Great pick, Coralie! I wouldn't have guessed there'd be over 2000 books on the shelf. I'm sure I'll find many more I'd like to read than I'll have time for.
I could have this totally wrong, but I think Karen was already the shelf picker in Oct. 2008 (Mystery shelf). Correct me if I'm mistaken.
The rules don't state that a shelf picker can't be repeated, only that the name has to come from the people who posted reviews for the current shelf's books. That is if I'm understanding the rules correctly.
No, the shelf picker can't be repeated. But we have two Karens in the group. The Karen who was the shelf picker in Oct. 2008 is the group creator. The Karen who posted reviews of biographies in October has been a group member since Jan. 2010 and is December's Shelf Picker! Congrats, Karen! (Karen of the bookworm? Karen from the UK? Just throwing some ideas out there. :)

Cangratulations, Karen! Have fun picking the shelf!

everyone posts in the Review folder, that is also where I take the books read from, and add them to our bookshelf :0)Plus they are really fun to read :op
OH and you never know what the bookshelf could be used for, we have already used it in one challenge, and there is the REALLY BIG CHALLENGE coming up :0pFelt like a good time to plug it *laughing*
Oh Luann I wonder who's going to have read the most books for the You Choose Challenge and be involved in the picking of Tasks in the Really Big Challenge?????
Congrats Karen of the bookworm! Can't wait to see what shelf is next! Better get to reading my book for this month!
Congratulation Karen of the bookworm (you sound like royalty with the name lol) can't wait to see what your going to pick, waiting with bated breath

LOL- you're funny, Mel! Plug away!
Oh, we'll do an official announcement in mid Dec ;)
To be fair, the official rules did not specify not to pick previous shelf picker however I've amended it to note if people could be considerate and try to pick someone who has not had a turn at shelf picking so as many members as possible can have a go :)
Oh yea, and while we're here...
In the new year, we would like to change the avatar of the group to reflect the shelf of the month so we'll be giving the shelf picker an option to choose an avatar for the month / shelf.

@ KarenWhat a great idea!! I think it will be great to see the different avatars!
P.S. Love your new profile pic! So sweet!

I've been putting it in every message I send about how to pick the Shelf Picker. Oops! Although I do think it is only fair, since we've got so many active members who haven't yet had a turn to pick a shelf - even Slayermel!
Lol - my day will come I'm always trying to think a head. What would I pick? I'm noticing it's not as easy to come to a decision as I thought. My hats off to all you previous shelf pickers who were able to come to a decision.
So how do we keep the double names straight? If I had been chosen as shelf picker, I would have looked over the list of previous shelves and seen Karen had been picked. I wouldn't have picked Karen, who is now Karen of the bookworm, because I wouldn't have realized it was a different Karen. I know I'm probably way over thinking this but I'd hate to have someone be overlooked.
If you have a question, click on the person's name on the Shelf List posting. I link each person's name to their profile page. I also list their "alternate" name if they've needed one - such as "Jennifer of the sunset" and "Susan of the cat." As soon as Karen picks her shelf of the month, she will be added to the listing as "Karen of the bookworm." :)ETA: Karen (of the bookworm!) did you notice my SUBTLE nudge there??? :)
As soon as Karen picks... :)
Yes Luann I noticed your 'subtle' nudge, now I'm in two minds should I tell you which shelf I've picked or make you wait.....Oh okay I'll tell you, the December shelf is contemporary-fiction.

Great choice, Karen of the Bookworm! I have so many of those books on my TBR list that I don't know where to begin. But I'm going to enjoy my holiday reading for sure!!
That is definitely a category that I can find a "few" books on my TBR to read... now to decide what to start with!
ok, new here - remind me how many pages in we can go for our choices? Love the category though so I shouldn't have any problem finding one.
Debbie wrote: "ok, new here - remind me how many pages in we can go for our choices? I think you are welcome to read ANY book on the list- or more than one if you choose. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong...
Debbie is exactly correct. There is no page number restriction. The only restriction is that it has to be on the list that the link takes you to.
What a great choice "Karen of the bookworm". It should help us get some books off our TBR list before we get new ones for the holidays. C'mon, you KNOW we are all asking for new books.I love all these names, we seem to have a real kingdom going here. Can I be "Lynne of the E"? Just hate to be left out.
Great shelf choice! There's so much to choose from! (And I just realized I totally forgot to put up a review for what I read this month. I'll get to it this weekend, for the sake of readerly propriety.)

LOL. Very cool, Karen of the bookworm. Nice choice!!
Lahni wrote: "Will we have the new shelf picker and shelf determined before the holidays get here?"Karen of the bookworm plans to pick the Shelf Picker by the end of the week. If they pick the shelf quickly, we should know well before the holidays.
Congrats, Lahni! I'm quite excited as I now have an excuse to sneak in that one or two book purchase in between my Christmas shopping flurry :D
Wow, This is kind of fun. Since we are beginning a new year that will change and develop over time I thought we could read from the shelf:coming-of-age

I hope everyone can find something fun to read as they recoup from the holidays!!
This is a really fun idea for a shelf. You responded quickly! You had your shelf pick ready, didn't you?

Good Pick! Can't help hinting that this will go really well with January challenges for ROAR *LOL*

Good pick, Lahni, I already found a number of books that I own that are on this shelf. Which is especially nice since I am doing a "no new books" January.
