Chimes at Midnight (October Daye, #7) by Seanan McGuire

Read: 1/12/15
Rating: 5 stars

Review

It felt so good to dive back into Toby's world. As usual, the book is very fast paced, with Toby finding herself in deeper and deeper trouble, bringing Tybalt and Quentin along for the ride as they try to figure out a way to circumvent her abrupt banishment from the Queen's territory. May and the Luidaeg appear as well, although not as much as I would have liked (it's made up for by almost constant Tybalt, which is never a bad thing lol). We find out about Quentin's parentage and meet a new Librarian character I hope to see again. I'm very much looking forward to the next book and will probably be reading it soon!

Wow this was way better than I expected it to be. Good fun quirkiness and an awesome cast of characters! Fans of Molly Harper would probably enjoy this. Now for a rundown of these awesome characters :)

1. Our main character Astrid is a Prada loving vampire that has all sorts of mojo new vamps don't have. Throw in some parent issues, a smoking hot husband, a fierce and loyal heart and you have one heck of a heroine.
2. Pam, our foul mouth angel that looks like Oprah. She was a total hoot! Since Astrid's name has a$$ in it she has deemed that Astrid will be referred to as a$$crack, a$$whipe, etc!
3. Ethan, the smoking hot vampire prince who's in love with Astrid. He gives as good as he gets with Astrid and their relationship is a lot of fun!
4. Paris Hilton, yes that's her name goes from a timid goth vampire to being a best friend to Aster.
5. The Ken, who just happens to be the best and toughest fairy on the block who looks like Arnold but has no fashion sense.

And there's many more! This book was a riot and it was a super fun read. It ended with a bit of a cliffhanger so I'll be reading book 2 very soon!

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I've been such a slacker this year, I'm never the last one finished lol. Stupid flu...I read the most at night and lately I pass out reading around 9 vs the 11 I usually stay up to. Each night this week my son has had to wake me up because I fell asleep reading on the couch.

message 613: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Having the flu doesn't make you a slacker ~ it takes time to get back to 100%. Just be patient with yourself. You probably need the extra sleep. :)

She has several series that always seem to be set in New England - this one in Vermont.
I believe she also has a few romantic suspense books.

wow - 2 years
hope it's everything you hope it will be
so disappointed when you wait so long and then it falls short in some way

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments I really enjoyed the 2nd book in the series and have been wanting to get to this one for awhile now - not sure why that hasn't happened - but now that the stars are aligned, I'm excited to be able to read it!

This series is one of them that I've committed to finishing this year for FWYS-2015 :D

message 625: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments K you're too the point where it starts ending in evil cliffhangers (think EIT lol) and you might have to read them straight through. I can't wait for the new release Tuesday....they're always 10 star reads :)

message 626: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Oh nooooooo!!!! Not sure if my heart can take it! LOL!

If it's like EIT, I may be waiting in line on Tuesday for the new one too! HAHA!

I can't decide yet if I'm going to read it right away or not. I read Iced (Fever, #6) by Karen Marie Moning practically as soon as it came out, and I've had a really hard time waiting for this next one. I'm not the most patient person in the world though, lol, which probably means I'll be reading it sooner rather than later. :)

For this next week, I'm going to be reading The Winter Long (October Daye, #8) by Seanan McGuire .

message 628: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments I think KMM laughs about making evil cliffhangers and then making us wait for the next book like she does. The wait between Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning and Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning about did me in....that was just wrong lol.

message 629: by Steph Ann (last edited Jan 16, 2015 06:32AM) (new)

Steph Ann | 509 comments I was lucky in that, by the time I read Dreamfever (Fever, #4) by Karen Marie Moning , Shadowfever (Fever, #5) by Karen Marie Moning was already out. I can't even imagine how it must have been to have to wait for Shadowfever!

JoAnne (joannemwct) | 2511 comments Week 10; Spot 83; Read book 3 in a series

Read: I Saw Her Standing There by Marie Force I Saw Her Standing There(Green Mountain #3) by Marie Force

Rating: 4stars

Date: 1/19/15

Review: Marie Force is becoming one of my favorite authors. Loved being back in Vermont - the Green Mountain State - and reuniting with the Abbotts. This is Colton and Lucy's story and boy is it hot. Lots of loving and romance and Colton reminding Lucy to live in the present since he lives in VT and she in New York City and neither one has plans to relocate due to their jobs. Nice happily ever afters on a couple of fronts and epilogue, bonus story and excerpt from book 4, And I Love Her, left me wanting more!

Not sure about the first one, but it looks like smoke to me on the cover of the Fever book

message 635: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Lol! They're addictive. I'm almost 1/2 way down with burned. As soon as I got back from getting the boys to school I got busy with it! I'm already getting a headache from reading it but it's all good :)
It's pretty long but hopefully I'll be done tonight.

As for my books I'm listening to one with smoke on the cover but i already have trail of dead finished and burned will be so soon. I think it looks like smoky wisps coming off of the title. It's hard to tell though....

message 636: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments Didn't the new one just come out today??? LOL!!! (They are addictive!)

BTW - I just finished book 8 of the Rylee Adamson series. I thought that was the last book and that it would all get wrapped up - but nooooooooo, there's a book 9 coming out this year.

Yea, I had to enlarge it to see what was going on but it looked like fire and smoke wisps coming from the title.

message 637: by Jenne (new)

Jenne (jennetheinstigator) | 7439 comments Yes it did, I've waited sooooo long for it....
I though book 8 was the last one too. She was putting them out pretty fast for a minute. I need to get caught up with that one.

Okay - will see what happens. I stay up until my son gets home from work. Last night it was almost 2am and I just couldn't stay up a minute longer so I texted him that I was going to bed.

If you saw the pile of review books I have to read/review you know why I have to be speedy. This one was needed for a review.

I got two envelopes with 9 more books today from one site that I have to log in to their spreadsheet/manager and I know another site mailed 2 to me this weekend. Then I have all the ebooks to do too.

I'm in about 10 challenges on Goodreads so it takes a lot of time to go through them all and link each book I read (if it fits). I could do lots more but never enough time! Maybe when I retire some day. LOL

Most are - I get to choose them for the most part. I like when I can get additional books in series I've started.

I've already read/reviewed 15 books this month.

message 650: by K~Terror (new)

K~Terror (k-terror) | 4537 comments What's your normal amount of reviews in a month?

I've read maybe 30 books this month so far, but that's not normal for me. Stupid challenges. LOL!
