I'm with you there Kelsey - I'm definitely a fiction kinda girl! In my personal experience the non-fiction books that you read either have to be superbly written or on a topics that you are really into. Wish you the best of luck with your challenge :-)

I love many different Genre's - these days I'm reading a lot of YA Fantasy (Falling Kingdoms), but I also like Murder Mystery (The Nightbird), historical fiction, (The Address) and Contemporary (Little Fires Everywhere).
I was in this group last year - I love to see what everyone is reading - what are the most talked about books of the year and of course watching my Read list grow. Last year my goal was 20 books and I surpassed that. This year I went with 30 and I'm almost at 50. While I would like my 28 goal to be 100 books - it is probably not feasible, with a Full time job, a part time job, being a single mom to a 10 year old, I'm not sure I could do it. So I'm going to go with 50-55 books for 2018!
So glad to be here again!!

My name is Kim and I'm from Huntington WV. I've always been a reader. When I was young my parents signed me up for things like the Disney book club and then teen Doubleday book club. I..."
Kim I will have to look into those podcast that sounds like fun! I wish you a year of great books I hope you have a great year reading. Tons of our members have joined the Popsugar Yearly challenge I hope to see you jump in.

Hi, Heather, I am glad that you have joined the group. Different from school, participation in all group activities here is voluntarily :) You don't have to you join a groupread if you don't want to or don't have enough time to read the book. That said, it is a lot of fun to discuss great books with other members, and I would encourage you to have a look at the group or buddy reads and just join in whenever you feel like it :)
Happy reading!

I'm Liz, and I live in North Dakota, USA. I read anything that has a great story-- so that's usually a lot of YA, fantasy, scifi, comic books, and whatever I get my hands on :)
I'm a library junkie, and Overdrive saves my life!
I just hit my goal for 2017 of 200 books! Next year I hope to blog about each of my books, so I'm setting my goal down to 104.

Welcome to the group! 50 books sounds like a great goal (muscles flexed I would say). Hope you'll enjoy the group as much as I have this past year!

I am Kaleigh and I am from Ottawa, Canada. I have been on Goodreads for a long time but this is the first time I have really joined a group. I joined the group because I was inter..."
Welcome to the group Kaleigh! Nice to hear you will be joining the Popsugar Challenge. For my the monthly group and buddy reads also meant broadening my horizons and reading books I probably wouldn't have read otherwise. Have a look around at what this group has to offer and what interests you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the group Juliet! We have some awesome challenges you can choose from (or do all of them if you want). Besides those I'm a real fan of the monthly group and buddy reads, or you can choose to twin read a book from your TBR. Lots of possibilities, just have a look and see what interests you. I hope you'll have lots of fun participating in this group!

I'm Rekha from London. I just joined the group yesterday and added my 52 book challenge to the challenge board. Already I'm very glad that I joined as I've had some great sup..."
Hi Rekha, we are very glad to have you! This group has really helped me to get out of my reading slump. Started out with a careful goal of 12 books and am reading now my 41st! Thanks to everything this group has to offer but especially, as you mentioned, all the encouragement from group members. I hope you'll have lots of fun participating!

My 2018 challenge will be to read not less than 30 books. Hopefull..."
Hi Loay, welcome to the group! If your looking for support, encouragement and reading friends you definitely have come to the right place! I hope you'll enjoy this group as much as I have this past year!

Hi Kelsey, nice to meet you too! I think the reading challenge and participating in this group will indeed be a great chance to get back into reading. Welcome and have fun!

We're glad you're back too Jen! Have an amazing reading year!

Hi Heather, well, then you have come to the right place! All the plusses of joining a book club: fellow readers who love to read, great challenges, fun group and buddy reads etc but no pressure at all: if you start earlier/later, finish earlier/later, decide to not read it at all or whatever, it's all ok. As long as you are enjoying yourself! So welcome and have fun!!

I'm Liz, and I live in North Dakota, USA. I read anything that has a great story-- so that's usually a lot of YA, fantasy, scifi, comic books, and whatever I get my hands on :)

Hi Liz, welcome to the group! I wish I could read as much as you! Maybe then my TBR would shrink.....no it probably wouldn't...but just maybe it wouldn't grow so exponentially as it has this past year.
Hope you'll have an amazing time participating in this group!

Thanks! And yes-- it seems no matter how quickly I can get through a book, my TBR pile doesn't let up! There's always more coming out from favorite authors, recommendations coming in from friends, and I just got my first ARCs to review! Too bad reading isn't my full time job! Thanks for moderating!

i am from Dhaka, Bangladesh.
I love books so much that i read any kinds of books i find near me. But, i read thriller, fiction, crime, fantasy, romance occasionally.
My goal is to read 150 books in 2018.
Actually, i was finding a group to join and, this group was in firs recomendation. And that's why i joined this group

My name is Marissa, and I'm from Austin, TX in the USA. I love contemporary African American fiction and dystopian sci-fi, and I have a soft spot for historical fiction. I'm a sucker for the classics, as well.
I found the group because I was searching for a 2018 reading challenge--I just graduated university in May, and I haven't been doing a very good job of reading by my own volition. So I want to change that. I'm aiming to read 30 books this year (I figured it's about a book per week with plenty of wiggle room when life gets a little busy). I'm hoping I can go beyond that goal!

