Ian (iansreads) I like seeing A Secret History. I'll probably borrow that idea.

Oh I hope this also applies to The Secret Commonwealth & that it's out next year!

message 103: by Jenn (new)

Jenn Saxena | 9 comments I read The Wise Man's Fear by Patrick Rothfuss for this prompt. It's book 2 of the Kingkiller Chronicle. I read book 1, The Name of the Wind, for the 2018 challenge prompt #24) A book with a weather element in the title. They are both long books but worth the read I think if you like the epic fantasy genre. (My reading year is Nov 1 - Oct 31)

Juniper (jooniperd) Sarah wrote: "Is A Separate Peace college? Or just a boarding school? It’s been so long since I read it..."

this one features high school-aged boys at boarding school.

message 105: by Chrissy (new)

Chrissy | 387 comments If anyone is interested in graphic novels, Giant Days, Vol. 1 and it’s sequels are quite good.

message 106: by Juniper (new)

Juniper (jooniperd) a few i can think of that work for this prompt:

Straight Man, by richard russo
Wonder Boys, by michael chabon
Admission, or The Devil and Webster, by jean hanff korelitz
Dear Committee Members, by julie schumacher

I think these count (but do I want to read them???):

The Sun Also Rises by Ernest Hemingway..."

I'm not quite sure how The Sun Also Rises can be said to be set on a campus...

Shari | 2 comments Make Your Home Among Strangers https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/2...

message 110: by KateNZ (new)

KateNZ Quite a lot of ‘Normal People’, by Sally Rooney, is set in and around Trinity College, Dublin - great book.

message 111: by Idit (new)

Idit | 8 comments Making History by Stephen Fry is a great read and situated in 2 universities

Just today a friend posted a recommendation of this book. So now it is going to be the book I read for this prompt as well.

Ellie (patchworkbunny) | 1757 comments Chrissy wrote: "If anyone is interested in graphic novels, Giant Days, Vol. 1 and it’s sequels are quite good."

I didn't realise this was about university, I have a few of the comics from a Humble Bundle and I know Non Pratt has done a novel version this year (which I will probably read for this because I think she writes young people realistically).

message 115: by Johanna (new)

Johanna Ellwood (jpellwood) | 236 comments I just finished reading The Heir and the Spare. It takes place at Oxford, so would totally fit this prompt. A must-read for fans of the royal family!

message 116: by StefanieFrei (new)

StefanieFrei | 83 comments Rachael wrote: "Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell

Looking for Alaska by John Green"

As I remember it, Looking for Alaska is school, boarding school, prior to university/college

message 117: by LJ (new)

LJ I've just started reading Camino Island for the 2018 heist prompt and some of it is set at Princeton University. I'm only a couple of chapters in so not sure how much of the story takes place at the university, but as it's an integral part of the plot I'm assuming it will feature quite a bit!

message 118: by Jess (new)

Jess Penhallow | 427 comments Ooh I just remembered another book that I read ages ago but really enjoyed Starter for Ten. It's especially good if you've ever watched University Challenge.

Ahhhh, thank you!! I'm reading the first one for a different prompt, so will probably use one of the sequels for this prompt :D

Most of the book is actually set in Florida, so I wouldn't personally count it, but it depends on whether you're okay with it being a presence in the story rather than the main setting.

message 121: by T. (new)

T. Hampton | 134 comments If anyone's still looking for a university setting, I just found this:

message 122: by Kate (new)

Kate | 29 comments Does anyone know if We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves counts? I've just bought it and main character seems to be in university but I don't know if it's technically set on campus

message 123: by Sarah (new)

Sarah The Secret History is the book I am for sure going to read!

message 124: by Tracy (new)

Tracy (tracyisreading) | 608 comments Kate wrote: "Does anyone know if We Are All Completely Beside Ourselves counts? I've just bought it and main character seems to be in university but I don't know if it's technically set on campus"

I wish I could remember the answer to this because it was a 5 star read for me and I so want you to read it. Find somewhere to put it!!!

message 125: by Dessie (new)

Dessie (avalsis) | 17 comments Christine wrote: "Ooh, I'm going to do Equal Rites, and I know there are multiple other Discworld books with large portions set at Unseen University!"

