Jim (jimliedeka) I read that last night as well as the linked article. I was amused by the comments on the linked article. They were all talking like they hadn't read the article and were sure Roswell was aliens. I guess the Mirage Men did a good job that day.

David Elkin | 508 comments They always do. Hope you have had a great summer Jim. I am convinced something happened there, and it may very well been a big fat cover-up operation. I do agree why go with Flying Disks is a legit question.

message 256: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimliedeka) Here's my thing. The events around Roswell were weird but largely forgotten until the 90s. Today, nearly everyone involved is dead. We'll never know for sure what happened so your opinion is as good as mine. That said, there's enough compelling evidence to think it was probably part of a disinformation scenario.

A lot of people are wedded to the extraterrestrial hypothesis and won't really consider anything else. I continue to remind myself it's a waste of time to argue. Like people with certain political beliefs, facts don't enter into it.

Totally agree it's a waste of time debating with people who accept rumors and theories as if indisputable facts, whether Roswell or anything else.

David Elkin | 508 comments A very thoughtful post from a UFO blog. As both James and Jim state above, looking for proof is tough. However, this may be more possible to research:

Yeah, it's always really tough to know what's disinfo and what's not re UFOs. Some authors of course may not be knowingly promoting disinfo, but have been deceived by their "sources".
Then again, if you google any UFO author and type in "fraud" you'll come up with a lot of paranoid articles too...

The mystery continues, mate!

James Morcan | 11378 comments From Coast to Coast:

In the first half, author and researcher, Donald Zygutis joined Richard
Syrett to discuss how Carl Sagan, when he was at Stanford University,
produced a controversial paper funded by a NASA research grant that
concluded ancient alien intervention may have sparked human
civilization. Zygutis believes that when NASA saw the paper that Sagan
produced in 1964, they suppressed and hid it away. He says that the
paper speculates that extraterrestrials may have visited Earth thousands
of times in the ancient history, and may have even "terraformed" the
planet to make it habitable by humans. Zygutis added that Sagan was
present at the very first scientific meeting discussing the search for
ETs by radio signals, which later evolved into the Search For
Extraterrestrial Intelligence (SETI.)

Sagan contracted a rare form of cancer when he was 60 years old and died
two years later. Zygutis believes in the possibility that Sagan was
targeted on orders from someone in the Pentagon. He said that this could
have been accomplished with a "minuscule amount" of a radioactive
substance. Soon after Sagan’s death, NASA announced a project to achieve
interstellar travel in 100 years. Since they had previously claimed that
this was impossible, Zygutis thinks that this would have made Sagan
revive his ancient alien ideas in public since it would have admitted
the possibility that other civilizations could have done the same thing.
He concluded that had he lived longer, Sagan "would have found the
smoking gun" for definitive evidence of historical visits by non-humans.

Jon Roland | 22 comments Of course, if aliens visited us in ages past, that calls for an explanation of why they are not today. Dis they all get wiped out by some cosmic calamity?

I offer an explanation at http://obitur-dictum.blogspot.com/201...

While I have never experienced one (which makes me feel neglected), many of my friends have, people who, if they testified against an accused murderer, I would probably vote to convict. At some point we have to ask whether we need any more evidence.

Jim (jimliedeka) Another possibility is suggested in the trilogy by Liu Cixin. The second book, The Dark Forest, says that advanced civilizations might wipe out anyone who could be a competitor. Therefore, it's best to remain hidden. I think about that whenever anyone suggests trying to broadcast something to possible aliens.

Tony Sunderland | 328 comments Graham Hancock now thinks that altered forms of reality are now the probable cause for these encounters.
With regards to Roswell, a book came out arguing that the incident was orchestrated by Stalin to scare the American people. The so called aliens were disabled and disfigured children and the craft was from stolen German 'Horton' technology...The book; Area 51 by Annie Jacobson.

As For UFOs in general, they always appear to be 'of their time'. That is a 1950s sighting looks like something out of a 1950s sci fi movie etc...

I don't agree with Jacobson on her Area 51 book.

I like to think that "time" impacts our perceptions. In the middle ages, they saw Angels and Demons, in the Bronze Age, they saw gods. Could all be the same

I agree Tracey, I think he is very brave in his new perception on things came to be. Virtual reality and altered states of being are fast becoming the new deities in a world mediated by technology.

Hi David, Jacobson's book is very disturbing but at least she presents a unique take on the incident.

If ETs exist, I really hope they're not like Wall Street bigwigs!!!

message 280: by James, Group Founder (new) - rated it 5 stars

James Morcan | 11378 comments I tend to lean toward what Tracey proposed above: a lot of ETs could be interdimensional beings rather than extraterrestrial.

However I also think we humans try to (over)simplify things to just "one thing". It's either this or it's that. Never this AND that (multiple explanations). But in all likelihood, in my opinion, ETs and UFO sightings have numerous explanations: some are the result of archetypes/myths of a certain era (like David mentioned with medieval angel/demon sightings), other sightings could be physical, interdimensional, man-made etc, etc.

