Which new releases are you most looking forward to?
I just remembered that my most anticipated upcoming release is The Fall of Babel by Josiah Bancroft. The Books of Babel series to me is one of the best and most refreshing fantasy series in recent years and I think book 4 was originally supposed to be released this year but I just saw that its expected publication is now November 2021. TOO LONG!I hope Bancroft doesn't pull a Patrick Rothfuss/George R.R. Martin....
I just found out yesterday that Tchaikovsky has a sequel to Dogs of War coming out in 2021: Bear Head. Fingers crossed that this one is easier to get a hold of in the US...
Well, I don't know anything about this, but I'm VERY excited to get my hands on it! Too bad I have to wait until September :(Nettle & Bone by T. Kingfisher
I got super excited when I read in the Tor.com newsletter that they'll be publishing five books by Andrea Hairston. It looks like three of those will be republished works, but two are new? Coming in 2024 :S
if you've pre-ordered Remote Control by Nnedi Okorafor, you can get a free enamel pin from Tor by submitting a receipt here:https://read.macmillan.com/promo/torr...
Some upcoming stuff I just added to my TBR:Sorrowland by Rivers Solomon
Iron Goddess of Mercy by Larissa Lai
One Day All This Will Be Yours by Adrian Tchaikovsky
The Hidden Palace by Helene Wecker
Sorrowland looks very interesting; adding that to my TBR.One that I am excited for is She Who Became the Sun
I just learned that AT will be narrating One Day All This Will Be Yours himself. Yes, me, me, gimme!! (*and off she goes - leaving the field to the sane ones ...*)
Oh, and I forgot S.G. Prince has the last in the Elvish trilogy coming out, which is called "Ember". Goodreads doesn't want to link it for some reason.
Actually, Wanderers of a Mortal Kind is supposed to be out in November, which is the sequel to Fate of the Fallen. I wish she'd finish the King's Dark Tidings series, too! I've been waiting a while for that.
The Tangleroot Palace: Stories by Marjorie Liu!!! <3This, and many other titles, found from the Winter 2021 BIPOC SFF Title List.
Black Water Sister has a new cover. I think I liked the old one better? This edition still has the old cover as I'm typing this.
Anna wrote: "Black Water Sister has a new cover. I think I liked the old one better? This edition still has the old cover as I'm typing this."I like the new one slightly better. Overly colorful covers make me think of gardening/cooking books LOL

you had my hopes up - I thought this was part of Elizabeth Moon's Paladin's Legacy series

Oh, YAY! I just pre-ordered it. Thanks for the tip, Anna!!
XD I just learned that there is a fifth (!) Adrian Tchaikovsky book scheduled for release this year: Elder Race - I guess this year I don't need to read any other author XD
Gabi wrote: "XD I just learned that there is a fifth (!) Adrian Tchaikovsky book scheduled for release this year: Elder Race - I guess this year I don't need to read any other author XD"it's not out until November, but it is $3.99 on pre-order

So keen for this one myself! Getting excited about all the special editions :D
Drop everything! Swordheart is out in audio! Today! Right now!I'm not crying, you're crying! I needed it! Now I just have to spend a couple of hours going back and forth deciding if I spend a credit on it or just buy it with the reduced price because I have the Kindle edition, and then I can fall asleep tonight to Swordheart!
<3
My only sample grumble is that the narrator sounds too young, but maybe it'll be OK.
It's also on Storytel!!!!!

I'm very interested in this, too! Maybe we can BR it around the end of the year?

