Abbie Carter Hi Everyone I'm Abbie, I'm from England

I love reading Fantasy, Sci-Fi and YA but i'm prone to pick up psychological thrillers, mysteries and horrors for variety.

For 2018 I'm hoping to double my goal this year of 25 and read 50 next year

Hi Abbie, welcome to the group! I really love those genres myself too although I'm reading other genres too, so as to clear my old TBR books that have been gathering dust on my bookshelf.

Great to have you in the group Elena. Glad to hear you're coming out of your reading slump. I know how frustrating that can be. Good luck setting your goal for 2018!

Roberta | 1 comments Hello, my name is Roberta and I am new to the group.

I live in Southwest Texas and I love to read and I read a variety of books! As weird as it sounds I love to read a good cookbook that has great stories, I also enjoy mysteries and cozy mysteries that have good recipes in them like Diana Mott Davidson. I am also an avid fan of Lara Adrian books, they are just the best.

I found the group by accident actually, for this year I set a goal of 85 books and I've read 77 so far. Many are cookbooks so I don't know if they really count but I have tried some really good recipes! I am not sure what my goal will be for next year, it might be 85 again but I am considering not including cookbooks next year, not sure yet though....

message 64: by Anne (new)

Anne | 2 comments Hi! I'm Anne and I'm from Philippines.

I really love to read ever since I was a child. Fantasy novels are my all time favorite and I'm currently in love with Victoria Aveyard's Red Queen Series!

I literally want to make friends so I searched some groups and I joined up here.

My reading goal is to read atleast 10 books before 2018 comes. Well mostly, fantasy novels. (can someone suggest?)

Hoping that we can all be friends! :)

P.S: Who's a fan of Red Queen series here? Hi! haha

message 65: by Mythrayee (new)

Mythrayee | 11 comments Hi,
I am Mythrayee from India. I like to read mystery, romance and thrillers. I am not so active on Good reads as I have a toddler to deal with, and half of my day goes in managing him. So this year I set it to only 5 books which I usually read after he sleeps. I am already participating in December monthly read. Planning to read more books in 2018.

message 66: by Brittany (new)

Brittany | 804 comments Hello everyone! I am Brittany from Manitoba, Canada. I will pretty much read anything I can get my hands on but I am partial to fantasy.
I like having places to keep track of what I am reading and talk and get recommendations from other readers.
I am at 54 books for the current year and thinking I will aim for 60 for 2018!

message 67: by Valerie (new)

Valerie (vintage_book_luv) Hi everyone! I'm Valerie from Pittsburgh, PA. I like to read a variety of genres. Hi Im Julianne I am from Illinois in the United States of America. I really like fantasy and paranormal books but I also read a bit of contemporary YA. Sometimes i read horror books if they interest me. And I almost always read a book that is turned into a movie.

One of my goodreads friends recommended the group to me so we can do reading challenges together so I am pretty excited. I just started seriously doing reading challenges this past year.

For 2018 my goal is to read about 125 books. I read more this past year but i had a lot of down time throughout the year to read. hopefully next year will be a bit busier for me.

Hi Kristin! Thank you for suggesting those lovely fantasy novels, I will certainly read them. It's amazing that you have connections from Philippines but unfortunately I'm kinda not familiar with some Filipino authors since I was raised reading English novels. Hehe, I know some but it is translated with our mother tongue language only (Tagalog).

P.S: Since you love fantasy novels too, try reading Red Queen series. ;)

message 78: by Kim (new)

Kim Williamson | 3 comments Hi everyone!
My name is Kim and I'm from Huntington WV. I've always been a reader. When I was young my parents signed me up for things like the Disney book club and then teen Doubleday book club. I also had the resources of a local library at the end of my street. I love my library!!!!
I had been in a slump for awhile. Divorced mom of two doesn't leave you much time for reading. Also our library hours are not the greatest for someone who works a full time day shift job. A couple of years ago I discovered Overdrive through my library and it has changed my life. I can read from my phone anywhere! I also last year discovered the fantastic podcast What Should I Read Next, which gives me so many new books to add to my TBR mountain.
I can read just about anything except horror. Celeb biographies from the 80's backwards are my guilty pleasures.
My goal for this year is 40 books. I'm also doing the PopSugar reading challenge.
Looking forward to sharing the year with all of you.

message 79: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Z (lcottrell14) Hello. My name is Lauren.

