Jane I'm bingeing on WWII books - just finished Wallis in Love by Andrew Morton (which is much less sensational than his Di books & much more researched) and am now working on Marching Orders: the Untold Story of WWII, by Bruce Lee (no, not that one), about actions taken by the Allies after the decryption of the Japanese Purple diplomatic code, referred to as Magic, & the Enigma messages from Germany.

Read that one a couple of years ago.

Finished The Art of Racing in the Rain. A great but emotional read that should come with a tissue warning.

Karen M | 1436 comments I haven't been here in a while so here's what I've been reading:

ARC The Girl the Sea Gave Back good solid fantasy sort of Vikingish
A Reliable Wife very good and I highly recommend
Read it with my BC and hated the characters & loved the book! Lots of discussion!
Shutter Island Crazy thriller that was a great read!
Sing, Unburied, Sing Did the audio version and it was just so well done. Really enjoyed it.
The Woman in Cabin 10 Did not enjoy. Was disappointed.

Finished this weekend:

Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick — not a genre I usually read, but good...and different — and Tuck Everlasting by Natalie Babbitt. It’s been so long since I read this, I didn’t remember much about it. Worth re-reading!

Megan (megfick) | 4605 comments Currently reading The Crow Trap by Ann Cleeves. First 100 pages were a little slow, but now it’s picking up and quickly! A nice suspenseful murder mystery to break up all the cozies I’ve been devouring.

Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets — I’m trying to reread the first four before end of the year to fit challenges. 😀

message 234: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Listened to City of Bones and read an ARC of Red Metal. Now I'm listening to The Great Alone and reading an ARC of Chanel's Riviera: Glamour, Decadence and Survival in Peace and War, 1930-1944 which is non-fiction.

message 240: by Victoria (new)

Victoria Prescott (victoria_prescott) | 56 comments I've been reading the Peninsular War Saga by Lynn Bryant which as the title suggests is a series following Arthur Wellesley's (he's not Wellington yet) campaign in Portugal and Spain in the Napoleonic era, focusing on the officers and men of a fictional regiment. Very well researched. Some of the books could do with some editing, but I'll keep reading as new ones are published.

People who like Georgette Heyer's The Spanish Bride will probably enjoy them. Harry and Juana do appear as minor characters in the later books.

message 242: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Listened to the second book City of Ashes and am now listening to The Mermaid and Mrs. Hancock and reading at long last Where'd You Go, Bernadette.

message 246: by Karen M (new)

Karen M | 1436 comments Where'd You Go, Bernadette made for a good BC discussion. Now I'm reading an ARC of Westering Women.