Welcome to the group Tawhira! If you were looking for likeminded people who love to read as much as you then you have come to the right place! Have a look around at everything this group has to offer: great challenges, interesting group and buddy reads, twin reads, chats etc, and see what interests you. If you have any questions don’t hesitate to ask!

Welcome to the group Marissa! I believe you have joined an awesome group that can help you reach and surpass your goal, at least that is my experience. Take a look at the great challenges this group has to offer, I’m also a big fan of the monthly group and buddy reads, or maybe you’d prefer to read from your TBR with a twin. Just see what interests you. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Hi Jayant, welcome to the group! Congratulations on reaching and surpassing your goal, you sure do read a lot :) I wish I could manage to read that much!
Are you planning on joining some of the challenges this group has to offer? Or maybe our monthly group and buddy reads? Have a look around and see what interests you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
Hi everyone!:) I'm Marija, from Macedonia originally but lived in London for 5 years now. I love reading philosophical and psychological books (The Unbearable Lightness of Being by Kundera is one of my favourite books ever, read it multiple times at different ages..) and I love Kafka as well. I also like reading non-fantasy fiction, suspense, romance, classics. Sometimes self improvement books but I'm quite picky about those. And I like science books, especially about quantum physics and space.
This past year I've been very bad with reading anything outside of uni stuff hence I'll reasonably put 2018 goal to 50 books and aim to reach over that hopefully :)
Actually, I just discovered this website last week when I saw it randomly on a friends laptop and decided to discover more! Looking forward to meet/chat the rest of you:)

Hi Marija, welcome to the group! That was quite a fortune coincidence that your friend had this site open on her laptop! Cause I think you just discovered an awesome group, at least it has been awesome for me this past year. I had been in a reading slump for years and just didn't manage to get back into it. It made me very sad to think I had lost my passion for reading. But then I discovered this group. I started out with a modest goal of 12 and am now reading my 41st book. Thanks to this group, the amazing challenges it has to offer, interesting monthly group and buddy reads (which are my favourite) and awesome group members who are really friendly and encouraging.
Well Marija, I hope you'll have the same experience. Just have a look around and see what interests you. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask!

I like to read mystery, crime, thriller, historical fiction and classics but will take a break from that to read the occasional chick lit. I just discovered a new sub genre called domestic noir that I like a lot as well.
Years ago I used to read a lot, when I was working on a Bachelor's and then Masters degree I stopped and went to audio books but still not too often. Just recently I've put up some bookshelves, opened up some old boxes of my small book collection and I'm excited to stock my shelves.
I love how everyone in this group is from all over the world! I love to travel (pretty much only US for now and Mexico-hablo Español) and reading lets me explore new places!
My goal for 2018 is 75 books.

Hi Cheri, welcome to the group! Sounds like a great goal when you're getting back to reading (I actually started out with 12 books after being in a reading slump for years). Are you planning on joining any of the challenges the group has to offer to help you reach your goal? Or maybe our monthly group and buddy reads (my favourites)?
Just have a look around and see what interests you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Raquel, welcome to the group! GR indeed is an amazing site and this group in particular is even more amazing (lol, not biased in any way). Because of some stuff happening in life I got in a reading slump which lasted for YEARS. Joined GR which helped me a bit (went from reading nothing to reading 3 books in 1 year). But then I found this group.... Carefully I set my goal for 2017 at 12 books, hoping, really hoping to reach it. Thanks to the great challenges, awesome group and buddy reads and last but certainly not least the encouragement from group members, I am now reading my 41st book of 2017 :)))

I must say, even though I have been reading all my life (except from those reading slump years) I'm not really familiar with all genres, and then you have sub-genres too, very confusing. Of course I know the main ones like horror, thriller, mystery etc, but sometimes I read a book and just don't know how to classify it....
I love how everyone in this group is from all over the world! I love to travel (pretty much only US for now and Mexico-hablo Español) and reading lets me explore new places!
Yes, isn't that great!!!
I love to travel too. A "hobby" that has been on hold too but have picked that up too. Just been to Taiwan, Dubai/Oman at the beginning of the year and in march 2018 I'll be going to Marocco :))
I don't speak spanish, although I do understand it a little bit cause I'm Portuguese.
Are there countries you would love to visit in the future?
My goal for 2018 is 75 books."
Nice goal Raquel! Will you be joining any of the challenges or maybe some group/buddy/twin reads to help you reach your goal?
I hope you'll have a lot of fun participating in this group! If you have any questions at all, don't hesitate to ask!

