Date Tasks:

Date 1 - B

B is for Beach

Read a book with a beach on the cover or a book that is set on an island or beach location. Qualification, other than the cover, can include the title, precis, tags or lists. The British Isles, Australia and New Zealand are not eligible islands.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, June 28 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts!

Date 2 - A - Destination Date

A is for August

Read a book with any edition published in August. Include that edition with link in your qualification.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, July 12 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts!

Date 3 - C

C is for Consonant

Read a book with a title that begins with a consonant, disregarding any articles. For example, neither The Understatement of the Year nor The Art of Breathing qualify, but A Wish Upon the Stars and A Quick Bite both do.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, July 19 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s)>

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! Remember links are mandatory, if they are missing you will be asked to add them and REPOST.

Date 4 - H

H is for History

Read a book set at least 50 years ago. Qualification from the GR main book page, précis, tag or list.

You need a book set in 1969 or earlier. If the GR main book page shows a date for the setting, use that - if that shows a date after 1969, the book will not qualify even if the book would otherwise qualify. If the book is tagged historical, that will qualify the book unless the GR main book page date indicates otherwise. Tags, lists and precis indicating specific periods in history, WWII for example, will be allowed as long as the period is over 50 years ago. Tags, lists or precis that include periods less that 50 years ago, i.e. '60s-70s', will not be acceptable.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, July 26 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! Links are mandatory, if they are missing you will be asked to add them and REPOST.

Date 5 - E

E is for Ear

Read a book with an ear on the cover.

We must be able to see a distinct human ear on the cover to qualify. A partial ear will qualify if the is NO DOUBT that it is an ear on the cover. Simply showing an earring will not work unless the ear is distinctly visible as well.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, August 2 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! Links are mandatory, if they are missing you will be asked to add them and REPOST.

Date 6 - L

L is for Limited

Read a book from a series that is complete, one with no new books listed on GR.

Books qualifying for this task must be in a series that does not have any new books showing as planned and/or pending release on GR. If you look on the series page for the book and there are no books listed that have not already been released, then that book will qualify. Actually any book in the series would qualify as long as it meets the MPG and page requirement. This is true even if the author has announced a new book in the series, if it doesn't show on the GR series page, the book still qualifies. A link to the series page must be provided. If the book is listed in multiple series, only one needs to be complete to qualify. Though most novellas in anthologies have been released individually, you may want to read the complete anthology if the individual stories do not meet the page requirement - the anthology will qualify if one of the included stories is in a completed series. Remember though, you will need to read the entire anthology.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, August 9 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! Links are mandatory, if they are missing you will be asked to add them and REPOST.

Date 7 - O

O is for Old

Read a book that was published at least 10 years ago.

You will need a book published prior to August 10, 2009. Provide the publication date you are using, along with a link if it is a different edition than your original link.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, August 16 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! Links are mandatory, if they are missing you will be asked to add them and REPOST.

LAST DATE! Date 8 - R

R is for Roar.

Read a book with an animal on the cover or in the story, shapeshifters count. Qualification from cover, title, précis, tag or list.

To qualify with an animal on the cover, you need to show the qualifying cover. If the cover is stylized, it needs to represent the actual animal. To qualify from the title, précis, tag or list you will need to post the title, quote the precis, or provide a link to the shelf/tag or list. To qualify it needs to include: animal, shifter, dog, cat, horse or other animal name. Tags such as vet/veterinarian, game warden or zookeeper will not qualify.

Remember books must be 90 pages and MPG Romance!!

You have until Friday, August 23 @ Midnight US EST to post your completion(s).

Please ensure that your completion post conforms to message #2 of your team thread. If you complete more than one book for the date task, be sure to include that information in your completion post. Remember no discussion in your completion posts! we will not be correcting any completion posts, but will be checking the threads. If they are missing elements and are not corrected/reposted, they will not count. Teammates, help each other out! Double check for qualifiers, MPG romance, page count and that all info is in all completion posts! Q&A:

Q: MM romances are ok for this?
A: Yes, just has to be romance.

