They do the novels based on the Cushing Doctor and other odds and ends.
Been toying with ordering some stuff, but all the notices on the site about how brexit is messing with their shipping and having to do math on the currency conversion has been intimidating.
Rick wrote: "Totally. The character has really soured me on rewatching those seasons she’s in. Which is sad, but true. I also feel like it was longer than two and half years. But, am I remembering that correctly, she was on just two and half seasons?"
It seems longer when we're stuck with a companion we don't really like, doesn't it? I think that's about the right time frame - plus she bridged the change between 11 & 12.
As for sour feelings, I really, really hope Rose does not make a reappearance in this next season or under RTD's leadership. Gah.

I'd actually be interested in seeing Rose meet 13.
But, that's mostly to see if fandom would freak out.

Guess I'll be the test case.

Blake's 7 is a bit more dystopian than I'd thought. Decent story, but a bit too grim to binge.
Champions is one of a bunch of shows that came out when the Avengers was a big money maker.
A trio of agents gain vaguely defined super powers from a mysterious source and fight crime.
Likable cast, but they are no Steed and Mrs Peel.
Fun, but I can see why it only lasted a season.

The Cushing Doctor Who movies: Lots of fun. Love Cushing's Doctor and think I prefer movie Susan to TV Susan.
The movie console room is pretty rubbish, aside from the chair the Doctor made sure to install.
Shame they never did a third, as I'd have loved to have seen the Cushing version of 'The Chase".

That would have been awesome as well.
I just want a huge series of him and movie Susan having adventures.

That's why they're so charming though. Dr. Who is a tinkerer, someone who puts things together to see if he can and because he can, the aesthetics are all background noise. I like that his TARDIS looks like it's full of things he randomly dragged out of the house and stuck in control room because he felt it needed to be there.
I personally like the second movie better, but the characters are interesting and relationships work for the characters in both movies. Not to mention our favorite future grandfather, Bernard Cribbins, shows up in a Who related story for the first time.
The movies are played more for laughs in some ways and played far less seriously than the TV serials, but then, I cannot see movie audiences willingly sitting through Invasion of Earth as it was played out over several episodes in a movie theatre. Definitely not in the 60s at least. These days, after LOTR, Braveheart, Titanic, among others, they might have the patience for it ...

Question is, would BBC be able to put out that kind of money and would their subscribers actually go for it? The way I understand it, you pay a "tax" on each TV you own and this "tax"? is what fuels BBC's TV programming each month/year.
That's why, when producers go into to pitch their programs, they have to know how many episodes there will be up front, and what the story will about before going in. This is why most BBC programs are only about 6 episodes long on average. Doctor Who is an outlier with 13, though not this year, I guess. Or, if you have something truly popular, you might get 4 or 5 stories of about 1-1/2 long or so, like Midsomer Murders or Poirot and Mrs. Marple.
Thus the two Peter Cushing movies weren't BBC produced, and, since Terry Nation owned the rights to the Daleks, he could negotiate with the production company to make feature films out two of his most popular stories at the time. Also, Dalekmania was all the rage.

I know, I know, I’m just wool gathering aloud. It’s so odd, this whole BBC thing with the franchise. They can’t make profit off the franchise, only license off merchandising aspects. It’s so antithetical from a purely capitalist perspective. Instead of maximizing the potential of the franchise, they’re limited to an archaic formula of production. It’s so frustrating.

I don't mind a cluttered console room, just don't like that Cushing because it doesn't actually have a console
and aside from the comfy chair is kind of ugly. A couple of the pieces are good, but as a whole it doesn't work for me.
I do agree the second movie is better and Bernard is a better companion than Roy Castle's Ian.
I don't find the movies any sillier than the TV show.
Roy Castle was apparently known more as a comedian, so they let him do some bits, but otherwise, it has a good 60's Who vibe.
Cushing is a great Doctor and I actually prefer movie Susan.
Really wish they'd gotten to do a couple more.
Might have been tricky, as they were running out of Dalek stories and only had the rights to stuff Nation had written, so we might have gotten Keys of Marinus and Chase movie.

Been avoiding them, as they put out a ton of stuff and I have limited shelf space...until I saw the collection of Tardis console models.
They have them for nearly all the Doctors and they look so pretty.

Nice

I'd watch that.
I'd watch that.

I could swear I've seen this one before, but have no memory of anything.
Kind of a weird feeling.
Different guy doing K-9's voice. Don't like it.
Dialogue is great and I love the wolf weeds.

I think that's most people's reaction the story.

Nice fluffy romp with loads of clever dialogue and a fun idea.
Just the thing after a rough week at work.
Be fun to if it come back in a novel, comic or BF.
See how the medieval planet and the giant blobs learn to get along.

😹😹😹

But the movie? Gorgeous cinematography.
Wonderfully nuanced performances (the ONLY performance I think was better in either of the earlier films was Patrick Stewart as Gurney Halleck, Josh Brolin was good, but he’s no Patrick Stewart).
Solid adaptation (while I don’t agree with all the choices where it diverted from the book, I do think it worked in adapting it from a literary medium to a visual medium, these kinds of things have to happen in translating adaptations).
Spectacular musical score.
Overall a stunning visual cinematic feast. I can see why it got a seven minute standing ovation at the Venice Film Festival at the film’s world premiere. Definitely at least a 9 out of 10.
Wow. You had quite movie experience, Rick!
I'm looking forward to seeing Dune next weekend, but everything I've heard is very promising. 🙂

I'm probably going to catch it on streaming.
Too crazy at work for me to get to the theater often.

That and I found a Jules Verne novel I don't already own.
Good start to the week.

Which one?
My sci-fi bookclub is going to read From the Earth to the Moon in December.

I’ve got orders in for Evil of the Daleks and the new edition of The Web of Fear with the lost episode animated.

Good book.
Not that there are many bad Verne books.
He's one of my faves.

I pre-ordered Evil and may pre-order Galaxy 4.

It's weird as it's been recommended to me, but seems to have no release date.
Like amazon is just messing with me.

Let's see...B+W animation...color animation and...reconstruction...?
Choices, choices.
Maybe I'll alternate, to really mess with my wife.

Watched Episode 1 in B+W, but neither my wife or I liked it much. Felt very flat.
So, for 2-6 we went with color animation. Much better.
Really great story. I'm pretty sure I've read the Target novel, but had little memory of the story.
Nicely creepy and grey feeling to it all.
Love the couple background easter eggs and Victoria ( never my favorite companion) has a nice arc leading up to her final scene.
Also like that it takes almost no effort to imagine that Tom Baker's 'Seeds of Doom' is a sequel and the seaweed creature is a Krynoid.

The explanation of the seaweed monster is just vague enough, that my head cannon went 'It's a Kyrnoid...!" and then no pesky facts popped up to ruin my theory.
Also, can't believe I forgot to mention...very first sonic screwdriver!

Yep! Hello sonic! 😸"
I remember it showing up in the Dominators, and for some reason thought that was the first time, so it was a big surprise.

Frasier Hines is on my wish list of people I'd love to meet at a con.
Really surprised how much I liked this story.
It was one that never seemed to get much attention.

The combination of Clara becoming ultra magical girl and being used to explore if the Doctor/companion relationship went wrong and unhealthy just kind of ruined her for me.
I like a couple of her early appearances, but toward the end, she's unlikable and it becomes hard to watch.
And then, Moffat rewarded all her bad behavior...!
