Hi Erin, welcome to the group! I hope you'll have a great year of reading and that this group will contribute to the fun. Have a look around and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

Beau Lindsey Hey everyone! My name is Beau, I️ live in the beautiful state of Washington. I️’ve become more of a book worm this past year but most my friends don’t have the same passion for novels like myself! I️ love the community you can find on Goodread, and have found so many gems by reading peoples recommendations and am sure I’ve dodged a couple of bullets too! I️ really want to read 60 books this upcoming year. That’s double my goal for 2017, but I️ read a lot of thick 24-hour plus books like IT. Glad I️ found this group, look forward to many conversations :)

Erin Young (erinzo) | 177 comments Hey! I'm Erin, I'm 20 and I'm from England :)

I like sci fi, fantasy, thriller, horror, and I do enjoy contemporaries when I'm in the mood for them. I will read pretty much anything though.

My reading goal for 2018 is really to just continue the way I have been in 2017! After suffering with depression for so long I've finally been able to enjoy reading the way I used to and I've read more in the past year than I have between like 2013-2016... SORRY FOR GETTING PERSONAL LOL. I wanna see if I can read 60 books in 2018! I wanted to join some groups this year to help encourage me to read more :)

I look forward to seeing everyone's progress in 2018!

Sheryl_at_Ubookquitous (ubookquitous) | 377 comments Hi everyone -- I'm Sheryl and I'm back for another year. This year I cleared 76 books off my TBR and had such a good year I changed my goal a couple of times and had a banner year. I participated in several challenges and met some of those goals.

The downside of the whole thing was that I fell far short on writing my reviews and posting them :-(

I'm looking forward to participating again this year. I'm starting with a goal of 52 books and hope it goes up. I also hope to write more reviews.

message 105: by Melinda (new)

Melinda | 7 comments Hello everyone! I'm Melinda and I live in Texas, close to Dallas. I have two pups that are my heart and soul.

I have always loved to read (except maybe way back when I had to read college text books...haha). I love the feel of a book in my hand, flipping the pages, and the smell. I have not made the move to electronic or audio books. I end up falling asleep when I do that!

I like to read biographies, non fiction, crime thrillers, certain self help books and I am always on the look out for Vegan Gluten Free cookbooks. Where are you from?

I found this group from Instagram, I think. Could have been here on Goodreads also. To be honest I have started following so many new people/pages on Instagram, that I feel like that social media platform is the new Pinterest! I can't keep up. Every time I look at posts on Instagram my list of books I want to read gets longer and longer. I have tried to make note of there here, but I am also a pen & paper type girl so I think I might make a list also.

My reading goal for 2017 was 20 books. I don't think I am going to make that goal this year, but have high hopes for 2018. I hope to read at least 50.

Nicole reading_with_nicole (reading_with_nicole) Hello Everyone!

My name is Nicole, I live in Arizona.. The state that is always hot..
I am super excited to be a part of the group. I LOVE reading, although I stopped for a while.. Between life and social media I have lost touch with my love of books.. Until now, I have finished 2 books in a weeks times and it felt amazing to give my mind that vacation it needed.
I am a lover of Asian Fiction.. completely obsessed with the culture. I just finished ready Kevin Kwans - Crazy Rich Asians and getting ready to start China Rich Girlfriend.
I also just finished Big Littles Lies- I have to say I enjoyed the series more than the book, which is a first for me, because books are always so much better.
I will read almost anything except Sci-Fi and History
I want to set reading goals I know I can obtain.. so that would be a book a week. I also am probably one of the rare ones that also cannot read off my iPad or listen to an audio book.
I am a huge sucker for the feel of a book in my hands.. I was raised to treat my books as though they were friends.. lol
Sorry for the ramble.. looking forward to this a lot

Hi Erin, welcome to the group! Great to have you here.
I read few to none books in that same period, got back to it this year and just like you have read more this year than in those years combined. Goodreads and this group in particular have helped me rekindle my love for reading and to get back on track. It's an awesome group with great challenges and super friendly group members who are always willing to help and encourage you. I'm also a fan of the monthly group and buddy reads (although that sometimes means I want to read more books in one month than I'm able to lol). So I think you've come to the right place!
I love the genres you mentioned, so maybe we'll meet at some of the buddy reads and get to discuss some awesome books :)

Welcome to the group Melinda, I hope you'll enjoy it as much as I have! I love and have a preference for physical books as well but I love ebooks as well. Used to have some sleeping problems and now those are over, I read in bed on my iPhone and just fall asleep lol. Also it's way easier to take a book with you, always have one on me since I always have my phone with me.
You more than doubled your goal for 2018 I see, impressive! Have a look at the great challenges this group has to offer; they might help you reach your goal (and besides that, they're a lot of fun!). Good luck and if you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

A book a week sounds like a great goal. I prefer physical books too although I now also read on my iPhone, especially in bed when I'm about to go to sleep, it helps. It took some getting used to but now I'm pretty happy ebooks exist.
Hope you'll enjoy this group as much as I have. Have fun!

message 112: by dlmi1234 (last edited Dec 11, 2017 11:29PM) (new)

dlmi1234 Hi!
My name is Diana and I'm from Barcelona. I love reading historical fiction books, specifically World War II, realistic fiction, and well, I like reading most types of fiction. I am really looking forward to being active in this group :). My goal for 2018, is reading 100 books or more.

message 113: by Rachel (new)

Rachel Gosling | 40 comments Hi! I'm Rachel.
I live in the Pacific Northwest of the US. I first found this group last year, and I am hoping to be more consistent in 2018 as far as my involvement goes.
My favorite genres are Memoir and Self-Development for non-fiction, and historical and literary for fiction. But of course those are not the only genres I will read. I love the thrill of finding a book at the library by accident. As a result, I often have too many books going on at once. However, I'm planning to change that by being more INTENTIONAL (My 2017 One Word) about how I plan what to read each month. My goal is 48 books in 2018. Excited to join in more in this community!

