Val H. | 22141 comments Lucky last.

I'm playing it safe this week. I'd love to see North take on the all-conquering Tigers but I'm still tipping the latter. Melbourne always play well up in Brissie; the Eagles are without Nic Natanui (suspended for 1 game); the Lions deserve a win but Melbourne's wet and windy weather may rule them out; Crows have won the last five of the local derbies; Carlton looks more interested in winning than Essendon does these days but I'm hoping the absence of Joe Daniher will inspire my Dons to greater efforts; and I keep waiting for Collingwood to fall in a heap - they've had a gruelling schedule since ANZAC Day. Hopefully the return of Gazza to the cats will see them fix up the Pies (who are without their skipper Andrew Pendlebury). Tonight's game will be very interesting. The Swans are without ex-Hawk Buddy and the Hawks are without ex-Swan Tom Mitchell. The Swans are yet to win on their home ground but have won every away game. Tonight's game at the "G is for hardy souls only, it's been freezing here today.

Duke, I've taken your second post as gospel. You said you'd noticed A mistake - well I count three different teams selected plus a different margin for tonight's game. Are you sure your second post is the right one?

message 461: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Cracker of a game tonight. The hawks and the Swans trading goal for foal. I was wrong, Tom Mitchell is out there but being well-held by the Swans.

Hawthorn Hawks (unwanted) v Sydney Swans (Anita)
4.3.27 (Q1) 4.1.25
5.4.34 (Q2) 6.4.40

message 462: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Well that was a close one and most of us got it wrong. The Swans keep up their away form.

Tonight's result:

Hawthorn Hawks (unwanted) v Sydney Swans (Anita)
4.3.27 (Q1) 4.1.25
5.4.34 (Q2) 6.4.40
9.6.60 (Q3) 7.7.49
10.11.71 (Q4) 12.7.79

And tinny-bum tech wins the $6.00 on offer tonight for his tip of Swans x 5. More dough for Oscar's Law. The man's on fire!

Heya Val...sorry, I hadn't noticed the double post last night..dunno how I did that....the edit was to the Hawks punt, which was corrected in the second post, but the remaining games in the 1st post are my intended punts. I've now recorrected the first post again, and deleted the second post...hope that make sense!

Sorry for the confusion...I was a tad tipsy last night! :)

theDuke | 6491 comments Well...this is another one of those rounds....one team finally breaks their duck....and I backed the wrong one..again....and Port are just so unpredictable atm.

Well done to the 3 players who managed to get 5 out the 7 matches played so far.

message 474: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Sorry for the late results. I was out all day yesterday - opera in the afternoon followed by a late gig. Plus got my daughter and boyfriend staying as their heater is broken. And, just when you need it most, today is Mothers' Day, so the rest of the crew will be arriving shortly. I managed to miss all of yesterday's action barring the final results but the family tell me the Port/Crows game was an absolute cracker and that Essendon were yet again abysmal.

Today/night's results:

Greater Western Sydney Giants (Duke) v West Coast Eagles (Sussex)
2.3.15 (Q1) 2.6.18
5.8.38 (Q2) 7.7.49
8.10.58 (Q3) 10.11.71
8.13.61 (Q4) 12.14.86

Carlton Blues (RedJohn) v Essendon Bombers (Val)
4.1.25 (Q1) 3.2.20
6.2.38 (Q2) 5.9.39
10.6.66 (Q3) 7.14.56
14.7.91 (Q4) 10.18.78

Gold Coast Suns (Suzy) v Melbourne Demons (TheFoe)
3.5.23 (Q1) 4.5.29
5.7.37 (Q2) 8.11.59
9.9.63 (Q3) 13.17.95
11.11.77 (Q4) 21.20.146

Port Power (Grizzly) v Adelaide Crows (Deano)
1.3.9 (Q1) 4.2.26
4.6.30 (Q2) 8.3.51
11.11.77 (Q3) 10.5.65
14.11.95 (Q4) 14.6.90

Western Bulldogs (Blastro) v Brisbane Lions (David)
4.3.27 (Q1) 4.1.25
9.5.59 (Q2) 6.5.41
12.8.80 (Q3) 8.8.56
16.11.107 (Q4) 14.9.93

Fremantle Dockers (unwanted) v St Kilda Saints (Lez)
3.2.20 (Q1) 1.2.8
7.5.47 (Q2) 1.5.11
9.9.63 (Q3) 7.7.49
13.11.89 (Q4) 8.11.59

As Duke said, Anita, Blastro and Grizzly are to be congratulated for picking 5 from the 7 games played so far. The North/Cats game is about to start so I might catch a bit of that. Here's hoping it turns out as good as it looks on paper - two free-flowing sides who love to kick goals.

message 475: by Val (new)

Val H. | 22141 comments Today's results:

North Melbourne Kangaroos (Steve) v Richmond Tigers (Philip)
2.0.12 (Q1) 3.4.22
5.2.32 (Q2) 8.4.52
9.3.57 (Q3) 9.7.61
11.6.72 (Q4) 12.10.82

Collingwood Magpies (Tech) v Geelong Cats (awaiting MC)
1.3.9 (Q1) 2.4.16
1.6.12 (Q2) 4.7.31
4.11.35 (Q3) 7.10.52
5.15.45 (Q4) 9.12.66

The North/Tigers game was everything you could wish for - both teams showing exquisite skills and determination. North had the lead in the last quarter but the Tigers fought back to win. A win for either side would have been well deserved.

Collingwood never really got going and are now plagued by injury woes. The Cats looked tired but still determined enough to pull off the win.

Val H. | 22141 comments Our tipsters' ladder is as follows:

Round 8 (first number is correct number of wins - you want this to be high; number in brackets is the cumulative margin which is used to separate punters on the same amount of points - you want this to be low)

Tech on 6 (3)
Grizzly on 6 (7)
Blastro on 6 (11)
SussexWelsh on 6 (19)
RedJohn on 6 (20)
Anita on 6 (24)
Duke on 5 (14)
Val on 5 (15)
Philip on 5 (15)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 5 (20)
David on 5 (32)
Foe on 5 (28)
Deano on 5 (41)
Lez on 5 (51)
Suzy on 3 (5)

Charity donations are:

Foe (Launch Housing) - $6.00 (highest score - Demons 146)
tech (Oscar's Law) - A$6.00 (closest margin)
tech (Oscar's Law) - A$11.00 (weekly winner)

CUMULATIVE LADDER:

Tech on 50 (188)
SussexWelsh on 50 (262)
Duke on 48 (257)
Sj Brooke (Steve) on 48 (258)
Lez on 47 (364)
Blastro on 46 (227)
Val on 44 (267)
Anita on 44 (289)
RedJohn on 43 (355)
David on 42 (236)
Philip on 42 (361)
Deano on 42 (377)
Foe on 40 (352)
Grizzly on 33 (295)
Suzy on 25 (276)

Tech pulled off the double this week by winning the weekly comp and having the closest margin - AND he's leading overall. As I said earlier - tinny bum! Foe's Demons performed well up in Brisbane and earn him $6.00 for Launch Housing. Well done to both these gents and also to Grizzly, Blastro, Anita and Sussex for consistent tipping in another difficult week.

Please check your scores!!!
