I'm not gonna lie - I'm pretty excited for our first roll so I know I'll be up for sure this week. Lol! I even set my alarm - 1:01 am Friday morning since I'm in Indiana and we're on ET too. I just get excited to see where we are at on the board and what considerations there are for the book selection that week. I'm such a nerd, I know!

Dex comes from a series by Karina Halle called "Experiment in Terror". Both Jenne and I got sucked into that series last round of SS! It was soooo crazy-cry-when-it's-over-addictive!

Go for it and any other week you want to roll. I'll wait for your go ahead each week.
Book selections are the most fun. Don't know how many weeks last challenge I picked a book and then for whatever reason decided on something different. Don't be surprised if that happens numerous times this round too.

Just went and looked it up - not my genre at all. I love when teams post their reviews and see the variety of books/genres chosen.

I did the same thing! Darkhouse sat on my kindle forever... Then it was just a book that happened to fit the first SS challenge - maybe authors name? Not sure. Anyway, teammate/captain (Paris) sold me on forging ahead on that series. (I think she was also the one to get Jenne hooked too!). Haha! And I'll tell you what she told me. The first book is good/ok - but then book two is wayyyyyy good! And then book three is usually where you get hooked...

I guess I should mention it's a paranormal / romance but some of it can be downright creepy and you think maybe it would be better to read with the lights on. Lol! So, ya, JoAnne, I can definitely see where it wouldn't be everyone's cup of tea for sure!

Nope, not partial to sleep. Plus my son started his overtime on his job which will continue for quite a while and the first two days of this week he wasn't home until 1:15am. Can't sleep until I knew he was home.
I'll plan on rolling every week except this one unless you tell me otherwise. :)

Yep, even though he lived on his own for 4 years at college in St Louis and we live in CT, now that he's home I tend to wait up.

So, so true and he's my only one as well.

As much as we can. He's a good kid, works hard, got a job in his field after college, calls when he needs something (like most kids) but tends to not want to check in all the time which I try to respect but drives hubby nuts. He's family oriented but is a typical young adult for the most part.
Do you have others besides the 18 year old?

Great roll! Lots of choices. I'll choose tomorrow sometime. Will be going with a 1st in the series or a stand alone.

Elizabeth Adler's Last to Know

Santa Montefiore's The Summer House

Both are stand alones and I need to read both for review.
Happy Reading all!

I love this series! I just finished the last one and it was awesome!

I'm hoping to start it today! Just finishing up The Book of Life.

And the last 3-4 are pretty much read without coming up for air! LOL!

So far better than I expected.

I JUST re-read Discovery of Witches, so I'm hoping to finish this series by the end of the year. I wasn't too crazy about the first one the first time I read it, but when I read it again it was actually a lot better :)

I thought that one had a better cover too! LOL! Glad you are liking the story! I just started my book tonight. Hope to finish it tomorrow or Monday.

I just finished The Book of Life today and LOVED it! The first two had so much detail that I got a bit overwhelmed with it at times but it felt like it all came together amazingly well in the last book. I couldn't put it down from like chapter 19 on...

Love when Goodreads doesn't show the actual cover but oh, well. I needed both for a review that I need to submit. This seemed like it would be the quicker read and so far it is. Only started it last night and should have it done sometime later today (since it's already Sunday AM)

Going to bed now. I almost always go to bed after 1. We got home from being out all day around 11pm. By the time I did a few things around the house, checked emails and read a few chapters I realized it was already 2am. Time really does fly.
Good night. Hope you get some rest too!

Review - Predictable more than intriguing. Broken romance talked of throughout with detective Harry and his girlfriend, Mal, who had had a special investigation television show that was successful. He was still in Boston while she broke their engagement and took off for Paris. Harry was a little too soft for me.

That's what I thought but since it's only Sunday if I had to pick another book for the challenge I would have had plenty of time.
Thanks for the confirmation - on to my other challenges!

Man, that was good! I'm kicking myself for not starting this series sooner. I thought it started off slightly slowly, but it really didn't take long at all for it to pick up and reel me in. I'm someone who really only gets creeped out by Stephen King as far as authors go, but I can now add Karina Halle to that list. There were definite creepy moments here, made all the creepier by the fact that I was so engrossed in what was going on that I felt I was there with Perry and Dex, so it was like it was all happening in front of me. I was surprised by the humor in the book. There were many moments that made me smile or even laugh out loud. It's not over the top Stephanie Plum humor, but what I would call "real life" humor, where the characters seem so real that the things they say (even to themselves in the case of Perry's internal dialogue) just make you laugh because you can see something of yourself in what's going on (no idea if I described that in a way that makes sense lol).
Suffice to say, I already have book 2 and will be jumping into it as soon as I can. If I didn't have a pile of books that I need to review first, I'd be reading book 2 right now!

You should wait until we hit the 20's for our roll (could be in a couple of weeks) or it might fit in an alternate category for a roll.

Since it's our first week why don't you do the honors as our captain? I will roll any week you aren't able to.