I am from Wisconsin but I moved to the Twin Cities about a year ago now.

I am working towards a Masters degree in Library and Information Science. I currently work in an academic library but I would like to be a school librarian.

I read a ton of YA, but I also am willing to try anything. I used only read one book at once, but lately I have quite a few going at a time. This helps me get through more nonfiction. Like several other members I also have recently started listening to audiobooks and love it. I also really support the #OwnVoices movement and try to read books by diverse authors who are members of the diverse group their characters belong to.

A few years ago I made the commitment to every year read at least the number of book of my age. In 2018 I'll be 25, but I think I will do quite a few more. For my classes I should read at least 50 books. In 2017, I read over 100, so I would like to keep up the reading.

message 80: by Carol (new)

Carol Crosier Hi~ I am Carol and I am from the United States. I read lots of contemporary fiction and lots of narrative nonfiction and memoir. I would like to read 100 books in 2018. I am hoping to read at least one classic or award winner a month. I'd also like to read more widely across genres. I have always wanted to try the Popsugar Reading Challenge!

message 81: by Susy (new)

Susy (susysstories) Welcome Kim, Lauren and Carol! Great to have you in the group! There are some great challenges and I also like the buddy and group reads a lot. Have a look around. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask!

Daniel C | 11 comments Hello fellow Goodreaders

I am Daniel from Malaysia. I read mostly nonfiction (self-help and leadership) books, average about 26 books per year. i saw someone saying they have or aim to read over 100 books annually and I really admire their reading speed and goal.

I joined Goodreads over 2 years ago and didn't realize this group thingy until today.

Happy reading!

Welcome Daniel! I only discovered this group at the beginning of 2017 but had joined GR some years before too. I have enjoyed being a member of this group very much: they have some awesome challenges and I really like to participate in de the group and buddy reads too, although maybe for you they're less interesting seeing that you read mostly non-fiction (but have a look, you never know). You may want to have a look at the non-fiction challenge, you may like that one, if you're interested in joining any challenges that is. That's so great about this group: you can join any challenge, read or discussion/chat you like, but only if you're up to it, nothing is obligatory!
If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.
Good luck with you goal and happy reading to you too!

✺Zen Orchid ✺ | 31 comments Hi I'm Orchid. I discovered this group hoping to join more book based book clubs. Next year in 2018 I want to read 150 books. I'm sure I have read more than 100 books this year but unluckily I haven't kept track well. I like exploring new genres, though my favorites are mystery, psychological thriller, horror, science-fiction, historical-fiction, and classics. I like buddy reads but group reads are cool also!
Hi again and happy reading!

message 87: by Susy (new)

message 88: by Valerie (last edited Dec 11, 2017 02:05AM) (new)

Valerie (vintage_book_luv) Hi everyone! I'm Valerie from Pittsburgh, PA (go Steelers!). I found you through a member of @ModernMrsDarcy, and I was very excited about it, because if there is a medium where I can find great books to read I'm all in!

I read a variety of genres, I was stuck on just psyhcological thrillers and police procedurals, which I became bored with and I wanted to broaden my horizons - that's how I found MMD - it changed my reading life. Now I read just about anything - except romance - don't ask me to read it. Now, a good love story, that's a different subject and a completely different genre. I like a good family saga, and chunky, epic novels, HF, literature, I'm not big on bestsellers (as they often disappoint) - although the backlists, I find are often much better. I like books that are off the beaten path. I like a good series and I mean GOOD. I'm working my way through the classics, and adding biography/memoirs to my list. And I love great literary fiction.

