Brooke - One Woman's Brief Book Reviews (onewomansbbr) | 751 comments I have just put up my review for The Binding by Bridget Collins The Binding by Bridget Collins - it was 3.5 stars for me. I went in really thinking it was a fantasy book (as it is classified as such)...I would honestly say it is a love story in my opinion.

Thirty Thousand Bottles of Wine and a Pig Called Helga by Todd Alexander by Todd Alexander

If it is possible to be effervescently agricultural, I think this book is it. A lot of fun;

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments The Strange Case of the Moderate Extremists is a novella by Alexander McCall Smith in the Detective Varg series (whom we first met in Varg In Love), a little dose of Swedish blanc to keep us going until the full length The Department of Sensitive Crimes is published.
As a crime novel, it's very tongue-in-cheek; as a helping of gentle philosophy, it's delightful

PattyMacDotComma | 3297 comments Finally, I've read a Bosch mystery, The Black Echo, the first of the popular series by Michael Connelly. In 1992, LA cops fought crime with payphones and state-of-the-art pagers and faxes. And guns. Always guns. Looks like I'm in for a long ride!

Daughter of the Razor An Australian True Crime Story by Maria Tinschert
I have just read SOME of this book and will not finish it.
Here is my review: Its my third for the year in this group.

How could I pay to read this gruesome account??? Well, only to help the victim - as the story was shocking.
Due to this, I could NOT finishing reading after the first few chapters. It beats me how people can be cruel, even more so to children, the elderly or to animals. These sadists do not possess a heart. They are satan's spawn, and the fact of this is in the evidence.
As someone who has suffered abuse I can fully understand the scars that remain. Yes, they never go away but live hidden inside where a remembrance can be triggered at any time. The victim must make a difficult choice that effects the rest of their life, - to be bitter about it or to be a better person.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Thanks to Simon & Schuster Australia for The Woman From Saint Germain by Aussie author, J.R. Lonie. I think I liked the German detective more than the American author, whom I sometimes wanted to give a good shake. I quite liked the bombshell/twist but I would have appreciated a map.

Kerri_M | 590 comments Just finished Zigzag Street by Nick Earls.

Nick Earls (A.A) is an author I have been vaguely meaning to read for years now, and finally did with this one, which turned out to be one of his early ones. Easy, quick read with some laugh out loud moments
Zigzag Street by Nick Earls ★★★☆

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Scandinavian Noir in Twelve Chapters , a free short story by Alexander McCall Smith is another little somewhat tongue-in-cheek dose of Ulf Varg for fans of the Swedish detective.

Marianne (cloggiedownunder) | 9973 comments Huh! I used to post on Amazon.com, Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.au, but then suddenly I couldn't post on AU any more as I had spent no money with them (my account is with US).
Today, I got a message when I tried to post my latest review to UK, saying I wasn't eligible to post reviews (even though I'm a top 500 reviewer with them!). The eligibility includes spending at least 40 pounds in the last 12 months.
I guess soon the US site will do the same and then Amazon will have a lot less reviews...

How silly, considering you/we are reviewing books for Goodreads which is owned by Amazon, and people are presumably encouraged to buy books because of reviews on Goodreads or Amazon. It's not as if we're reviewing a car we haven't driven or a hand lotion we've never used!