I love all kinds of books, fiction, non-fiction (history) , classics and contemporary literature, thrillers, sci-fi, etc...
"War and Peace" is on my TBR list for 2018, quite a challenge, I know...

Hi Sabine, welcome to the group! If it is support and encouragement that you are looking for, you have come to the right place! The group members are really friendly and cheering you on whenever you need it, or so it is in my experience. Also maybe you would like to join some of the great challenges this group has to offer, or perhaps our monthly group/buddy reads (my favourites). Just have a look around and see what interests you. If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Hi Denise, welcome to the group!
Sorry to hear you had a rough year. I hope 2018 will be better for you.
Glad to hear you'll be making a fresh start in 2018! 62 sounds like a nice goal! Will you be joining any of the challenges in this group? Or maybe the group, buddy or twin reads?

In different groups? Wow, I have a hard time keeping everything up to date in this one alone! :)

I love to read many genres including audio books. it's more easier to say what I don't like to read than what I like to.
My new goal in 2018 is reading 100 books in a year. Actually, I did the same thing in 2017, but even though it's the end of the year, I'm still working on the 87th book.
When I joined Goodread, I looked around many groups and this group was fascinating!
I wish I would finish 100 books without fail this time. I think this group will be a great motivation for me.
Good luck for your reading challenges!

Welcome to the group Daren! If you want to challenge yourself to read more then you have come to the right place! This group has a lot to offer (great challenges, interesting group and buddy reads and group members who are always willing to help and encourage you); it has helped me a lot to stimulate my reading and rekindle my passion for reading. I hope you’ll have a similar experience!

Welcome to the group Jemma, it’s nice to meet you too! I believe this group can be a great motivation for you, it has been for me this past year! Although I could never manage to read that much, that’s quite impressive!
Have a look around, see what this group has to offer and see what interests you. If you have any questions please don’t hesitate to ask!

Mostly read crime, YA and a few classics but looking to branch out a bit in 2018 and try some other stuff. I am rubbish at recording my reads on here but I am going to try and keep a better record in 2018. Kindle tells me I have read about 50 books in 2017, along with a few in paper form so aiming for around 80 books in 2018.

Hi Alexia, welcome to the group! Glad you noticed us while scrolling and decided to join!
With all the enthusiastic and encouraging messages from group members I found that it can even become addictive to post my updates in this group :)
Curious to see what books you'll be picking up in 2018. Are you planning on joining any group challenges or maybe some group/buddy reads?
Just have a look around to see what this group has to offer and see what interests you. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

I love to read fantasy books (with the odd non-fiction thrown in here and there). Brandon Sanderson is my all-time favourite author.
I found the group when trying to figure out what book to read from my extensive 'to read' list next. It seems that everyone else struggles as much as I do!
My reading goal is 52 books, one for each week! I only made it to 40 this year because I read some pretty large ones, will have to add some smaller volumes to the list this year :) I can't wait!!

Hi Naomi, welcome to the group!
We sure all struggle with the same issue, that everlasting (and growing, in my case) TBR list :)
I hope you'll enjoy the group! There are some great challenges you can join. Also the monthly group and buddy reads are a lot of fun. If you have any questions, just ask!

My name is Sean, from Bristol in the UK. I've just joined goodreads (to find some recommendations for Christmas presents) but saw this group and thought I'd stick my head in. I've tried reading a hundred books a year for the last few years and not got past about seventy, but I plan to give it another go in 2018.
I tend to read a bit of a mix, though with a pronouced bias toward science fiction. The last one was "Why Mummy Drinks" by Gill Sims, which any parent should get a kick out of.
cheers

Welcome Sean, glad you decided to check out this group! From my own experience this past year I must say it is an awesome group. It has many great challenges, fun and interesting group and buddy reads and the group members are very enthusiastic and encouraging. So after a reading slump of many years I'm back to reading, finally, so happy about that! Although I can't imagine reading as much as you do, this group has helped me read 43 books where I hoped to read 12 (after hardly having read at all the 5 years before that, or maybe even longer). So I hope you'll enjoy the group and everything it has to offer as much as I have this past year!
ps: did you succeed in finding ideas for your Christmas presents?

cheers
*How is the population of Norway not zero already?

I like classic murder mysteries - Agatha Christie being a favourite of mine, and enjoy spy thrillers, but nothing with blood and gore. Any of the following would have me making a beeline for the exit at the book shop!
- gritty realism
- dark
- haunting
- dystopian
So it's solving the puzzle that appeals to me, and working out the solution before the end of the book.
I also read a lot of non-fiction, particularly about physical and mental health and wellbeing. Mostly because I am aiming to keep the little grey cells in good order as I "mature".
My challenge will be to get my TBR down, but I don't intend to stop buying books in 2018! I just want to read a few more than I buy each month, and the total will gradually shrink. I have read 22 books so far in December, and only bought two, so that's a good start. (I'm not counting Xmas presents mind you. I mean, it's not my fault if people give me books is it? It's not like I had them on a public wish list or anything silly like that.....ahem!)
