I did read this and I wouldn't say the setting is a college campus. Someone is affiliated with a university but the setting is really just NYC.

Soph ♡ | 130 comments Could Dead Poets Society be counted? I bought the book for this prompt but saw earlier in this thread that it doesn't really fit the prompt.

No, they are highschool students, and it mostly takes place outside of the school.

Thank you, Stephanie! I appreciate it.

Cee (simplystrange) Easy (Contours of the Heart, #1) by Tammara Webber Easywas one of my favorite reads this year.

You can also check this tag: https://www.goodreads.com/genres/college

message 158: by Verena (new)

Verena (verb1) This year, I read The Secret History, which I really liked, and I read similar books ("dark academia", psychological dramas with university settings). I've already read The Lessons, so in 2019, I might read:

- Black Chalk
- The Rules of Attraction

(Huh, turns out that a lot of other books resembling TSH aren't actually set at university but rather at boarding schools or post-uni.)

Other books set at university that are on my TBR list:

- Dr. Edith Vane and the Hares of Crawley Hall
- Changing Places
- Dear Committee Members
- Maurice
- The Idiot
- The Sparsholt Affair
- Gut Symmetries (not sure in how far this is set on campus though)
- Paul Takes the Form of a Mortal Girl (dito)

message 160: by Rebecca (new)

Rebecca (whymermaids) (whymermaids) | 3 comments I Am Charlotte Simmons by Tom Wolfe would work for this (I've been meaning to reread it for ages, this might be my excuse if I put off The Secret History another year...).

message 161: by Hope (new)

Hope | 1 comments I'm reading (listening to) the Hazards of Time Travel by Joyce Carol Oates. It is set on a college campus. It could also count as a book that I would personally like to see become a movie. It's so good .

Janet Cripe (jcripe) | 39 comments Anabell wrote: "Does Dead Poets Society count for this one?"
I don't think this will work because it's set at a boarding school (academy) not a college or university. I'm thinking about reading Possession.

message 163: by Crumb (new)

Crumb | 395 comments Anna wrote: "Bringing Down the House: The Inside Story of Six M.I.T. Students Who Took Vegas for Millions was another great nonfiction read and a lot of it takes place on the MIT campus."

This was good!

message 164: by Sharon (new)

Sharon (sharonc83) | 18 comments What about The Marriage Plot by Jeffrey Eugenides?

message 165: by Darci (new)

Darci Day | 164 comments Chrissy wrote: "If anyone is interested in graphic novels, Giant Days, Vol. 1 and it’s sequels are quite good."

Thank you! I was totally stumped for this prompt. This is literally the first book on my TBR list and I kept skimming right over it, lol.

message 166: by Jennifer (last edited Jan 02, 2019 04:59PM) (new)

Jennifer (dreamsdelirious) | 4 comments Do you think Lower Ed: How For-Profit Colleges Deepen Inequality in America would count? Or would it not because most for-profit colleges are online?

message 167: by Rachel (new)

Rachel | 109 comments Death at the President's Lodging would work here, for people who like mystery/crime.

message 168: by Heather (new)

Heather Segil | 4 comments Sara wrote: "This one has me stumped at the moment. Why isn't there a Harry Potter book where he goes to college?? :D

Let's hear your ideas for books set on campus!"

Sara, have you read The Magicians?? It's Harry Potter goes to grad school, and it's FAB! ;)

Knight (theknightgarden) | 25 comments Vicious Takes place in a university and could knock off some other prompts on the challenge.

message 170: by Brittany (last edited Jan 03, 2019 03:17PM) (new)

Brittany Morrison | 145 comments I listened to the audiobook American Panda and loved it. It's a YA novel about a Taiwanese American girl who is the daughter of immigrants and is attending MIT. It deals a lot with the family dynamics of the main character whose parents are very traditional and how her beliefs/wants don't line up. I really enjoyed it and Emily Woo Zeller was a great narrator.

message 171: by Baroness Ekat (new)

Baroness Ekat (baronessekat) | 117 comments I just finished The Shakespeare Requirement by Julie Schumacher The Shakespeare Requirement it was fun. Though if you have not read the one this is the follow up to ( Dear Committee Members by Julie Schumacher Dear Committee Members) I would recommend that one first. It was hysterical.

message 172: by Deb (new)

Deb (crande) | 6 comments I've recently read them, so I'm going to find something else, but I wholeheartedly endorse Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell and Goodbye, Vitamin by Rachel Khong.

I'll probably go with The Magicians or a reread of Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

message 173: by Haley (new)

Haley Zaremba (zarembamf) | 14 comments The Secret History is a great one for this. I read it for a different prompt last year and it's now one of my favorite books ever.

message 174: by Devin (new)

Devin Bramblett I plan to read Moo, by Jane Smiley.

Ramona Mead (ramonamead) | 24 comments I'm almost finished with The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker and will use it for this category. The entire novel takes place in a college town, most of it on the actual campus.

The Dreamers by Karen Thompson Walker

Maartje De Groot | 20 comments Currently reading Fangirl that w,ould fit this prompt. I'll use it a hobby though.

message 178: by Madge (new)

Madge (madge_the_bibliomaniac) | 10 comments If We Were Villains by M.L. Rio was fantastic! I might actually re-read it for this one. There are a few small parts that aren't on campus, but the majority of the book is on campus, from what I remember.

message 180: by Silvia (new)

Silvia | 1 comments I loved My Oxford Year by Julia Whelan, it's also being turned into a movie!

Courtney Blocher | 64 comments I'm going with Rush by Kristan Higgins.

message 183: by Angelina (new)

Angelina I’m reading River Road which is set in a college. It’s by Carol Goodman and I think her books may all be set in educational places as I’ve also read The Lake of Dead Languages which was in a girls school.

message 189: by Roxane (last edited Jan 13, 2019 07:46PM) (new)

Roxane Rodrigue | 5 comments For Quebec or french language readers: the Malphas series by Patrick Sénécal

Pour les québécois ou les gens qui lisent en français, la série Malphas de Patrick Sénécal se passe dans une petite ville du Québec et surtout sur le campus d'un cégep.

Le cas des casiers carnassiers

message 190: by Kimberly (new)

Kimberly | 21 comments I'm going to bend this one and read "The Vanishing Stair" when it comes out - it's a boarding school, which is close enough for me.

Raquel (Silver Valkyrie Reads) | 896 comments Jennifer wrote: "Do you think Lower Ed: How For-Profit Colleges Deepen Inequality in America would count? Or would it not because most for-profit colleges are online?"

It seems to me that it fits the spirit of the prompt, even if a lot of it does end up being about online colleges.

message 192: by Erica (new)

Erica Hinders | 1 comments When Dimple Met Rishi was one of my favorite reads last year! It's a YA and takes place at a summer camp on a college campus in San Francisco. I don't remember the name of the university. Dimple and Rishi have finished high school and are participating in a camp before beginning college that fall.

message 193: by Danielle (new)

Danielle | 6 comments Dr. Mütter's Marvels: A True Tale of Intrigue and Innovation at the Dawn of Modern Medicine. One of the great doctors that started Jefferson University in Philadelphia and the man behind the infamous Mutter Museum. I learned a lot reading this boo.

message 195: by Katie (new)

Katie | 9 comments I just finished Oryx and Crake so I checked off this prompt. With this read, also checked off:

A book with a plant in the title or cover (cover in this case)

A book featuring an extinct or imaginary creature.

A cli-fi book

☕️Hélène⚜️ (theintrovertmoondreader) Ok! So if I read onyx and crake I can’t check off multiple views? Good! I’ll read it!
