Shelf Picker

I was guessing... before I was picked I always had my pick ready...just in case.
Yikes! Thanks for the reminder, LynnB. I haven't had as much time here lately, and the month got away from me. I'll get the process started.
Ohh, that's what I get for asking a question and then going to take a nap! I will be back with my selection soon. I'll see if I can find something that really stretches most of us in our book choice....hmmmm.....
After looking at a bunch of shelves, I've picked:Science:
http://www.goodreads.com/shelf/show/s...
There are a lot of popular science books on it, some science history and biography, and I see that some sci-fi and dystopian books have made the shelf. Also some YA -- like The Evolution of Calpurnia Tate, which I read last fall and really enjoyed -- and Harry Potter made it, too. I think that everyone can find something in the first 5 or 6 pages of the shelf that will appeal to them -- or at least, here's hoping! I have several of these titles on my TBR list, so I hope to get a few of them read.
I'm hoping that this is a category that people will like, but will s-t-r-e-t-c-h their reading boundaries.
I'm glad to see everyone didn't run away at the choice of shelf! I'm sort of hoping that people will pick science-related books to stretch their reading zone, but there are enough other books that have gotten on the shelf that should keep everyone with something to pick even if it's not truly science. Sometimes how people shelve books leaves me pretty puzzled ;)
Found several that interest me, now just to find the books. I agree that some times people shelve their books differently than I would - but gives us more variety.
found several that interested me and the library had all but one of them readily available (and that one has been out for ages - The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks and has a huge wait list
Wow, Lynn! I think you managed to pick a category that has nothing on my TBR at all. Trying to choose will be fun!
Wow! This will be an interesting one for sure.I have a few books on me "to-read" shelf on this shelf. One is even waiting for me on my shelf at home!
Just a quick note to let everyone know that we've updated the 'How to' section to include a timeframe when the next shelf picker to be chosen & possibly notified and / or announced (ie. the 20th day of the month - give or take 1-2 days).
Well, I think I scared everyone off by stretching the boundaries of their reading by too much, but this next month we'll see what happens when CANDISS chooses the shelf!! Can't wait to see what she chooses!(I went a few days early on this since February is such a short month.)
congrats Candiss - can't wait to see!LynnB - I think you did a great job - I found soem really interesting books - I have 2 in progress right now that i'm hoping to finish by the end of the month - 1 on the shelf and 1 not (but it was in the same general area of the library as the science books)
Congrats, Candiss! I always look forward to the new shelf. And I too found several books on the science shelf. I even feel a bit smarter now!
What fun! I managed to narrow my list of potential shelves down to a dozen, then finally to a half-dozen contenders, and in the end I decided to go with a nice companion/contrast to last month's Science shelf. The shelf of the month for March is: Mythology!
There is a lot of variety available on this shelf. There are surveys of myth (both general and culture-specific), historical, anthropological, sociological, philosophical, and psychological works, novels with strong mythic qualities (lots of Historical Fiction, Fantasy and Young Adult, especially), retellings of myths, holy works of many cultures and time periods, poetry, folklore, fairy tales, classics of ancient literature and drama, graphic novels... It's a shelf ripe with options that also has a strong unifying theme.
I hope you all enjoy it and find lots of great books to read!
(LynnB - I thought Science was a great shelf pick!)
Candiss - have I mentioned how much I love you!! lol!! when I was browsing the shelves and hoping wistfully that I might get to pick mythology was on my short list!
Great pick, Candiss! Checking the shelf, I see some interesting choices that I'm thinking of reading.
Congrats, Candiss! Fun shelf! Because of the Percy Jackson books, several of my students have started reading any and all mythology books they can get their hands on. Maybe this will be the month I'll finally get around to finishing the last two in the Percy Jackson series.
I was thinking the same thing Luann. I still have to read the last two books of the Percy Jackson series and this shelf may make it easy to do.
Ahhhhhh, my favorite time of each month (besides payday)! The time I get to browse the new shelf.I have to say that I LOVED the science books I read and also feel like I learned a lot. I think it is interesting to have Mythology (in some ways anti-science) right after the Science shelf.
Candiss, really, you don't have to justify your choice :) I'm sure it will be just as wonderful as all the others have been! And now, off to the shelf.
An old favourite, great choice Candiss.(And I loved Science Lynne it really stretched me and I actually loved what I read and have added many more to my TBR)
I'm still working on my Science read, which is also on the Mythology shelf, so if I don't get it done till next month, I'll still be on the right shelf! It's The God Delusion
Once again our shelf picker has done a fantastic job of choosing a graphic for the month. I really like this new addition to our group.
It's already time to pick the next shelf picker. I can't believe how fast the month's gone! The shelf picker for April 2011 is POLLYANNA. Have fun choosing!

Actually I didn't. I just had a little time today to look at them so I looked fast! I even was leaning toward something else but this caught my eye.
