Tien (tiensblurb) | 92 comments um, checking if Afterworlds (Afterworlds #1) count for #LoveOzYA ? Am not sure if authors have to be Aussie born or can just live in Oz some of the time?

Marie Davies | 38 comments Planning ahead - and I have a few questions - is Rick Riordan’s books YA or children’s? Thoughts?

I’m also finding ‘mysterious monsters’ a tricky one for me - anyone got any suggestions?

P.S I’m so glad it’s May as I’ve had Obsidio on my shld for weeks... waiting to include it as my AI. I can’t believe I’ve been so patient!!! :)

I thought YA as characters are usually in their teens...? I haven't read all of them but the ones I've read have teenage characters.

I’m also finding ‘mysterious monsters’ a tricky one for me - anyone got any suggestions?

I've slotted in Daughter of Smoke & Bone (Daughter of Smoke & Bone #1) though I can't remember why I did that...?

And I will also be reading OBSIDIO!!! :D

Are you coming to SWF YA day, Marie?

Chiara (delicateeternity) | 81 comments Mod
Hi Marie! I think it depends on which Riordan book you're wanting to pick. The first few Percy Jackson books are middle grade, but I am pretty sure all his other books are YA as the protagonists are teens!

For Mysterious Monsters, you can pick most paranormal books, I think! Tien's choice of DOSAB is a good one :) This Savage Song would be a great one to read if you haven't already!

I found 2 books by Tanith Lee about AI. She wrote mostly fantasy from late 1970s on but The Silver Metal Lover and Metallic Love are spec fic with robots. I'm reading the 2nd book because my library had it and I don't think you have to have read no.1. Well, I hope not. Haven't started yet because I'm so behind.

Great. I couldn't download to my kindle on the train, but can do it in work. A unique structure which I kind of liked.

If anyone's looking for a book with bisexual protag & religion: Ask Me How I Got Here is an amazing verse novel with catholicism vs abortion, sensitively written. From reading this I discovered there are Catholics who are pro-choice. (I grew up catholic and don't think highly of it these days)

Hi Niamh, from reviews it appears the character in Whisper has selective mutism, and thus does not fit the prompt.

I will be doing a proper recommendation post soon, but for now, here are some lists from Disability in Kidlit. Though you will have to double check the book you pick features a protagonist, and not a side character!

Visually impaired: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...

Hearing impaired: https://www.goodreads.com/review/list... and https://www.goodreads.com/review/list...
