JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Kristen - this Friday, 11/21, we roll two times for two spots. No roll on 11/28. Both book's deadline will be Friday (12/5) to post reviews. Let me know if you want me to roll or if you'd rather do it since we do have to roll twice. I'm good either way.

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Hey! I'm just coming back from my MIL's birthday party and see two reviews all ready done for the week. You guys rock! Steph Ann - so glad you liked Darkhouse!!

JoAnne - If you want to do the rolls on Thursday, that sounds good to me. If anything comes up, let me know.

I'm about 1/3 into my book and liking it pretty well. Hope to finish tomorrow.

We have snow. Ugh.

OK, I'll plan on rolling at midnight Central Time if all our reviews are in. If you could link them that would be great.
My reviews won't always be in this early I can tell you that now. It depends on what I have in the hopper to review for the two websites I review for and if anything fits the roll.

We're expecting rain mixed with snow, sleet, ice overnight. Not supposed to amount to much but roads could be very slippery in the morning - saying it won't end until about 10am. I'm not a big fan of snow but would take that anytime over ice/sleet.

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Yay SA!!!! After the 3rd book you HAVE to read them straight through lol.

It's been cold here since Wednesday :(
We even have a slight chance of snow/sleet mix tonight all the way down in Texas. Our windchill will be in the teens overnight :(

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments True, JoAnne - I'd take snow over sleet/ice too!

Jenne - I got sidetracked with book 2 of Rylee Adamson series... Really enjoyed Immune

We ended up with 40's and lots of rain - would have had at least a foot of snow if it had been colder. I'll stick with the rain!

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Week 1: Spot 10 -- Series Book #1

Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows, #1) by Kim Harrison

Book: Dead Witch Walking by Kim Harrison
Completed: 11/17/2014
Book Rating: ☆☆☆.5
Narration Rating: ☆☆☆

Review:
I had a really hard time rating this book. It took me awhile to develop an interest in Rachel and what was happening in her life. I mean, I knew she had a bounty on her head and she was in grave danger unless she figured a way out of it. However, I think until Nick came into the picture (view spoiler), it hadn’t quite grabbed me yet.

I enjoyed Ivy as her friend, partner and roommate. The voice the narrator used for Ivy took some getting used to as she sounded a bit manly. Ivy is still quite mysterious and am wanting to know more about her background and motives.

Jenks, the pixie, was fabulous! He was never short on words and didn’t hesitate to share what he really thought but he was always there to help Rachel – whatever she needed. So the three of these folks, together, seem to make up a really good crew with their own strengths to contribute.

Nick, I need to know more about.. He seems to have some secrets so I absolutely will be reading the next book as I anticipate there will be more shared on if/what his special powers are and what his history is. Hopefully much more will be revealed next book.

So, basically, the first half of the book was like a 2-3 star book while the last half of the book was definitely more of a 4-star read for me. I think, as far as first books in a long series go, that is about as par for the course with me. Although, now that I’m hooked on Rachel Morgan & her crew, I’m very interested to get to the next book in the series – The Good, the Bad, and the Undead – to see where this goes and to get more information on the people I just met!

Steph Ann | 509 comments Kristin, the first book is definitely the weakest in that series. I had the exact same feelings after I finished it and it's now one of my favorite series. It seems to improve with every book. I haven't read the last book yet cuz I don't want it to be over!

LOL! I always have a hard time getting started on new big series - I've learned I need to read at least 3 to truly decide. Experiment in Terror, my all time favorite series, took me 2 to decide if I'd like it or not... I felt good with how The Hollows ended in this first book so I know I'll keep reading!

I certainly understand holding out to read the last one - it really is a bummer when you read the very last book of a series you like so much!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I'm in the minority for sure but the hollows never did it for me. I read the first two and they were silly to me and I couldn't care less about the characters. Now this was also years and years ago, like pre-GR.

Not my cup of tea either.

Read: Love, in English (Love, in English, #1) by Karina Halle by Karina Halle
Finished: 11/18/14
Rating: ★★★★☆
Review:
4.25
First off, I'm not much of a contemporary romance fan but Karina Halle is one of my favorite authors and I'd probably read a nonfiction if she wrote it lol. It took me a minute to get into this one (halfway point to be precise) but it did get very good. Mateo is married and falls in love with the heroine Vera so I wasn't on board at first. The author does redeem the circumstances though by making you understand and even feel sorry for Mateo. So by the end of the book I was cheering the couple along (a must in a romance for me). Vera I fell in love with from jump street. She's very take me as I am and quite venerable at the same time. If you like a good romance with some depth and a beautiful setting you'd probably enjoy this.

Silk Is for Seduction (The Dressmakers, #1) by Loretta Chase

Read: Silk Is for Seduction by Loretta Chase
Date: 11/17/2014
Rating: *****
Review: I like Historical Fiction books with really strong leading ladies! This novel was similiar to Sarah Morgan and I really enjoyed it. The scenes were steamy and the dialogue was humorous. Definately a five star read!

I don't usually look ahead either but sometimes keep a book I need to read in a series aside hoping that the roll would allow me to read one of them. I look for alternates only after the roll.

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Need both for review so I'm so far leaning towards reading

week 2 - book 2 in a series
Upon Your Honor (Heiresses in Love Series, #2) by Marie Lavender Upon Your Honor (Heiresses in Love, Book 2) by Marie Lavender

week 3 - book 8 in a series
The Raider (Highland Guard, #8) by Monica McCarty The Raider(Highland Guard #8) by Monica McCarty

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Hmmm.... Decisions..decisions... :)

For Week #2, I will go with a Book #1 in Series:
Unholy Ghosts (Downside Ghosts, #1) by Stacia Kane

For Week #3-Spot #28, I'll go with a Book #2 in Series:
The Good, the Bad, and the Undead (The Hollows, #2) by Kim Harrison or Love, in Spanish (Love, in English, #2) by Karina Halle (Depending on if I have more time for audio or kindle)