My reading goal this coming year (2018) is 65 books.

message 89: by Inkeri (new)

Inkeri | 118 comments Hi!
My name is Inkeri and I live in a city called Espoo, in Finland. I enjoy reading mysteries and humorous fiction. I've started to get into historical fiction as well. I also like fantasy and sci-fi if I'm in the correct mood.

I found this group from the Goodreads community tab. I was looking for a group where I could track and discuss all the books I'm reading in 2018, and where I could get some book recommendations as well. I think this group might fit the description quite perfectly.

My 2018 reading goal is 25 books.

Marie | 40 comments Hello everyone! Im Marie and Im from Denmark.
I like to read all kinds of books, though mainly fantasy, si-fi and mystery.
Im relatively new to Goodreads and would like to finally have a clear picture of how many books I actually read during the year! Also to have someone to give motivation when I get stuck with reading a book... It may or may not have happened too often..
For 2018 I will be setting a somewhat unrealistic goal of 100 books with the dream of reading most of the books that I already own.

message 93: by Sibil (new)

Sibil | 9 comments Hello! :)

I'm Sibil, from Italy and I love to read fantasy (all kind of) and thriller, but I read almost anything, to be honest.
I found this group thanks to a post on my home page... one of my friends joined some challenges here and it seemed so interesting!
I used to read a lot but this year I won't complete the yearly Goodread's Challenge, because my reading time is considerably diminished :( So for 2018 I would try with a realistic goal and set for 100 books,

I like to read everything I can get my hands on but I specially like to read about World War II, science fiction and science.

Hi Marie, welcome! You've come to the right place! This year was my first year doing a challenge while trying to get back into reading and I couldn't have done it without all my fellow readers in this group who as you say, gave me motivation to hang in there but also made reading an even more enjoyable activity than it already was, by reading some books together and discussing it. Also the challenges helped me a lot. I hope you'll enjoy the group as much as I have. If you have any questions please don't hesitate to ask. Hi Sibil, welcome! Fantasy and thrillers, two of my favourite genres too! So you have set a "more realistic goal"? A 100 books? What was your goal for this year if I may ask?? I find a 100 reads very impressive. If only I would read that much, maybe my TBR list wouldn't be growing so fast lol.
I hope you'll enjoy the group as much as I have. Take a look around; there are some great challenges you might want to join. Also the group and buddy reads are awesome to participate in. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask ok?

Hi Masielo, welcome to the group!
Just one more book to reach your goal, that's awesome, congratulations! Cutting it down to 50 sounds like a good plan. Reading should be about enjoying ourselves and the stories we get to 'experience', not about quantity. Something I have to keep reminding myself of (being a slow reader).
Wishing you the best of luck with your goal for 2018 but above all of course Happy Reading!!

Thank you! :) I used to read more than 200 books every year (I really had a lot of time to read in the past years, so I made good use of it!) but I am sorry to say that this doesn't help with the TBR. It's a sentient being that grow by itself and you simply can't stop it!!!! :(

Erin Sobkow | 1 comments Hi!

I have never joined a reading group before but love to read. I was just clicking around and found this group - thought it looked great.

I am from Saskatchewan, Canada and am a mom to 3 kids: aged 12, 10 and 8. I work full -time as our District Sport, Culture & Recreation Community Consultant (1 year) and have been a Registered Massage Therapist for 18 years. I had to change jobs because massage therapy wrecks your own body but I still do a bit on the side because I still love it.

My interests right now are...... chauffeuring my kids to their various sports and activities!! but I still always find the time to read (usually for a bit before bed).

I will read any genre if the book is good but especially love fiction, drama, romance, historical fiction, biographies, classic literature.

If anyone has read any great books about sport, rec, culture or massage therapy, please let me know.

Looking forward to some good reads in 2018.

Erin