Thanks for the idea! I think I might do Unseen Academicals.

message 126: by Vanessa (new)

Vanessa | 5 comments The Rules of Attraction takes place on a fictional east coast college campus and is told from the point of view of multiple narrators (good for prompt 19). I was thinking I'm about due for a re-read, though my first choice on the list is to read The Devil and Webster as it's a new read.

message 127: by Liz (new)

Liz Fothergill | 48 comments The Human Stain by Phillip Roth takes place at a college.

message 128: by Liz (new)

Liz Fothergill | 48 comments The Secret History by Donna Tarty takes place at a small college in Vermont. If you loved Goldfinch, you’ll enjoy it.

message 129: by Erin (new)

Erin (erinlovescats) | 25 comments The Art of Fielding would work for this. It’s soooo good!!!

message 130: by Lyndsay (new)

Lyndsay (bookedupwithlyndsay) I will most likely read The Dreamers for this one.

message 131: by April (new)

April | 3 comments 'The Boys in the Boat' would work for this and was one of the better books I read this year!

message 132: by Darlene (new)

Darlene | 35 comments This one will work:

When Dimple Met Rishi by Sandhya Menon

message 133: by Darlene (new)

Darlene | 35 comments Rachael wrote: "Looking for Alaska by John Green"

This one is high school, not college/university.

message 134: by Darlene (new)

Darlene | 35 comments If anyone is looking for a mystery, The Liar's Girl by Catherine Ryan Howard works for this prompt.

Any other mysteries that would work?

message 135: by Julie (new)

Julie | 13 comments The First Time She Drowned takes place mainly on a college campus.

message 136: by Lisa (new)

Lisa | 26 comments I decided on "Normal People" by Sally Rooney

message 137: by Tabitha (new)

Tabitha (ellornaslibrary) I'm going with Binti for this task.

message 138: by Libby (new)

Libby | 20 comments KateNZ wrote: "Quite a lot of ‘Normal People’, by Sally Rooney, is set in and around Trinity College, Dublin - great book."

I loved Normal People! Definitely seconding that recommendation.

The Idiot by Elif Batuman is another one of my favourite college-based books, set in the first year at Harvard.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments Darlene wrote: "If anyone is looking for a mystery, The Liar's Girl by Catherine Ryan Howard works for this prompt.

Gaudy Night was mentioned earlier in the thread, and is always a great choice for a mystery. (It might work even better if you read Strong Poison first, but I *think* it also works as a stand alone.)

message 140: by Miranda (new)

Miranda (mirandom) | 37 comments I highly recommend The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker. I read an ARC of The Dreamers a few months ago and it was my favorite book I read in 2018. I believe it's being published in January.

message 141: by Louise (new)

Louise | 8 comments I just finished Three Daughters of Eve by Elif Shafak, much of which is set at Oxford University. I thought it was beautifully written and very thought-provoking.

I added this for consideration. Thanks for the recommendation!

message 143: by Christina (new)

Christina (christina_owl) | 12 comments Abroad by Liz Jacobs is a coming-of-age LGBTQ romance about college students in London. I've already read it so I'll be picking something else, but if you're looking for something a little different. It's actually a duology and both books are from multiple POVs as well, so, you're welcome.

message 144: by Lauren (new)

Lauren (liveandlauren) Frat Girl is a funny YA option!

message 145: by Sarah (new)

Sarah | 21 comments I go to the University of Wisconsin, so I wanted a book about or set at my school. I picked Rads: The 1970 Bombing of the Army Math Research Center at the University of Wisconsin and Its Aftermath by Tom Bates. There's also the Pulitzer-prize winning They Marched Into Sunlight: War And Peace, Vietnam And America, October 1967 which I've already read but is very good. It moved back and forth between the UW-Madison campus protests and amidst the fighting in Vietnam.

message 146: by Lesley (new)

Lesley (hoosierstamper) | 2 comments Paying for the Party https://www.goodreads.com/book/show/1... is a non fiction book about college life at Indiana University. It’s a research project.

message 147: by Dee_Lyn (new)

Dee_Lyn (dee_l) | 2 comments My Oxford Year is a great one for this heading. Chick lit with a plot twist I wasn’t expecting.

message 148: by Di (new)

Di choice of two, they are both little books so I might just do both

Dead Poets Society
Normal People

message 149: by Sean (new)

Sean (sbowden) | 10 comments I think the His Dark Materials trilogy would could since Oxford is one of the primary settings but what about The Book of Dust? I haven't read that yet and not sure if it qualifies.

message 150: by Jessica (last edited Dec 27, 2018 06:48AM) (new)

Jessica Beaver | 3 comments Has anyone read An Anonymous Girl? Does it fit this prompt? I've tried not to read too many reviews because I want to avoid spoilers. I have seen, though, the implication on the ones that I have read say that the research study in this book is conducted at a university. I'm hoping to use this book for both this prompt and the ATY prompt for published in 2019.

Thanks!!!!
