Ohh, I've been meaning to read the WoT stores for a while. I'll join the BR too. I'm good with starting on November 10.

Wasn't that such a great game? (well, maybe. depending on who you were cheering for.) Go Royals!

message 108: by Sarah (last edited Oct 22, 2014 09:08PM) (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Jeremy Guthrie, the Royals pitcher, is from my hometown. He was in my brother's class. Guthrie and my brother were the only two Freshman who made Varsity in highschool that year on the baseball team - in Ashland, OR. And look at him now. My brother, on the other hand, is a bumb that doesn't work and lives in my carport/his car/my back porch and uses the house for bathroom and cooking and things. I used to let him stay in the house but after refusing to get a job or help with cleaning, I had to put him out. Now he seems to have become comfortable outside. You know what he does with all of his spare time - he reads. I hope I never get that bad. I guess there are other things besides reading - like a job, school, a family, etc...

That does not sound enjoyable :/ As much as I would love to sit home and read all day, I also love my job and hanging out with my boyfriend. I wouldn't give up either of those for more reading time. But it is pretty awesome that you grew up in the same town as Guthrie. I like him

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments So many books I want to read!! Soo um, don't forget the TT3 challenge will not end within a month so we could spread out buddy reads to beyond December.. just a thought, haha! I know, who am I kidding? There will be another 100 books to read later!

I might get in on some of these buddy reads but I'm very guided by my moods so we shall see. I will make a list of all the BRs I'm interested in and I'll pop in as the days go.

I would *love* to read Crime & Punishment but I'm a-scared! It just seems intimidating. Mind you, I would love to read War & Peace sometime. I am going to keep C&P heavily on my mind and see if I can't do some mental tricks to encourage myself to take the plunge and join that buddy read!

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Oh geez, I was only on page 1 when I made my last post, LOL! Okay, let me respond to more things as I have discovered them...

Sarah, I want to read Mudbound by Hillary Jordan , and would love to read it in either December or January. I also want to read Big Little Lies by Liane Moriarty but not sure yet if the timing of it works for me. (I have yet to make the list I mentioned in my previous post!)

Beth (Ducky), I am in for Isla and the Happily Ever After (Anna and the French Kiss, #3) by Stephanie Perkins and I might be up for Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz but not for a few months, or unless the mood strikes hot before then.

Whenever you want to do Isla is fine with me. I saw it at my library today and almost grabbed it and now I wish I had, just so I would be able to read it whenever you're ready! I'll go get it tomorrow just to be safe. I know it will be a fast read for me so I'm good with squeezing it in between the other boos I'm committed to.

message 115: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Teresa, I love you. Please read Mudbound with me, it is supposed to be really really good, comes highly recommended, and I have been nominating this book all year long, with no success. People are just missing out. Could we do January though? I am getting pretty overloaded.

We can even wait to do Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe until December so that'll give you time. I just want to finish the book before the year ends!

Funny story, War and Peace has been sitting and staring at me for a long time. I love Russian literature- was one of my specialties in college, but that one has forever just intimidated me.

Sarah, January is perfect for me for Mudbound! I've been wanting to read this for years, just haven't really gotten it up front on the radar. I've seen your nominations for it, but either I voted and it lost or I was not quite in the mood for it. Anyway, you have a lot of books (like...all) listed in your upcoming reads that I want to read eventually so I'll play it by ear and see what mood strikes, what my library has, and how you are progressing with your reading plans before I commit to too many!

Ducky-Beth, if we finish Isla before the 8th, I don't think it will count for our points, will it? I know it's going to be just a one or two day read for me, unless you think you can stretch it further? If you can stretch it so we finish after the 8th, I'm all in for the 1st of the month! I can just read other books at the same time. I'm not sure about Aristotle & Dante yet. If you get a hankering to read it before December, don't let me hold you back. There are just so many books I really want to read before the end of the year.

I should look over books I plan to read in the next couple of months and put out some BR feelers here.

Taryn, I've never read Russian literature but I'm fascinated with it and really want to read some!

message 120: by [deleted user] (new)

Teresa: Dostoyevsky wrote my favorite book. Literally, the book I choose above all other books in the entire universe. (As a fellow reader, you know how hard it is to say that!) The Brothers Karamazov. If we need buddy reads way way in the future, I would love to re-read it with newbies. It is such a special book to me. But be prepared...most Russian lit is super depressing lol

message 121: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Oh I would read that, next year, it is my brother's favorite book too. - my favorite is Les Mis, but I haven't read Dostoyevsky yet. My brother has loved all Dostoyevsky.

