Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Desley said Todays task is tidying the bedroom, won't do a proper job with the wardrobe though, still feel full of a cold and lack energy but will at least put all the gift bags away, they obviously bred over Christmas.

Hah! That was my task for yesterday too! Didn't do it because I also had the task of cleaning up my office and that took ages and then there was... oh you know...

Mince pies - I ran out last Saturday. Sigh. And I haven't got any sweet mincemeat to make any - besides, today is a writing day and that's a good excuse. Better get started!!!!

Happy and healthy new year to you all.

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Happy new year, everyone!

Looks to be off to a nice quiet start.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Happy New Year! Hope it is a good one for everyone, and that those who had a hard 2018 have a better 2019 x

I don't do resolutions, but am trying to not buy things just because. I'm looking forward to a good year of reading, and interested to see what life without voluntary work is like. After waking up and feeding the cats, I got a nice lie in. Not sure I have the energy for my usual New Years Day walk, today's task is easy, dealing with the ironing pile while watching TV. Hopefully the year starting dry is a good sign.

Glad the dogs weren't bothered by fireworks Lynne, ours started around 7 but very intermittent. Enjoy your neighbours, we are having a bit of a Sunday tea. Not starting the diet just yet, still too much food to get through!

David Hadley Happy New Year everyone

✿Claire✿ (clairelm) | 2602 comments Happy New Year everyone. Spent the day in work yesterday and the evening down on the quayside for the fireworks. First time I've been to a fireworks NYE event and I really enjoyed it.
Hope 2019's a good one for you all :)

I've just had a couple of very noisy hours with a hedge trimmer.

Jim | 21812 comments I'm milking this afternoon so somebody else can have a day off :-)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Happy New Year

I still have the damn cold. Keeps looking likes it's on the way out, then rushes back and floors me. Now I have a frozen shoulder and neck. I can't win right now!

Husband has taken the decorations down so we'll be back to normal once they're put back in the loft.

Sorry you are still poorly, hope you are better soon

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments I’ve over nibbled next door. I’m stuffed and OH wants a steak dinner. I’ve persuaded him to walk the dogs first then perhaps I’ll have room for more food. I also feel slightly fuddled so I don’t care much either way 😄😄

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Happy New Year, all!

The sun shone today so I made the most of it.

I'm pleased I'll be back to wearing sandals in a few days.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Ironing done, and despite needing to sit down after, I made myself go for a walk as the sun was shining. Walked round the park, and an old couple went to stop for me to get past, I said I was happy to amble (didn't have the energy to walk quicker!), so ended up chatting to the the rest of the way round, it's what I like about where I live, you can have random conversations, and especially on New Years Day. Popped to the shop for something my neighbour forgot, came home to make a cup of tea to discover the milk was out of date, so went back to the shop. Wiped out now.

When do you go back Patti?

message 9213: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4841 comments New Year's brunch in an hour with some of our new friends.

Then maybe the fooding will settle down.

This place had a party - until 9pm! (It was midnight in New York City, so that served). We didn't go - hope everyone enjoyed it. Husband was doing tax paperwork almost the whole day, and has been fighting off a cold, so he slept until a few minutes ago, and caught up a bit.

I understand, Desley - the random conversations here are a big part of the charm.

Hope everyone's new year is a peaceful and profitable one.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Enjoy your brunch Alicia

Happy New Year, Elizabeth - and may your adjustments be over soon. I'm getting pretty tired of mine, and they were all for the better.

We leave on Friday.

Hopefully an easier trip back than it was getting here.

Better airline and not so many road trips.

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments First day back at work and I feel like utter arse.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Morning all, glad I'm not back in work today, still don't feel great with this cold. No plans other than boring housework like hoovering. Might try and drag neighbour out for a walk this afternoon

Hope your adjustments go smoothly Elizabeth.

message 9222: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. First day back at work and everyone's looking the worse for wear.

message 9223: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Hope the workers keeping our country going get a special boost of energy and... er... some chocolate, maybe chocolate, extra special chocolate today (or your own version of something nice).

And peace, perfect peace for those experiencing stressful changes.

And for everyone else, may today's wish come true (ooh, be careful).

