Buddy Read Requests 2018

Would the 20th work for you?

The Library at Mount Char by Scott Hawkins
His Majesty's Dragon by Naomi Novik (first in a series)
A Game of Thrones (believe me I know I'm late to the party on this one)
Dragon Teeth by Michael Crichton
These are kind of just a handful of books I have to read, but if anyone's interested, I have a pretty free summer!!

A list of all the buddy reads below. Easier sometimes than scrolling through to find the buddy read.

Hi Leah
I would like to read A Game of Thrones. I could start mid-June

That would be awesome. Would they create a new thread, or would we go through the old one? I'm not familiar yet with everything.

Thank you!!! Sorry, my computer didn't update for me immediately.

It's fine with me if you want to read it as a BR I'm up for it. We could read ~50 pages per day and be done in about 20 days. Not so bad.

Or some non-main-series Tolkien? I have Book of Lost Tales 1 and 2, Children of Hurin, and The Shaping of Middle-Earth.
(Team Luna, if anyone wants it for Tower Teams.)

Hi, I just joined this group but are you still wanting to buddy read a classic?

I've really want to do Arabians nights. Can you do it in the middle of june or beginning of july?

Sorry, but I read it on my own a few months ago. Recommendation: find a different translation from the Burton.

Master and Margarita and Genji are the only two left on my TBR. They're really time-intensive (Genji is 1000 pages), and since I'm doing Tower Teams now may not be the best time. Are you interested in one of those two?

Hello Suzanne, I would love to do a buddy read of Barefoot Season
Hi Drew, I got a copy of Barefoot Season and would like to join you when you read this. Would June 22nd or later work for you? I have about 6 buddy reads before then and think I would be pretty slow if it was anytime before the 22nd. I'm also not sure if Suzanne still wants to join.

I'm ok with June 22nd or later.

Hello Suzanne and Annalisa~
June 22 would be terrific for me. Yea!!! I got something to look forward to.

I love Susan Mallery! I will try to join in too, if that's ok.

The more people we have, the more opinions we have, the better the Buddy Read will be!!!!! The only bad thing is that we have to wait until June 22nd.
Before it comes time to read this hopefully wonderful novel, how about we discuss how this buddy read will work. I have seen this type of challenge in other groups and they all were slightly different than the others. Some questions that I have are:
1) Do we want to discuss this novel by a thread here on GR or through Private Message here on GR?
2) What kinds of questions or discussions would you like to be included (or excluded)?
3) Spoilers or non-spoilers?
4) What do we want to do if 1 or more people finish before other people?
Please let me know before June 22nd so that we can start on time.
--Drew

2) Up to you - I don't mind whatever kind of questions!
3) Since people read at different speeds, maybe mark spoilers with spoiler tags and before the tag, refer to what part they refer to - does that sound ok to you Drew?
4) If I finish early, I never mind discussing with people that finish slower - and vice versa.
Anyway, that is my 2 cents :)

I am part of tower teams and also find it helpful to have the thread set up here.
I like the spoiler tags because it does help when people read a different speeds.
Once the tread is set up I think we can discuss this more.

1) A GR thread works better for me.
2) If there are sample discussion questions for the book, we can start with those. I'm sure other topics or questions will also come up as we read the book. I'm open to going wherever the conversations take us.
3) We should probably use spoiler tags until we've all finished. Or, at the start of your post, indicate how far you are so we know if we should continue reading the post or not.
4) I'm also fine with discussing, regardless of where I or others are in the book.
Thanks!

Anyone else up for
in July? (It is book 2 and in typical Schwab style book 3 isn’t coming until 2020. Sigh)