Let's start on the 7th and then we'll get all the points for it and then I won't be rushed for my other one starting on the 9th. Does that sound okay to you?

Becky, I would love to do a Longmire series buddy read with you! I see you are on book 2 so I could easily get book 1 out of the way sometime in November. My library actually has almost the entire series! They seem to be missing the last two (Any other Name and Dry Bones, which duh, isn't out yet so that would be why, lol). They even have Spirit of Steamboat, which looks like it might be a novella.

As for the Peter May books, my silly library only has the first one available, grrr. Otherwise, I'd join you for that book. They do have his entire Enzo Files series, though, if you are interested in a BR of that.

I want to read The Brothers Karamzov so badly but my library does not carry it!! GASP, right?? I may have to get to the book store and plunk down some cash for it. edit: I just double checked and they DO have it! It's War & Peace - nope, wrong Russian The Idiot that they don't appear to have. I think I downloaded a free or super cheap Kindle edition but I never read e-books. I just wanted to have it "just because", haha.

I have such a hard time paying for books anymore because I utilize the library so frequently that book costs are insane to me now, haha, and also I'm broke, lol. Then there's the matter of not having much room left for books. But, I will buy a book that I am really dying to read if it's the only way I can get it. And I'm sure I can squeeze one book onto the shelves, hehe!

Beth -- Let's start on the 7th and then we'll get all the points for it and then I won't be rushed for my other one starting on the 9th. Does that sound okay to you?

Sounds good to me! I have a 3 week period to keep my books initially and then I can renew them twice as long as they are not on reserve. So, even if I get it tomorrow I will still have it on the 7th.

Sarah | 3273 comments Teresa - I am glad you like my book choices, I think I have really good taste in books. Hee hee. We probably have similar tastes. I look forward to seeing what you request.

Also do you have access to download ebooks - all the classics are usually free.

You do have good taste! And I often want to read the same books as you but for some reason or another it just doesn't end up happening that often.

I have a few ebooks downloaded but I never read them. I don't like e-readers and I can't stand being tethered to the computer to read. I have to feel the pages and to be able to just flip back and forth should the whimsy strike. And sitting here to read hurts my butt, haha! And makes my feet swell. Plus, I can't get into bed with the computer, LOL!! Unfortunately, it's a desktop!

message 128: by Beth (new)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1567 comments I'm going to list all the books that are on my 12+2 list that aren't in the middle of a series and if anyone wants to do a BR with me for any of them, we can set it up for during the Tower Teams.

Fearless Fourteen (Stephanie Plum #14) by Janet Evanovich Unlovable by Choice Jane Doe Pretty Little Liars (Pretty Little Liars, #1) by Sara Shepard Sloppy Firsts (Jessica Darling, #1) by Megan McCafferty Stolen A Letter to My Captor by Lucy Christopher Flat-Out Love (Flat-Out Love, #1) by Jessica Park

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Okay, I know for sure I'm going to read Walden; or, Life in the Woods by Henry David Thoreau sometime in November for a buddy read in another group if anyone is interested.

Also going to read How to Bake a Perfect Life by Barbara O'Neal for a challenge. I'm thinking mid-November.

Others I plan to read in November:
The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath Ready Player One by Ernest Cline

Is there anyone interested in reading holiday/Christmas type of reads for November/December (moreso December since there are so many BRs set up for November already)? I love to read holiday books at the end of the year so if anyone expresses interest, I could share a few of the titles I plan to read this year.

message 130: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 3273 comments Oooh, I want to read The Bell Jar by Sylvia Plath and Ready Player One by Ernest Cline but my November is booked up.

ilovebakedgoods (Teresa) (ilovebakedgoods) | 226 comments Well, if there is other interest, I am pretty sure if we get a BR going and have actual discussions, you could pop in later when you read them and join in and if one of the people who has already been a part of the discussion joins in with you, you get credit.

Did you get that? LOL! I'm sure a mod could interpret that and tell me if I'm correct or not.