Susan | 13 comments Hi, my names Susan.
I live in rural France with my OH. We are currently renovating the house so I don't have 'much' time for reading although I do love to read when I get the chance.
I enjoy most genres really with fantasy being my go to genre.
I set my 2017 goal at 20 which I have beaten (currently at 30) so I think I will set 2018's at 30.
I found this group by chance on the laptop's goodreads page. I usually use the ipad or kindle to access my goodreads. I discovered many groups and thought this one sounded the most interesting so here I am.
I look forward to figuring out how to navigate the group and join in discussion.
Thank you for having me.

I just recently finished my BS and while in school I had no time to read anything other than journal articles and textbooks so I am SO excited to get back to reading for pleasure again! I really like fiction, memoir, fantasy, young adult, historical fiction and self improvement books. I'm starting with a goal of 100 books in 2018, but I'm hoping I'm able to do more. Excited to get new ideas on great books to read!

Mar Santibáñez Hello! I am Mariana, and I am from Yucatán, in México. I recently discover Goodreads and I'm totally excited about it, and about meeting readers from all around the world.

I have very diverse tastes, but I mostly enjoy magical realism, historical fiction and any well written, sweet, optimistic story. I wanted to join a group and I checked a bunch and this one interested me the most. My reading goal is to read at least 50 books in 2018. My English isn't very good, so I apologize for any future mistakes.

Have a great day!

Victoria Ray (raynotbradbury) Hey!
My name is Victoria, I’m from Sweden (born in USSR). I had the account during long time but I almost never used it, so I’m new, or let’s say re-started this week 2017.
My fav: crime, non-fiction -> about health (mostly), food-books (bcz I’m cooking almost 3 times a day from scratch), self-help, meditation, any “feel good” books. Also classics/novels. Short stories as well. Sometimes mystery and thriller, but depends on the style of the writing.
Thank you :)

message 132: by Sarah (new)

Sarah (harasnicole) | 19 comments Hey, I'm Sarah, another one from the United States.

I like reading all kinds of books. YA is probably the most dominant, but I love thrillers too, especially crime ones. I've been trying to slowly dip my toes into Fantasy, but I jumped into the deep end with ASOIAF. I'm still reading the first one off and on, but I'm past the halfway point, and I've found that it's easiest for me to read when I watch the first season concurrently.

My reading goal for 2018 is still tentative at this point, but I think I'm going to use the bulk of it to read/finish the series that I either started or have been meaning to start but kept pushing them aside. After that, it's all up in the air.

message 133: by Cherrie (new)

Cherrie (hicherrie) | 2 comments Hi guys! I'm Cherrie from North Sumatera, Indonesia!
I used to read alot of teen flick, sci-fi back in high school. Used to skip meals and endless sleepless night to catchup with good books! then had a revelation when i was in college and changed 180' to christian books. Still enjoying good classic C.S Lewis and personally enjoy good self-help, biography and nonfictions. I've always wanted to read and own Lord of the rings, orderd my first copy (fellowship of the ring part 1, yes i skip the hobbit). Currently reading Angela Merkel by Kornelius Stefan

Had always wanted to join a group but abit shy to start any convos, i think that shld be my 2018 new year resolution yea!

message 135: by Sam (new)

Sam (siburgess) | 25 comments Hello all,

I'm Sam (or Samuel, I don't mind which), and I live in southern England.

Above all else I love horror fiction, and am particularly fond of a good ghost story. Outside of this I read a broad mish-mash of fiction (contemporary, classic, genre) and non-fiction (largely world history and lit. crit).

I've actually been signed onto the group for a while, but beyond updating my Reading Challenge I don't contribute much on Goodreads, which I would like to change in 2018.

I'm hoping to read a minimum of 25 books - much less than previous years, but I've tended to speed through books or take easier/quicker reads just to keep on top of my Challenge, which isn't a great way to read either seriously or for pleasure. I'd like to take my time and read a greater variety of books in 2018; more standalone novels, more non-fiction about contemporary politics and sciences, at least one fantasy doorstopper. Also looking forward to my traditional annual re-read of 'Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell', 'A Christmas Carol' at year's end, and at least one P.G. Wodehouse book.

message 136: by Noemi (new)

Noemi Roig (noemix) Hi everyone!
My name is Noemi and I was born and actually live in Barcelona, which is in south-western Europe.

English is not my first language so you can expect a lot of mistakes in my posts :-) sorry for that!

I love reading novels in general but I must read a lot of non-fiction too because of work. I like to read almost everything and I hate to drop a book, I almost nerver have done that.

I totally love Mouawad Wajdi and Harry Potter so my taste-range is quite wide. I read almost every genre except short stories or poetry.

Happy reading to everyone!

All thanks to this group, it's great challenges, very interesting (monthly) group and buddy reads and last but not least, wonderful fellow readers who are always willing to help you out and encourage you. My name is Chelsea in real life, Im from somewhere in Michigan and it is so so so cold here right now. I love reading all books, Its too hard for me to pick one genre, it is easier to say what i do not like. I don't like to read mystery series if they are of the beach read type, and I dont like to read biographies about boring people. I found this group in search of a new reading challenge since I met my 2017 goal. My reading goal for 2018 is doubled this year, I am going to shoot for 40 books! I have 2 dogs and a cat and many plants i care for :) Nice to meet you all!
