hey guys! I just looked at the list of people who had posted reviews and based on reviews and other random selection, Lauren is the picker for next month!
Congrats Lauren. Enjoy, but don't take toooooo long. Picking new books is my favorite thing each month!
Alright, I am choosing World-LitI see there are a variety of different kinds of books on that shelf so hopefully something for everyone!
Great pick, Lauren!Of course, this month I just read a book from the first page of that shelf that had been on my TBR for like 3 years!
I found my pick already! The book I'm supposed to be reading for the Chain Gang The Blood of Flowers is there! Woohoo!
Of course, I could also read the 2nd book in the Millenium Trilogy but I don't feel like it. :)
nice!! my chain gang one is also on the list, so i'll probably do it, but I have a list of like 6 others to get, all of which are countries I haven't hit on my travels yetFYI - I liked the second book in the millenium trilogy better than the first, not as much financial speak...and if you would like similar - Henning Mankell's first book is on the list (Faceless Killers) which was decent, as well as one by jo nesbo
Okay here are some I will be choosing from depending on what I decide on for other challenges:Like Water for Chocolate
The Girl Who Played with Fire
The Inheritance of Loss
Reading Lolita in Tehran
A Fine Balance
The Twentieth Wife
Great list, Lauren. I've been meaning to read 4 of those books. :)I could also read La sombra del viento (The Shadow of the Wind), which I've been meaning to read for a while.
I have other books that fit the theme but are not in that shelf: The Birth of Venus (Italy), In the Name of Salome (Cuba & DR) and Breadfruit: A Novel (Tahiti).
as each month's shelf has been announced, i've been making a shelf on my bookshelf which is the same, where I can put books...so that will help me in the future...I like this world lit shelf
I'm really liking the world lit shelf. I have found a ton that I've been meeaning to read, some that I want to read again and some that look really interesting. Geart Choice!! June is going to be a great month for reading.
A ton of the books I already have queued up for a challenge starting June 1 in another group can be found on this shelf, so I'm very psyched up. Excellent shelf pick!
Thanks you guys! I thought it was very fitting for the shelf....plus it's cute and that never hurts :)
Oh man, Lynne. I am SOOOOOO gagging right now.
ALthough, I agree that the avitar is really cute.

Thanks Lauren - I was a little surprised because I thought that I couldn't be the shelf-picker again for a while since I did it back in 2009. I will start contemplating my choice and would ask the leaders to rule on repeating pickers - OK?
I say go for it, Arlene! Pick your shelf. There originally wasn't a rule about repeat shelf pickers. It was while Karen (Kazza) was gone that we (well, just me) started saying no repeats - without really realizing it wasn't part of the official rules. So the rule was amended slightly, but still doesn't say someone can't be repeated. Here's the rule as posted on the Pick-a-Shelf - How to... thread:The member to choose the next shelf will be determined by the previous month's shelf-picker. Their choice of will be limited to those members who have read & posted their reviews in the monthly book discussion. Please be considerate in your choice and if possible choose a member who has not been chosen previously so as many people can have a turn on the shelf picking.
You can also read conversation about it here in this thread (starting around message 319).
2009 was two years ago...I say go for it. Besides...that means I could get a turn again sometime in the future!
As a new person to this group (and one who has not yet posted a review), I think you earned it. The requirement to post a review to be eligible to be in the running as a possible picker limits the field of members from which to choose.
I just looked back at the number of people posting reviews for April, May and thus far in June. For April there were 21 reviewers; for May, there were 18; and thus far in June, there are 9. And that is out of 715 members!
Now to get busy and post my own completed World Lit books!

I think 2 years is long enough as well...when I did it last month - I pulled out everyone who had done it in the previous year, other than that, everyone else I put on the list
I definitely think you earned it Arlene...after all, you've been active in this group for more than 2 years! :)I have a question about this rule:
Their choice of will be limited to those members who have read & posted their reviews in the monthly book discussion.
Which month is this referring to? Any month in the monthly book discussion? Or just the past month? (I assume the current month doesn't apply because it's not done yet.)
When I was shelf picker I was told to pick from the last completed months. For example, since we are in June, I would have picked from May for July's shelf.
So, now that we all agree Arlene is a "go"...get going Arlene! The time between the announcement of the shelf picker and when they actually pick the shelf is TORTURE for me! LOL :)
