I'm planning a reread of this series in preparation for the release of book 10. But since book 10 - the final book - won't be released until August 28th, I probably won't reread them during TTVI. (I'll reread them in August, probably.)

But I read your post in the discussion, Michelle! I'm glad you're enjoying it and I hope you'll agree that it only gets better from there! :-)

Jennifer H Just wanted to let you know I am still out here :) Doctor put me on muscle relaxers for my knee so I have kinda been out of it. I am almost finished with my first book. Just trying to figure out if it fits any of the classes.

Hey everyone! Just a few notes I wanted to get out there.

1) I put links to our spreadsheet and the overall status spreadsheet in my first post on the thread here for easy reference!

2) Books read are updated through here! I know I mentioned this in reply to Lori earlier but to reiterate in an "official" post - we do not have Kelly's magic spreadsheets for this Tower Teams round. We are inputting all books by hand, so don't be alarmed if they don't show up for a day or two. :)

3) There has already been some discussion in the captain's group about people assuming what works for classes, but we do not yet have an official set of rules for them. That said, feel free to mention if you think a book will work for them based on the little information that we have on the spreadsheet but don't be too worried about it until we have a meatier explanation about what they are going to be.

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments BTW - Does anyone else read ARCs? We need three for Divination - I'll for sure read more than three during the course of the challenge, so we'll be good either way, but I figured I would ask. :)

ARCs are Advanced Reader Copies, books that a publisher or author or someone sends you before they're published so that you can review them and, if you enjoy them, hopefully help spread the hype. :-)

Yesterday I finished Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl, illustrated by Quentin Blake.
Date read: May 15-16, 2018 (Goodreads is still having troubles recording dates read. I have only read this book ONCE; I finished it May 16th.)
Pages: 205
Word count: 40,084
Characters: Danny, William, Victor Hazell, Enoch Samways, Doc Spencer, others with initials L, S, M, G, C, K, R

Danny the Champion of the World by Roald Dahl

I read a second book yesterday, but George's Marvelous Medicine, also by Roald Dahl and Quentin Blake, is just 89 pages long (it also only has 11,963 words in it), so it can't count.

I'm not sure why it's not listed in the class guidelines, but it is on the spreadsheet.

2. Knife
3. Mortar and Pestle
4. Scale

Updated to here! :)

I have one more day of back to back jobs (ughhhhh XD) and then I have a much deserved day off on Saturday and I'm going to set aside some time to play with the spreadsheet some more and see what kinds of things we can complete already.

I also think I'm going to pile a few different lists of tasks. There are a ton of things that we'll find throughout the challenge just by reading, but there are also some specific tasks (500+ page brown book, I'm looking at you!) and some tasks that will need a little bit of planning (history of magic, defense against the dark arts, etc) so I'd like to highlight them so the people who want to task hunt can start working on those!

Also - I asked the mods for some clarification on Charms. I gave a few examples I thought of and Sonia confirmed they would work. Here's what I gave combined with some other examples from the captain's chat, just to add a little brain fuel. :)

levitation: perched bird cover -> flying bird cover
summoning: Garden Spells (Waverley Family, #1) by Sarah Addison Allen ->Winter (The Lunar Chronicles, #4) by Marissa Meyer
summoning: empty hand -> hand holding something
summoning: barefoot -> foot w/ shoe on it
banishing: a cover with a bowl sitting on a table -> a cover with an empty table
banishing: the inverse of anything that could work for summoning
firemaking: a cover where someone has a flame in their hand -> a cover where something is on fire
firemaking: a cover with a tree -> a cover with a burning tree
watermaking: a desert scene -> an ocean scene.
watermaking: empty glass -> filled water glass
watermaking: house -> house by a lake

Vicky (librovert) | 3137 comments

My hoarder client let me leave early today so I had an hour and a half to play between jobs. WHEEEE. So, I've added two more tabs to the spreadsheet to help us get organized.

Tasks to Plan is a list of tasks I pulled out that will need some coordination (Care of Magical Creatures, History of Magic, and the classes that require things to be done in pairs).

Tasks to Find is a list of tasks that are more specific and may need to hunting to find. Some will be difficult to find, but some are just books that I felt in a general three months or reading you may or may not stumble upon (for instance, there are tons of books out there with celestial objects in the title, but you may or may not just happen upon them).

There are about 160 other tasks that aren't on these lists - the common letters, the lower ranges of specific page numbers, etc - I think we're likely to stumble upon these in our reading.

All that said, if anyone wants to start trying to hone in on some of the "Tasks to Find" that would be awesome. Also, I think it might be useful to maybe post some of the books we're planning on reading in the near future so we can start looking for things that might match for the planning tasks.

I'm off to work but I'll be back with more tomorrow (and I promise I won't be so wordy once things get underway, I'm an organizer by nature. XD)
