It can be in any way you want to interpret the prompt. It could have a star on the cover, star in the title, set in space or a character name. Keeping some prompts vague will allow readers to be creative with their choices too, so I'm really excited to see what others have come up with.

Hey Clare, just an observation that your book chosen for the Non-binary, Genderfluid or Genderqueer protagonist prompt, The Art of Being Normal has two binary protagonists. A great alternative could be Every Day or Mask of Shadows. Also if you scroll down to Non-Binary Protagonists on LGBTQ READS you can find more recommendations as well.

I loved A Corner of White. I hope you love it too.

Oh okay, I looked at the list that was linked and thought any book on the list counted. I'll look again. Thanks.
Hey everyone! I just wanted to let y'all know that when we say "protagonist" in the second prompt we mean the main character (POV) in the book. So if you've chosen a book with a side character that's non-binary, genderqueer, or genderfluid it doesn't quite fit the prompt! We have included the link to LGBTQ Reads (you have to scroll down the list to find non-binary, genderqueer, and genderfluid books!) to assist everyone with picking books that fit the prompt, but here's some I know of:
- Mask of Shadows by Linsey Miller
- Lizard Radio by Pat Schmatz
- The Symptoms of Being Human by Jeff Garvin
- The Tiger's Watch by Julia Ember
- Ida by Alison Evans (Aussie author, too!)
- Every Day by David Levithan
- Finding Nevo by Nevo Zisin which is a memoir by a young Aussie!

- Every Day by David Levithan
- Finding Nevo by Nevo Zisin which is a memoir by a young Aussie!
@Liz - I'll Give You the Sun has a cis gay teen as a protagonist so it doesn't quite fit the prompt. See my above comment or the LGBTQ Reads link to find a book that fits!
@Tien - I noticed you put If I Tell You as a choice for our second prompt... from what I can tell the book is about a lesbian character and not a non-binary, genderqueer or genderfluid one! Check out my comment above or the LGBTQ Reads site for some recommendations that fit the prompt :)

Thanks Chiara, this helps heaps.

That you so much Chiara for the recommendations! I think it also really highlights the need for more young adult books need to be published with non-binary, genderqueer or genderfluid main character identities doesn't it.

Thanks, I'm really enjoying it so far!
@Kelly - no problem at all! Yep, we definitely need more and the best way to help that happen is to buy/read/borrow the ones that are already out there so publishers know there's a demand for them :)

Thanks, Chiara, I wasn't confident with my choice either...
I did some research this morning & found my library holds a copy of Cycler (Cycler #1) by Lauren McLaughlin which I think fits the prompt better, yea?
@Tien: I haven't heard of that book personally! From what I can tell it seems to be about two separate characters sharing the same body but maybe the ending will shed some light on that... We appreciate you trying to find a book that fits so it will count for you :)

I'm so confused... but I think I understand what you're getting at; I'm actually looking forward to this book so I'd read it & let you know how it is :) Thanks!