As for me? I overslept! Ended up dashing around and lurching into doors and stuff.

message 9224: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! Oh, Anna, take care with the lurching!
Off today for a walk in one of the Hull parks after which we will undo the good work by having a fish and chip lunch. Balance, that's the thing.

message 9225: by Jim (new)

Jim | 21812 comments One of the joys of not having a Christmas break is you don't have the grim return to work :-)

Here it's actually bright and sunny, but looking east we can see thick cloud and gloom over England.
Metaphorical as well as actual by the sound of it :-)

message 9226: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments It's bright and sunny here, too, Jim.

Not at the desk, obviously where the looming tax deadline is casting a cloud of gloom.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Sun is shining here, too.

Right in my face. Think I'll lower the blind a bit.

message 9228: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments You have sun? You lucky lot!

message 9229: by M.T. (new)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments We’ve had sun and rain because we’re East Anglian and we’re weird. It was all cold and brisk. Picked up the cat today. He’s delighted to be home and we’re really chuffed to have him back, too. Luckily, after an afternoon in town, McMini and I were home early enough to wipe the muddy footprints off the work surfaces before McOther gets home.

Right, off to make a lasagna now.

Cheers

MTM

message 9230: by Lisa (new)

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments There was hardly a spot of rain in Lincolnshire this morning. We started 2019 with a bus ride into town, a visit to the bank, breakfast at the cafe, a broken washing machine and a double Wild Turkey on the rocks. Oh well... hand-washing until Tuesday, but who cares. (HIC!) Hope everyone else is doing OK, feeling better and not having funky appliance issues :)

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments Balls! I forgot to say Happy New Year.

Happy New Year everyone.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Lovely to see you Geoff!

Good morning!

I've been up since 2:30. Guess I shan't have much difficulty getting my body clock sorted for next week.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Ah well, another day in paradise for me.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning each - and welcome back Geoff!
It's the first Cake Club of the year and I've made a chocolate orange cake. I hope it tastes as good as it smells. Catch you later.

message 9240: by Anna (new)

Anna Faversham (annafaversham) | 1752 comments Hi Geoff, good to see you back. You're not the only one who disappears from time to time. I do too - not because I want to. We could start our own mystery theme - what happens to UKAKF members when they disappear?

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments They slip into the elephant dimension of course!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments Well, not sure what to do with myself today - could probably find something to do housework wise but it doesn't appeal! Neighbour suggested going to Costco and maybe getting some food, also doesn't appeal, but at least gets me out of the house for a bit. Might go for a walk too, but it seems quite cold out, and I still have a cold - it's going on my chest and making me a bit breathless.

Are you going to post more Geoff? Poor you Patti!

message 9244: by Jud (new)

Jud (judibud) | 16799 comments Happy New Year!

We've started taking our decorations down but both trees are still up. I want them down asap, would have done it yesterday but Gareth didn't want to.

Back to work today and now that I've caught up on the 255 posts from over the festive period I have nothing to do for the day. Will have to go for coffee shortly. Our kitchen is being replaced so we have no kitchen facilities available on our floor.

Hope everyone is well and those with colds start feeling better soon.

message 9245: by Benjamin (new)

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning, everyone. We're leaving taking the decorations down until the weekend.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12606 comments I'm taking the decorations down on Sat, although a couple of cards fell over when hoovering so they went in the bin. Sorry you have no work Jud

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments End of holiday flat cleaning for us today.

Woohoo.

message 9248: by Darren (new)

Darren Humphries (darrenhf) | 6903 comments Totally look the living room apart and put it back together again yesterday. This is my year of decluttering and I have several piles of clutter on the floor waiting for the first of several runs to the charity shops. Mainly books on art, history and geography that haven't been opened since my wife died and toys that haven't been played with by the kids since just about forever. Off to look for a new sofa today.

Hope your plans are more exciting and fun.

Geoff (G. Robbins) (merda constat variat altitudo) (snibborg) | 8204 comments Bonus this morning, didn't have to scrape the ice off the windscreen. Rumours of snow are starting to surface, dammit.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments I need a new sofa too. This one is in a dreadful state.