Q: When do I have to choose the book(s) I want to read? When do I announce them?
A: You don't have to announce or post which book you select as you do in the PtP, but you have to post when you complete the book with all the required information. It might be helpful to post when you find a book that works - your teammates might be looking for a book too. Or someone could use your book as a second book, especially if your review makes it sound good!

But you can select your book and start reading as soon as the date task is announced. Books must completed and posted by the end of the date to count though - there is not carryover into the next date.

Q: Just wondering if it’s ok to participate in this challenge if I’m in Australia I.e. in a different time zone!
A: Absolutely! The times for announcing and ending the dates will be based on US EST, but you are more than welcome to play! And you wouldn't be the only international player - of the top of my head I know we have Australia, Italy and England represented already. 😊

Q: What do you mean by tagged?
A: Tagged = shelved. So if anyone has shelved a book as 'alpha' or any of the others listed, it can be used for that task.

Q: Would it be alright to read an anthology/ a short story collection up to 90+ pages, so to read all the stories up to 90 pages and then finish that short story?
A: If you are using the anthology to qualify for the page count you would need to finish the entire book. Not just 90 pages and the novella that works for the theme. You can check to see if the individual novella is be listed on GR (not in an anthology) and see if it qualifies on it's own for the page count.

Q: As long as book is tagged romance on first page it qualifies???? or does it have to be historical romance, paranormal romance etc
A: Just has to have romance - on its own or combined with contemporary, historical or whatever.

Q: Can we use books we're reading to fulfill other challenges for this one?
A: Absolutely! Multitasking is the best!

Q: Can a group of us sign up as a team?
A: No, teams will be randomly assigned. That way you get to meet and play with new people. 😊

Q: What do you mean by “in precís?”
A: The précis is the book blurb on GR or back cover, so the qualifying description would need to be included there.

Q: Does romance have to be an MPG or can it be on a list of shelves?
A: It has to be MPG romance, but it can be historical romance, contemporary romance, romantic suspense, paranormal romance, mm romance - it just has to have romance.

Q: For the tasks that require tagging can it be from any of the pages of shelves?
A: Yes.

Q: What does MPG mean?
A: Main Page Genre

On the main page of the book on the right hand side there is a section that says "Genres". Anything listed under that section is counted as an MPG.

Q: So...each letter has 4 choices.....does only one get picked per week? Or are we given a choice?
A: One of the four will be randomly selected each week.

Q: What are the rules if the book is so bad you can’t finish it?
A: That is hard for this challenge, since you can read multiple books. But I will accept DNFs if you read to the minimum page count of this challenge (90 p.) AND 70% of the book. You must also state that the book is a DNF and explain why in your completion, include the page number you finished on as well.

How to insert a link into a post:

To insert a simple link to a shelf there are a couple of options:

* Copy the https address in the address bar of the page where the book is found - highlight the web-address, copy the address, and paste into your post
or
* Find a link to the shelf that you want (eg on my lists of shelves to use for the themes), right click with your mouse, select 'Copy Link Location' and then paste into your post

If you want to make it pretty and have a specific name:

* Type <*a href="insert the link that you copied as per above">name the location<*/a> but without the asterisks.

Here's how you find if a book you want to read fits a particular shelf:

1. Go to GR book page for the book you want to read.

2. Scroll down the page just a bit and click on "see top shelves..." (link under "Genres"). This will take you to the Top Shelves

3. With that (top shelves) page open in your browser, click: CTRL-F (Windows users) or Command-F (Mac users) to bring up your FIND option

4. Type the EXACT shelf name in the FIND search box.

5. With the shelf name in your FIND search box, on the book's 'top shelves' page, click NEXT as you scroll through each page. Sometimes you find it and sometimes you don't. You still have to scroll through the pages, but this way, the computer does the searching for you.

