Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Still struggling with this cold, really breathless today, am wondering if it has turned into a chest infection/bronchitis. Luckily the dentist has agreed to give me antibiotics for my sore tooth, so hopefully they will help my chest too, am getting a sore throat from coughing. Probably not going to get time to pick up the prescription and get to the chemist though. Traffic was still bad, but at least we have blue skies today, although it was only 4 on the way to work. Got so much to do and struggling to decide where to start! At least we have cake today.

Do hope your daughter is OK today Lynne, being sent home bleeding doesn’t sound good. Bless your grandson. Good luck choosing paint colours Alicia, I hate it - went too dark with the bathroom but cant' be bothered changing it!

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Afty! Big shop this morning as family coming for the weekend. Editing etc this aft. Sunny here but bitingly cold.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Morning all, glad things are peachy.

It’s chuffing cold here, just waiting for McMini to burst in from school! So not morning any more then.

Have been sorting out more parents stuff. Dad’s assets are now gone so before we start on Mum’s I want him evaluated and to see if there is any chance of local authority, or even NHS contributions to his care. It’s a mine field though. Lots of interaction with Age concern and a lot of reading but I know what to say when we ring the lady from Social Services tomorrow, now, anyway!

Yes, to confirm, ear spoon for wax removal is what I hoped. Finding an object designed for such a repulsive purpose would be brilliant! Sadly I’m pretty certain not now ... the ‘spoon’ end is a bit too jaggy I suspect.

With that lovely thought I must dash as I have to revamp Space Dustmen so I can start work on it again.

Cheers

MTM

Hope she is okay. Did they say what to do if she's in bad shape? That doesn't seem safe.

I'm used to being careful - I grew up in Mexico City, and water was erratic some times - plus it's a Girl Guide thing to be responsible. My sister used to keep a bucket in the shower for the cold water that comes out before it gets to the right temperature, and more than once needed that to rinse the shampoo out or flush the toilet.

Drives me crazy when people just let the tap run for no reason - every drop of water in our pipes is fit to drink, and has been processed to get it to be that clean.

But I still panic when the water stops. We stored five gallons in New Jersey, and I still remember filling the tub before Hurricane Sandy!

Oh, and colours picked: I paid for sitting on the floor too long, but the job got done. Process of elimination, mostly. I have a good amateur eye, just find the one that clashes the least and doesn't make my head hurt.

Watch that breathless feeling, Desley. Don't let it get too bad before they make sure it's not pneumonia - it takes a while for meds to kick in. The right antibiotic might be a different one - or the one you're getting might indeed get both! Hope so.

Dentist gave me amoxycillin which is normally what the doc starts with, so should be OK. Must order a new inhaler though, checked mine after using it and its out of date.

Glad you have picked colours, even if you are paying the price. Good luck with social services MT

Whew.
Sorry if I missed anyone.
Nice day here that turned to rain in the afternoon. I was doing notices for the golf club before going to a meeting there this afternoon. I'm sure I did something else as well. Oh yes, pulled nettles out of the flower beds.
It's my life, and I live it...

I don't expect spring here for a few months.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Eh up! Mild so far here so nothing has really stopped growing including the lawns.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments My chest is worse today, but I did remember I had a new inhaler in the cupboard, so swapped them last night. Traffic was bad last night, so decided to get my prescription from Asda, I needed 2 things and came back with 7, although 3 were for my neighbour, and I did stop myself buying things just because they were on offer. Struggled to get up this morning, my cough kept me up last night. Was -1 this morning, set off early to scrape the car and forgot my phone! The trustee is supposed to be coming at 7 to do the paperwork for the girls, she actually said paperwork/adoption fee, which I’m not happy about seeing as they’ve had practically free care in the 16 months I’ve fostered them.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Gingerlily - Weird and Silly wrote: "You don't have a UPS?"

I have given that some serious thought. By my calculation, I would need.

One for the main server.
One for the main NAS
One for Sophie's NAS
One for the main network switch
One for the wireless router
One for the second switch

The other problem is that most UPS's are only good for about 15 minutes. So, providing that Linda is not out shopping, she will be able to shut everything down in an orderly manner.