I didn't buy it, because the Minor Mage audiobook was so horrible and I had doubts about this one. Since it's on Storytel, I decided to listen first, then buy if I like it. And ... I don't know :/
The narrator isn't bad, just completely wrong for the book. She's way too young, and the voices she's doing for all non-Halla characters are not only so wrong, but some of them are completely cringy. Sarkis has a pseudo Scottish accent! :S He sounds like he wants to be Lord Maccon (from Soulless), and he *really* didn't give me Scottish werewolf vibes when I eye-read the book <_<
It's a shame that so many T. Kingfisher books either aren't on audio or have horrible narrators :( I would love to listen to all of them all the time. I understand that it's probably harder to do audio for self-pub books, but I'd rather have no audio than a horrible one like MM!
I can't wait for Nettle & Bone! It's trad-pub non-horror, so I'm expecting the audio to be good!
Ah - I eye read minor mage so I’ve no idea. Did recently listen to Bryony which a a few things I didn’t love about it but wasn’t bad altogether. It’s hard once characters get a solid feel in ones head to hear or see something different. Also Halla being an older widow is pretty important! That would annoy me.
I’m a big lord Macon fan but I agree that’s not what I would have expected (cause there were no little phrases like lass or dinna... )
Anna wrote: "... re: Swordheart audio ..."My wife is listening to this and has some of the same reservations. She was puzzled by the choice of a narrator who sounds far too young for Halla and pretty annoyed by initial voice for Sarkis. She's a ways in now and says that she's "getting used to it" but in a tone that tells me that she would likely have been happier eye reading it again instead. Oops.
Raucous wrote: "she's "getting used to it" but in a tone that tells me that she would likely have been happier eye reading it again instead"Yes!
It's not exactly ruining the book, but I'm not loving it like I should be.
Paladin's Grace coming on audio! April 6th!It's on Storytel.
Read by a dude, not sure how I feel about that, but I guess it's Stephen's book as much as Grace's :)
This better be better.
edit: Sampling other books read by this narrator, his voice is super deep and gravely, which is something I can't listen to. I'm going to have pay someone to sit beside my bed and read T. Kingfisher books to me every night.
Tantor, why do you hate me? :(
OMG OMG OMG !!!Spirits Abroad is coming on audio in August, narrated by EWZ! (That's Emily Woo Zeller. Yes, I had to write it this way. Just go with it.)
I can't see a Kindle edition of this book on sale at all, but I know a new edition is coming, so maybe there'll also be a new ebook edition with more stories? I'll buy all new editions in all formats as soon as they're available! <3
Nnedi Okorafor has a new novel coming out in November, and as per usual, it sounds awesome: NoorAnna, here's the US link for the Kindle version of Spirits Abroad, which is available next week: https://www.amazon.com/Spirits-Abroad...
The Rise and Fall of D.O.D.O. has a sequel that just came out;Master of the Revels by Nicole Galland (she was co-author of D.O.D.O.
A Desolation Called Peace by Arkady Martine comes out May 11th. I just read and really liked the first book, A Memory Called Empire, so I guess I'll pick up the new one when it's here :)
I have Spirits, the old Kindle edition and the even older paperback edition, but that new one isn't available for me. Good to know it's available for someone! I guess I'll have to wait until August to get the audio, but that's fine. Three different editions, both in format and content :)And yay for more Okorafor!
MadProfessah wrote: "@Jan where are you? A DESOLATION CALLED PEACE has been out for several weeks in the USA."OK, thanks for the info. I'm In Australia. Usually kindle books are released here on the same date as US and elsewhere, but occasionally not, as clearly in this case.......... dunno why.........
I may sneak a look at a few US reviews, then, although I want to avoid spoilers.
Not a new book, but the audiobook of the third book of the Arcane Ascension series by Andrew Rowe comes out May 11th.
No links because they haven't been (completely) written yet, but UVernon/TKingfisher twitter confirms there will be at least THREE more Paladin books! Next up is Galen, as we already knew, and then Shane and Wren. We're all going to be swimming in paladin romances!
Anna wrote: "... We're all going to be swimming in paladin romances!"So... Are all of the books in this part of T. Kingfisher's writing universe romances? I recently read Clockwork Boys, am currently listening to Swordheart, and my spouse describes the paladin books as (view spoiler). It's made me wonder. Not that I'm complaining...
I'd love to see another sword book too!

I dug a bit more and though it looks short to me, Tor seems to be calling it a novel. So maybe it will be more meaty.
