I informed Jane of Pam's unfortunate need to withdraw from the challenge. Given that we are more than half way through, Jane asked that we move forward with 5 team members.

Review:

Even the titel states „getting hotter“ it was not the hottest book of the series. But still hot enough 😉. I liked the female MC, strong and independent and their twins were so sweet. I was not able to connect 100% to the male MC, I do not know why. I liked him but I was missing more insights of him. But still great book to read.

Week 7 - Option 1

Blind Trust
Blind Trust (The Boardroom, #2) by Lynda Aicher

Rating: 4

While this could be read as a standalone, I went back and reread the previous book because I misremembered just enough to keep confusing myself! Brie is a paralegal and Ryan is a partner at the law firm she works at. So basically, this is a office romance with a dash of kinky sex club, abusive childhoods, and emotional issues. Brie hides her emotions behind a placid country-club facade - years of her mother nitpicking any perceived flaw have led her to be afraid to be anything other than blandly perfect. The results of Ryan's abusive childhood mean he expects any sort of relationship to be quid pro quo - if someone does something nice for him, he expects they're always looking for something in return. His ex-wife basically called him an emotionless robot. A somewhat anonymous encounter (he recognizes her, but she doesn't recognize him) at a kinky sex club leads to an awareness that they can't ignore.

I especially liked the progress of the relationship in this book. There's not really any giant romantic gestures or big discussions - they just slowly start spending more time together to the point that, by the time Brie needs to find a new apartment, Ryan simply invites her to move in with him, pointing out quite logically that they're already spending lots of time at his place and then adds in the adorably sweet addendum that he really likes waking up with her and cuddling with her after work.

Audio's are hard for me actually. There is only a few books it works for me with. I tend to have too many distraction and so i miss the story and have no idea what is going on. And I'm rarely able to listen while at work without a ton of interruptions, but got lucky. Same with at home. So my car ride into/ from work is usually all i can muster.

Review: I put this book down a long time ago because I wanted to get caught up with the Harry Dresden series before I read the short story inside it. I'm glad I did but I've also discovered a lot of other series in this anthology that I need to get into as well! It's nice to get a taste of different authors and worlds in one sitting (which is literally how I read this book today). You don't really need to be caught up with the series to enjoy the stories, they were nice little snippets!

Review: This was a sweet story about broken hearts and second chances. I agree with another reviewer that this book is a bit like West Side Story: "the rich kid that summers at the island vs. the townie that those rich people believe are there to serve them." I still enjoyed it but it was slow in places.

Ice Planet Barbarians

Rating: 4

This is absolute fluffy WTFery, and it was just what I was in the mood for. It's got a ton of things I usually don't like (fated mates, insta-love, first person present tense POV, some questionable consent stuff) but somehow it all worked.

I think it helps that the book doesn't take itself too seriously, plus it had a couple of Star Wars references that made me laugh. The world building was also much better than I expected with lots of different alien species, flora and fauna. So, overall, even though the hero was blue, horned and ridged-in-odd-places, this was a delightfully fun read.

Review: This was a great lazy way to spend Sunday morning. Short and sweet. A little predictable, but sometimes that is just what you need. Tanya has come back to her hometown after leaving to make it big the day after high school graduation. She is really hung-up on what she thinks is the only way to make herself worthy, to have made it famous as an actor. While this is not a surprising for an 18 year old, she is now 28 and needs to come to grips.

Fits: # 58 on Romance With Extra Drama! list.

There is so much that shouldn't work about this romance between a severely traumatized woman and a suicidal movie star, but it does. It's told in Alice's first person POV, and it actually took me getting through quite a bit of the book before you realize that she's not exactly a reliable narrator. Even though both characters have lots of heavy baggage to deal with, their relationship is just so sweet. Definitely picking up another book by this author soon!

6. Read a book with something from the list below found on your bookcover:
*a mirror
*a shiny/reflective surface (eg glass, sheet metal, body of water)
*an item that would shine if the sun or a light was directed on to it (eg knife blade, spurs, watch, jewellry).

Book: Crowned and Dangerous
Author: Rhys Bowen
Pages: 307
Read: 5/11/18
Rating: 3.5
Review: I had a really hard time getting into this book. I saw that you should read these in order, this is the first of the series i have read. The mystery stands on it own, you only drying have the back story of the MC's, which doesn't seem that big of a deal. Queenie and Zamanka were funny characters that i enjoyed. While the reason for the mystery hits right away it seemed really slow ttyl get into any detective work and then it was a race to the finish where everything just came together in a bow.

Fits: Metallic purse is shiny surface that would shine in sunlight

Review:

This is a pretty cute summer romance set on an island in Florida. I liked the main couple - Lauren and Carter - and loved the descriptions of small town life and the well-written secondary characters. What I didn't care for so much was the resolution of both the romance and Lauren's conflict with her father. Despite not having seen each other in ten years, and spending only a few hours together over the course of less than a week, the book ends with a marriage proposal. I just didn't get the sense that they'd put enough work into the relationship for the marriage to be successful, and it left me questioning the HEA.

I don‘t know exactely what I was missing but even for a short book the story was too simple. Maybe because I am used to more twists and turns in a story, but the MCs fall in love too quickly and the global story of consulting Trevor improving his business was not plausible enough. Nevertheless I like the writing style.