TIP: Try to look for shelves that you think could fit the book because although some books are not shelved properly, most of the shelves have some logic to it. For example, you will find Dark Lover in the Paranormal Romance, Vampires, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Adult, Supernatural, Erotica, Contemporary and tons of others (there are 44 pages of shelves for this book) but don't try to look for Dark Lover in the inspirational romance shelf. It's doubtful that you find it. :)

If a member fails to complete two consecutive dates, they are eliminated. 😕

Players are allowed to read multiple books to help make up for any missing players.

Last time the overnight fell on week 2 and encompassed Christmas and New Year's. I don't have any inside info, but the only major US holiday that falls within the challenge period is the 4th of July, so I'm guessing that's when it will be.

Just a suggestion to make things easier - you can also check if a book is shelved in a specific shelf by searching the shelf/users through the URL.

For example if you want to check if He's So Fine is tagged as a sports romance, you copy the book ID from the book page (i.e.: the last part of the book's URL, in this case: 19291271-he-s-so-fine) and the shelf name and place them on the below link (without the space and asterisks):

https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/users/ *Book_ID*?shelf=*shelf-name*

The link for this example would be:

https://www.goodreads.com/shelf/users/19291271-he-s-so-fine?shelf=sports romance

Sometimes it takes a while, but it works.

A simpler way to do that is to click into the number of users for any shelf for the particular book you are hoping to find on a shelf - not the shelf name but the link of the actual # of users. Then, in the URL of that open page, change the name of the shelf to the shelf you are looking for. Just remember spelling needs to be exact. For instance, I want to know if Joy Ride is tagged inspirational (with those abs and the chest, it should be!!!).

From the book's main page, I click on the link for users for romance which takes me to the page of actual users who tagged the book romance and looks like this (minus the spaces)
https: // www.goodreads.com / shelf/users / 30640850-joy-ride?shelf=romance

To see if it is tagged inspirational I will delete 'romance' in the URL and type in 'inspirational': https: // www.goodreads.com / shelf/users / 30640850-joy-ride?shelf=inspirational

Sadly, it's not :-(

Questions about Date Tasks:
"

This is my first time playing, so I have a question about the Scavenger Hunt Rose. Although each week we'll only be looking for books that meet ONE randomly picked task for that week's letter, the SHR will be awarded for a book that meets all FOUR of the tasks, yes? Thank you!

Yes, you have to post your completion in your team thread and then post in this thread, claiming that book for the Scavenger Hunt Rose. Each book can only be claimed once.

Well, semi-capable anyway! 😛 Kat, hopefully it won't take long for the post-surgery brain fog to dissipate and you'll be back to normal soon!

Just a reminder for everyone - please be sure to post your team names here once you've picked them rather than sending a PM - that way I'll have access to the info when Kat isn't available and can get your team threads updated. Thanks!

MountainKat | 31553 comments Thanks everyone, I’m home and doing ok. Slow going today, but that’s to be expected.

I will update the team name tomorrow if Karen doesn’t beat me to it.

Hazel (x1f4d6hx1f4d6) | 2963 comments B for Beginning - what do you mean it needs to be included in the GR listing?

MountainKat | 31553 comments Hazel wrote: "B for Beginning - what do you mean it needs to be included in the GR listing?"

This means it must show in the GR main book page that it is the first in a a series or trilogy - where the series shows in parenthesis. So this works:
Best Laid Plans - #1 in series

But these don't:
Hail Mary - not part of a series
Flirt - not first in a series

For this task, I will accept anything in a series #1 or lower. So you can read the first book even if there is a prequel novella.

Lauren Castleberry | 398 comments Is the B going to be a choice of books or just one topic?? Can the book count for multiple categories?
For example -
B is for Beginning & B is for Big Apple for Bared to You
Or
B is for Beginning & B is for Body Art for Boarded by Love
