Hey, Char and Tim (or whoever): Upon reading more about this book and the author, who I've never heard of before, I'm pretty intrigued. Have you read any of his short story collections? Are they as good as this novel? I'm more keen on horror short stories than novels, but The Fisherman is definitely in my "to be bought" pile.
Oh. Now reading Son of the Endless Night by John Farris. Good read so far, but rather lacking in "horror"....

Also slowly making my way through I Wonder What Human Flesh Tastes Like by Justin Isis.

The title story in Mr. Gaunt and Other Uneasy Encounters is a great update on Weird Tales weirdness. "On Skua Island," which reminded me a bit of Laird Barron's work, but which I found a bit more approachable, is one of the more viscerally frightening stories I've read in the new century. Probably because I expected more of same, the other stories didn't work for me as well. Not that they were bad, just of a different tone, intent and texture.
That didn't stop me from purchasing The Wide, Carnivorous Sky and Other Monstrous Geographies because I read at least three of the stories in it in "Best of" volumes: The title story, "City of the Dog" and "The Revel" are absolutely terrific short stories. It's in Mount TBR and I do intend to get to it as soon as possible.
I also second The Fisherman and I think Langan's House of Windows is one of the more criminally underrated horror novels of the last 10-12 years.

I haven't read his collections, but I have read one or two of his short tales in anthologies and it/they was/were good. But his novels are much better.

Loved The Fisherman and I am also a big fan of The Wide, Carnivorous Sky and Other Monstrous Geographies, here's my review
Wide, Carnivorous Sky

I remember reading this book "back in the day". It really creeped me out. I was maybe 13 or 14 at the time.

The Conjuring frightened me silly (at least the first one), this sounds interesting!

It was a classic "back in the day" book.