I'm now wondering about a generator.

Good afternoon everyone.

Did the new inhaler help?

I usually let things go too far because I hate going to the doctor and wondering if they're going to order a lot of tests, each of which will take a huge amount of energy and time (for me); on occasion I really wish I'd gone in sooner.

If you sit in a car park for long enough, a bloke in a white van will be past to sell you one.... (works round here, anyway0

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Paperwork signed for the girls, although I don’t have their chip/vacc details, between the upset of Sooty (neighbour has been told he likely has cancer and not long, I love him like he's mine) and dealing with paperwork, I didn’t have a proper tea, so woke up with a headache and feeling generally down, although had a lovely purry Chanel trying to cheer me up. Didn’t seem that cold this morning, but car said 0, is now foggy again. Yesterday my legs kept feeling like jelly after simple things like walking upstairs, but that seems better today, as does my cough. Forgot to mention yesterday, I needed to scrape the car, sprayed it and then tried to remember where the scraper was, gave up after a few minutes and used a store card instead, was telling a colleague as we were leaving the office and it dawned on me that I took it into the house to de-ice the freezer! Now back in the car!

Not sure Alicia, wasn’t breathless yesterday so didn’t use it, yesterday my legs kept feeling like jelly after simple things like walking upstairs. I’m really bad at leaving docs too late, have been shouted at a couple of times.

Patti, what Jim said.

Sorry to hear about Sooty, Desley but glad you are feeling less breathless. I hope the wobbliness disappears too.

Kitty didn't want me to go to work this morning, she wanted to stay with me all day and wished it was the weekend. Then she happily waved me out the door. We're both feeling the TGIF feeling today.

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Thanks for the good wishes about Mum and Dad.

Mum and I had a lovely chat to a lady from social services over the phone on Wednesday. Now we have to wait for the assessors to give us a ring and book a time to see us. That should be some time next week I suspect and I’ll try to arrange it so they come on a Wednesday so I’m there to talk to them too.

Cheers

Looking forward to son and family arriving for the weekend. Includes grandson. Tired already!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Tried sleeping in my plantar fasciitis socks, ended up with really twitchy legs that stopped me sleeping, so won’t do that again! Didn’t want to get up again this morning, and it was still slightly foggy. Knees are really sore this morning, suspect it’s my shoes, glad I only have a couple of bits to do after work. Thought I was feeling better till I just walked up the stairs, really congested now, although not sure my gum is improving!

Thanks Alicia, I certainly do! Thought I was feeling better till I just walked up the stairs, really congested now, although not sure my gum is improving! Aww, bless Kitty! Fingers crossed the assessors can come on the day you are there MT

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Bollocks. Bit of a pisser today. Sent a Christmas card to a lovely chap who was my boss many years ago. Didn’t send one last year, didn’t send many. Got a message from his wife today to tell me he died in March. He was a lovely fellow. Me and everyone else who worked for him would have happily complied if he’d asked us to lie down in traffic for him. I am sad that I didn’t get to pay my respects or go to his funeral, and extra sad that I must have caused his wife and daughter pain by writing his name in their card (whether I knew about it or not).

He was only 62. He had a lung infection and a lot of operations. I just feel a bit shit. If you’ve read my books and you want to know what he was like, I based Phillip Softone on him - especially the description.

People do start dying a lot when you hit your forties and fifties don’t they? In that respect, there’s a lot to be said for having kids late. They are so up beat.

Have you managed to get yourself referred for podiatry? I have it, plus knee bollocks, and I wear insoles that have saved my chuffing bacon. If you can get an evaluation it’s worth it. The insoles are horrifically expensive to buy so you want to get them on the NHS if you can but my goodness they are wonderful. You have to work at them though, wear them a little bit and increase it each day until you can wear them all the time.

So sorry to hear about your former boss, and what a shock it is to find out that someone not old has gone on. So much wasted potential, it seems.
