My weekend is just starting (I woke up a little less than an hour ago) - but since I already know I have AN ENTIRE DAY OFF, it is fantastic. :D

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Sonia finished the classes spreadsheet today, so I did some more playing on the Books Tab and entered in some books for points!

We were able to spell two of the unforgivable curses and I plugged a couple books into Potions! We're in third place now, so we're off to an awesome start!

The green columns are all automatic and will respond as I enter new books into tasks, so we can all see what books have and have not been used.

Since there are a lot of different directions to go in, I'm going to try and prompt us in certain directions so we can focus on one class at a time and try to knock them out.

We have a pretty solid start on Care of Magical Creatures, so let's start there! If anyone has any book they're reading that could fill some of these spots - give a shout!

Right now we have a winged horse with blue/gold feathers and a lion's mane:

Firebrand (Green Rider, #6) by Kristen Britain Tempests and Slaughter (The Numair Chronicles, #1) by Tamora Pierce Magic Strikes (Kate Daniels, #3) by Ilona Andrews

It lives in the mountains: The Mountain Between Us
It drinks Unicorn Blood: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone
It's a XXXXX Classified Creature by the MOM: Darken the Stars

We need two more books with something on the cover that could be a physical descriptor and we need a book that describes something in the text that it uses (it could use branches to make a nest, bones for decoration, etc).

Laura | 5524 comments FYI, for planning purposes I'll be reading

Shadow of Night (All Souls Trilogy, #2) by Deborah Harkness - BR - Divination?
First Lord's Fury (Codex Alera, #6) by Jim Butcher - BR
The Glittering Court (The Glittering Court, #1) by Richelle Mead - BR
Curse of the Spellmans (The Spellmans, #2) by Lisa Lutz - History of Magic? Or do something with those eyes on the cover?
Heartless by Marissa Meyer - Heart on cover, like example for Mending Charm

There will be more, of course, but these are the Buddy Reads I've got and some things that struck me as being useful for classes.

Additionally I should have some buddy reads for some more In Death books, once I get a little higher in the series.

Laura | 5524 comments Vicky, I don't know if you caught it, but the series title on my book A Daring Sacrifice (An Uncertain Choice, #2) by Jody Hedlund is An Uncertain Choice. So that one could be used for a U.

message 212: by Vicky (new)

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments Thanks for that, Laura, it is super helpful!

I penciled Shadow of Night in for prophecies in divination, I found references to it on a search but you'll have to let us know for sure when you read it (or if anyone else has read it and can chime in, please do!).

First Lord's Fury - He has a fiery sword! I'm currently reading Shattered, which has a non-fiery sword. We could pair them for the fire-making charm! I'll pencil that in too!

The Glittering Court - This has lots of options! We could give our magical creature blue eyes or have it use flowers for decoration. We could also use as part of summoning/banishing the necklace if someone read a book where a character is not wearing a necklace. It could also be something to use in our History of Magic essay.

Curse of the Spellmans - Definitely an option for History of Magic, also for the Turquoise covers in Potions!

Jen - I checked with the mods on this one just to be safe and unfortunately unless we can find a verified word count for this specific book we won't be able to use it. I did some searching but wasn't able to turn anything up. Sorry! :(

I think we could use it for a Banishing charm with a bare foot on the first book. Summoning would be a stretch because there wouldn't be a footprint before you summoned a foot! ;)

I don't know if we can use this for DADA, only because the Dark Art needs to be something in the book and not just in the title.

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments ~Michelle~ wrote: "Exit West by Mohsin Hamid I wanted to make this one fit for an indigo book, but TinEye calls it about 62% violet."

For the record, we don't have to stick 100% with TinEye on this one, as long as it looks good to the eye. But I agree that this is too purpley to be indigo.

Death Rites (The Lazarus Codex #1) by E.A. Copen was vetoed by the captain's group for Indigo.

Someone posted The Crooked Staircase (Jane Hawk, #3) by Dean Koontz in the captain's group to show Indigo.

Here's a few from my books that I think would count, a lot of these showed as Midnight Express (Blue) or Cherry Pie (Violet) on TinEye:

The Sparrow (The Sparrow, #1) by Mary Doria Russell The Demigod Files (Percy Jackson and the Olympians) by Rick Riordan Eragon (The Inheritance Cycle, #1) by Christopher Paolini The Art of Racing in the Rain by Garth Stein Son (The Giver, #4) by Lois Lowry Doctor Who The Shakespeare Notebooks by Justin Richards The Star-Touched Queen (The Star-Touched Queen, #1) by Roshani Chokshi
