Review: Claire Hayward, the headmistress of a school for young ladies, reencounters August, the Duke of Holloway after ten years.
Sparks fly, misunderstandings ensue and a typical historical romance takes place. I liked the story line but wanted to slap August because it took him a little longer than usual to stop acting like an ass. I didn't enjoy this one as much as her others but the next one in the series looks promising based on the excerpt in the back of the book.

Arg. I'm all off already

I'll finish my correct book. I ended up with OT this week which put my reading behind. Ya for the needed funds, but boo for my reading life.

It’s hard to review this book without giving a piece of it away.
So, I’ll just say that it’s okay. The beginning was really good, but as the story went on, I became less invested in the characters and the story.
I figured out the suspense early on, so the story may be more enjoyable to those who are left in the dark until the end.

I‘ve already read a few books from Abbi Glines and like her writing style. The general story reminds me of the first sea breeze novel „Breathe“ and by beginning of the second half of the book I knew what kind of drama was coming. Well written book but too obvious cliffhanger for me. Nevertheless I will read book 2 to see how the story goes on.

I'm glad I continued on with the next book in the London Celebrities series. While I liked the first one, there were also some eyeroll-worthy issues, and I think this one was just so much better plotted. Lily Lamprey has spent the past four years being typecast as the blonde bimbo on a soap opera - er, I mean, "period drama" - so she's determined to make the best impression she can on Luc Savage, director of a new production on the West End. Unfortunately, he's already decided, back on her looks, that she must have the personality of a blowup doll. I do love "bad first impression" tropes, and I thought the exploration of society's expectations of Lily - based on her looks, family history, and TV character - was fascinating and very well done. As in the first book, all the characters were well-written and distinct. I especially loved Trix, Lily's roommate, and Freddy, the highly experienced teen actress. I can't wait to read the next one!

Review: Enjoyable continuation of the Wyndham Brides series. I do like a Grace Burrowes historical. Charlotte Wyndham finds herself married to Lucas Sherbourne through a series of unexpected events. Charlotte never expected to marry and finds herself surprised when Lucas accepts her for herself. But Charlotte has secrets and Lucas has problems and it isn't until they trust each other that happiness ever after comes. I like that the sisters have honorable causes that are supported by their men. Burrowes really develops the characters from the last book in the series and the ass that was Lucas Sherbourne becomes a strong sympathetic hero.

Do not forget that Week 1's completion post needs to be posted before the next call.

Its actually before next week's call :) They can be two books behind when I announce week 3 but then have to post their completion post before the week 4 call.
I think the terminology is 'more than 2 books behind' and in the new theme week there's a bit of grace :D
...But crack that whip I say ;)

Darn it. Sorry Plethora for pressuring you. I'll get the hang of this soon.
Thanks, Jane, for helping me out :o)

Lilac Girls by Martha Hall Kelly - ***** - 3/22/2018 - 487 Pages
Review: Oh, the cover of this book is deceiving. This is not a bright shiny happy chick lit book. It's about concentration camps during WW2 and a group called "the rabbits" who are women that were experimented on by Nazi doctors. The story is broken up into three points of view, Caroline from NYC who is spinster do-gooder, Kasha who is one of the rabbits and Dr. Oberhauser who is the Nazi doctor who did the experiments. The point of view would change just as the narrators story got intense so that was good, but this book took me awhile to get through and I had to put it down many times to make it through.

Review: I much enjoyed this little old school whodunit mystery. House full of people someone ends up dead and everyone knows it just has to be one of the house guest and things continue to get stranger. Each character having their own possible motives or just making you question them because. Reminds me somewhat of Agatha Christie's And Then There Were None. I can't believe there is 66 books in this series! Can't wait to read more in.

For me, I don't have a particular one I'm hoping for, but there is one theme that I'm hoping Jane doesn't call. I can't find anything to fit it.

My second book from Amy Andrews and I've enjoyed it as much as the first one. I liked the story and the right balance between drama and passion. I could easily connect with both MCs. Loved the idea of "strip" Battlefront game. Read it in one session perfect for Saturday afternoon.

Maybe it was the voice of the female narrator

Maybe I should have completed all of Corps Security before reading book 1 of the spin off series which consists of their children

Maybe I should also have a lobotomy

I didn’t like this. This book was superficial and unrealistic. Harper Sloan kept adding weird stuff to the plot to make it more interesting and to create angst, but I wanted it to stop!

Why is there a weird horse running in the middle of my review? Well, if Sloan can add weirdness to her books, I can have them in my review.
By the way Ms. Sloan, not every male character can be an OTT possessive and protective alpha. Especially when your book contains 50 OF THEM and they are all trying to protect one heroine. It’s too much.
Then there is Dani, Dani, Dani (the heroine). She was so defenseless and so fragile. I’m amazed that she made it to her early twenties without succumbing to some improbable, overly emotional, anxiety created death.
And what the heck is up with this weird TV show?
This is the end of the road for me with the Hope Town Series. I MAY go back and finish Corps Security...that’s a big MAYBE.

Review:
I have a vague recollection of reading this absolute ages ago, before the author re-edited and re-released it. I have to say, I don't remember caring for it that much before, but I liked it so much this time that I had a hard time putting it down. I always like reading about neurodivergent characters (Ian has autism) and I love historicals where the heroine isn't a virgin (Beth's a widow). Both characters' POVs were well done, and I loved the rest of the Mackenzie family as well. I thought their reactions to Ian - though there's no doubt they love him, they still treat him as though he can't take care of himself - were well done, and I loved how Beth upended all of their expectations. I'm looking forward to reading the rest of the series!

( I get up on Friday am, which is Thursday late afternoon for USA EST.) ~~~~ I'm on the WEST COAST....so way early.
