Yep, just got the same message on amazon.com - it must be a new, universal policy. My last review was on 26 Feb, so perhaps it kicked in on 1 March? Oh well, their bad luck.

That's the problem with behemoths like Amazon Marianne you end up serving them when it should be the other way around.

I just had a thought - maybe it was because I was going to review a book I didn't purchase there. But no, I get the same message for a book I bought there in January.

This time I had a look at the guidelines, which say:

Eligibility

To contribute to Customer features (for example, Customer Reviews, Customer Answers, Idea Lists) or to follow other contributors, you must have spent at least $50 on Amazon.com using a valid credit or debit card in the past 12 months. Promotional discounts don't qualify towards the $50 minimum.

Well, that's me out! My spending with them is rather sporadic, so I'll just write them off as far as reviews go.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Indeed, Andrea, no chance of me spending $50 or 40 pounds at either Amazon, so their loss.
But also sad for the authors whose work we want to support :(

Wow, can't believe you have to pay to review. Facebook still free and a bigger platform

I can sort of understand Amazon's reasoning - I mostly get free kindle books and the occasional 0.99 to 2.99 books. I certainly don't spend $40 (or whatever currency).

Still, there is always Goodreads :)