David Elkin | 508 comments From coast to coast- Pre-Roswell incident

DATESunday - January 15, 2017
HOSTGeorge Knapp
GUESTSPaul Blake Smith,
Researcher and author Paul Blake Smith joined George Knapp in the first half to discuss a pre-Roswell 1941 incident, in which ETs allegedly crash-landed their circular spaceship on a farm just outside of Cape Giradeau, Missouri. Smith reported on a possible cover-up perpetrated by the US government, with evidence from long concealed documents. Smith’s narrative began with the story of the Baptist Reverend William Huffman, who was called out to the site of an apparent aircraft crash in the late night hours of April 12, 1941. Huffman recalled wreckage, a fire, and two small bodies of what would now be referred to as alien "greys" laying in the grass. Another nearby was still breathing, but died as Huffman was getting his Bible out to say prayers over them.
According to Smith’s research, the Army arrived to take charge and told all witnesses that "this did not happen" and to never talk about the incident. All "souvenirs" and film were confiscated. A photographer on the scene managed to smuggle out a photo which he later gave to the Huffman family. Smith says that the photo was taken from them years later by a man who was from Army intelligence. A fireman who was at the scene later claimed that his phone tapped and he was pursued for years by agents. Smith also spoke about the famous crash of an aircraft carrying actress Carole Lombard in 1942. According to Smith, there were multiple witnesses to a UFO sighting in the area of the crash and that a rancher commented that the aircraft sounded "badly crippled" just before it crashed into a mountain, killing all on board. Smith spoke of tenuous but interesting connections between the crash and the UFO incident the year before in Cape Giradeau. Rob called in from Salt Lake City to give compelling information on another possible UFO crash in South Dakota sometime in the 1950s.

"According to the information DeLonge received, there are multiple races of beings visiting Earth, some for thousands of years or more, and they don't necessarily get along with each other. Levenda compared the contact between these beings and humans as akin to a Cargo Cult, in which religions are created around what is perceived as a supernatural event. In regards to concerns that government insiders could be feeding disinformation to DeLonge, Levenda noted that DeLonge respectfully came to them, rather than the insiders seeking him out."

James Morcan | 11378 comments Sky People by Ardy Sixkiller Clarke

“From the beginning, American Indians have told stories about their ancestors who came from the stars. There is now a growing realization that those ancient star civilizations have not forgotten this world. Through the diligent work of the author, Dr. Clarke, and her hundreds of interviews with Indian people throughout the Americas, we can all learn of remarkable, present-day close encounters with Star People.”

—Richard O’Connor, MD, executive director, The Jesse A. Marcel Library

“Commendations are due to Dr. Ardy Sixkiller Clarke. She shares her unique understanding of American Indian cultures and traditions. And now, as a story-teller, she honors thousands of participants and their families by collecting and reporting their extraterrestrial encounters. The UFO community—and all of humanity—is blessed by her heritage, training and professional effort to combine Science and Spirit.”

—R. Leo Sprinkle, PhD, professor emeritus, University of Wyoming

“It is refreshing to see an honest effort to tap UFO reports from an older society not nearly so influenced by movies, TV, hoaxers, etc. as ours. I am not surprised that Ardy, with considerable effort, was able to dig out reports from Mayans. I hope she will continue her work and share it with those of us serious about such matters.”

—Stanton T. Friedman, MSc., author of Flying Saucers and Science

“Dr. Ardy Sixkiller Clarke has for more than 20 years done a tremendous amount of field work and has carefully and with spiritual sensitivity collected these stories from the original witnesses. This book is an impressive documentation of the scope and depth of the UFO enigma.”

—Hakan Blomqvist, Cofounder and Chairman, Archives for UFO Research (AFU), Sweden

Dr. Ardy Sixkiller Clarke, author of Encounters With Star People, vowed as a teenager to follow in the footsteps of two 19th-century explorers, John L. Stephens and Frederick Catherwood, who brought the ancient Maya cities to the world’s attention. Dr. Clarke set out on a seven-year adventure (from 2003 through 2010) through Belize, Honduras, Guatemala, and Mexico, collecting stories of encounters, sky gods, giants, little people, and aliens among the indigenous people. She drove more than 12,000 miles, visiting 89 archaeological sites (Stephens and Catherwood visited only 44) and conducting nearly 100 individual interviews.

The result is an enthralling series of unique, original, true stories of encounters with space travelers, giants, little people, and UFOs. Sky People may very well change the way you perceive and experience the world.

Well, But if there is another species on another planet and they can reach the earth and return to their planet, do not you think they will come in larger groups and more times to discover, and so will be known to all humans,

( but this did not happen)

message 291: by [deleted user] (new)

Access to the Earth from a distant planet requires a very sophisticated vehicle for the arrival of such a vehicle to Earth (especially as it will land in a public place because it is not connected to one of the Earth's inhabitants), This will be a news story that is being published by all the media and all human beings because it is extraordinary

James Morcan | 11378 comments Apollo Astronaut Shares ET Theory:

Apollo astronaut Alan Bean, the fourth man ever to walk on the moon, has a rather intriguing argument for why he believes aliens have not visited the Earth. In an interview with an Australian news outlet, the astronaut-turned-artist suggested "civilizations that are more advanced are more altruistic and friendly." Therefore, he theorized, if ETs discovered the Earth, they would be compelled to reveal themselves and help the human race with their advanced technology.

Tony Sunderland | 328 comments If an intervention was going to occur, I think it would have been in the aftermath of the horror that was the second World War. All roads lead back to 1945- 1947....Dead Sea Scrolls, Nag Hammadi texts, Roswell , the start of the cold war and the beginnings of a viable counter culture.

James Morcan | 11378 comments 1945-1947...bingo!
Operation Paperclip was also formed then...
And the CIA...
and, and, and!

Almost seems as if all roads lead back to the Nazis and whatever they knew or uncovered in all their "exotic research" before and during WW2...

And then maybe 1945-1947 represents the West processing all the goodies they gained from the Nazis.

Pete daPixie To give my opinion on this threads heading...U.F.O.'s/E.T.'s Are Aliens Visiting Earth? I'm afraid it leaves me cold. My answer is an emphatic NO! Alien...i.e. life in the universe, certainly, but UFOing across the universe to visit us (or is that U.S.) is just laughable to me and without any credible evidence. Alien bases, little green men, abductions, contacts, crop circles.....it's all as far fetched as dope from Manali.
