We've been attacked by aliens." It was like I Am Legend + The Host and it did not work for me at all. I didn't care for the main female character, but when they started talking about Ben I got more interested. I was ok with the ending of this book, but I just didn't like the way they got there.

Waiting for snows to hit here sometime tomorrow which could impact our travel for Thursday. So far saying 4 - 8 inches of heavy, wet snow. Where we are going could get 6 - 10 inches.
Happy Thanksgiving all!

It was 60's yesterday and supposed to be 50's today then drop. Snow supposed to start around 10am tomorrow and go through the night.
They already changed the HS football game between cross town rivals to tonight.

Sometimes we're not either especially when they cancel school at the drop of a hat forgetting that others still have to get to work.
We'll see what happens. Hoping for the best and that travel conditions aren't too bad.

This was another really fast read! There were again some creepy moments, the creepiest to me being Perry seeing the woman with the deer head. Just trying to picture that in my mind gave me the creeps. Karina Halle really knows how to set a good atmosphere! I'm interested to see how Dex and Perry's relationship continues to evolve over time. There's definite chemistry there! I've already read the description for book 3, and it sounds like it's going to be really good!

I might give book 2 a try because the ending wasn't bad. It was just the journey getting there that irritated me. Be Safe! Stay Warm!

Ok so I know I probably should duck for cover after this next comment...I thought this was better than Demonica. I absolutely loved it! A very interesting vamp world. It's unusual to see the humans on top vs the vamps. What really made this book for me though was Nicole. She was awesome! She finds out everything she's ever been taught to believe is wrong and instead of having a breakdown she rolls with the punches and comes out stronger because of it. While Riker was the perfect tortured hero it wasn't over done and it didn't prevent him from "opening his eyes" like so many tortured hero books don't do till the bitter end. I am now officially kicking myself for not reading this sooner and I'll be reading book 2 very very soon!

The dance scene was great!

Happy Thanksgiving!!!
My son is flying up to NH today with his dad to spend Thanksgiving week with his grandparents. Fingers crossed they have safe travels there and back.

Oh, man, that's a good point. Now I'm conflicted lol.

This is the 2nd book in a series, following Love, in English which was Vera's story. The follow up story was mostly a continuation of Vera & Mateo's love story, although told from Mateo's viewpoint. However, I was so glad that the book did revisit a couple of key situations that occurred in the last book because there were many questions left in the last book about "What the heck was Mateo thinking???" The first book was definitely a roller coaster ride, as was this one. However, I'm not sure if I just had more faith in the couple or if the peaks and valleys were just not as "angsty" as the last book, but at least no tears were shed throughout these 290 pages. (Yay me!)
I did enjoy seeing the world through Mateo's perspective and I grew to like him much more than I did in the first book. From Vero's eyes, Mateo's world was more simplified so, although I knew he had a lot of things to juggle, I did not realize all of the challenges that surrounded his juggling act. I found Mateo to be much more compassionate and caring than I originally thought - and for this, I am glad!
After the first crazy story, I really didn't know where they would go with the follow up book but there were definitely quite a bit of new and interesting challenges that lay ahead for the couple. There were times I wanted to bop Vera in the head this time, although I did feel like she (& Mateo) showed some growth in character from the beginning of the first book until the end of this one.

Glad you liked it K! I think I'll read it next week."
Thank you! I think he's pretty adorable, but I'm biased. :)
