Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Little crispy bits here but they're melting as the day progresses. I'm catching up on reviews. DiL progressing much better for being able to sleep properly!

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments No snow here either, and the vicious wind has gone. Rather pleasant day actually.
Off out for Christmas lunch with the art group. Going by bus - it's in a nice hotel in a rural town, two-hourly service - so that I can indulge properly! :)

G J (Gaff to my friends) Reilly | 1836 comments Frosty in the valley today, but I didn't even have to scrape the windscreen down this morning. Chances of snow are slim to none. Mostly teaching Welsh today, so I'll be about ready for the weekend by the time 3.30 comes around!

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Glad that the DIL is recovering so well, Kath

Must be a great relief

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Whether it was the fact she was running late, or the pug that we walked past, but Lucy was in a really bad mood, took 3 of us to get blood from her, and we ended up having to use a really odd position to work round her!! She tolerated the acupuncture fine, but made the mistake of turning my back on her, so she jumped down and squeezed in a small gap, she was that squashed I couldn’t scruff her. Vet walked out of the room and left me to it!! Then she had a poo, so was trying not to drag her through that! Eventually got her out with no blood drawn, fortunately she didn’t hold a grudge when we got home. It is 1 here today, but the whitest it has been all week. Electrician has apparently fixed the heating, but we had to get the boiler checked as there was a smell of gas!!

Good news, Kath! Wee munchkin must be pleased to have mum home, too.
Will they stay with you for a bit?

You'll be making the bus stink of gin on the way home. Tsk.

Hope it went well.

I could teach Welsh, easy.
I've covered Spanish, Azeri, Russian and French over the years so Welsh would be a doddle.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hope the office is warm next week, Desley. I expect you'll be complaining it's too hot.
I had the window in my classroom open today. Not because it was too hot. I had to let the teenager stink out. Eww.

Waiting for the dough I've had in the fridge to warm up, then gonna make pizzas. May as well have a glass of wine while I wait.
Just one or we'll end up with pizza with corners.

They're back at home in Scarborough. When Jim goes back to work next week they'll stay with her mum who lives not far away. Then home at weekends. That'll be until she manages to get around without the crutches.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Do they reckon she's sorted and it's just healing now?
I hope so.

We've got a kid at school who has gone through the same sort of corrective surgery and is back to having pins in her leg again.

message 814: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments They said so, yes. She's got 35 days' worth of a strong antibiotic to take, and they packed the hole they'd made with an antibiotic material too.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Kath wrote: "They said so, yes. She's got 35 days' worth of a strong antibiotic to take, and they packed the hole they'd made with an antibiotic material too."

She will probably need further packings when the antibiotic ones have been removed (usually a week) - but hopefully it can now move forward. Depending on the size of the hole and her healing capabilities - hopefully she's on the home run now. ;-)

My poor Niece on the other hand is in dire straits...... she saw the Consultant yesterday and her brain tumour has increased in size again and she is facing further radiotherapy and probably more surgery. She says she is scared sh**less at the thought of that, as it has to be done with her awake! On top of this she had a message from the Home where my Sister (her Mum) is - to say that she's not responding to the antibiotics for her chest infection and they're waiting for the ambulance to take her to hospital.

message 818: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh heck. That sounds bad, Flo.

The packing is inside the bone they cut open. It must dissolve as they've stitched it all inside and it's healing well.

message 819: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Flo, your poor niece is having a terrible time.

Kath, hope your DIL is doing well.

I have so many things to do that I'm frozen .... I just don't know what to do next. I'm going to let it all go for tonight and have some lovely fish stew and a glass of wine. I'll worry about the to-do list tomorrow. In the scheme of things, when you hear of the dreadful issues some people are facing, it's nothing at all.

No snow in Jersey. We only usually have snow every few years (actually, years go by and we don't get a sniff.) Being Scottish, I do miss it.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments My girl had better news, at last they have identified her infection it’s a rare one and she said the microbiologist hadn’t heard of it. She’s got an open wound with a pump and may be allowed home like that on new antibiotics.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Bit of good news here. Our friend who flew out for breast cancer treatment is doing really well and should be back mid February.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, Alicia, I’m convinced she’s had it since she had a keyhole gall bladder op a couple of years ago. She didn’t heal then either for months. The ‘keyhole’ was more of a cat-flap. She’s not been well properly since. I wonder if it’s one of those bugs than lie dormant until the next trauma. Its a rare form of arcanobacterium, and that means hidden doesn’t it. I don’t expect it to be reported as years ago my MIL had VRMRSA. My neighbour was our GP and he told my husband there were no cases in the UK. Husband told him what drugs she was on, sent from America and he said he’d look it up, he came up against a brick wall. My MIL was over 90 and they asked her permission to write it up in the medical journals as she was the oldest person with it and to have that drug. There’s quite a lot of things the powers that be do not want you to know.

It’s quite mild here now, they’ve had snow in the south of France. My neighbour sent me a mail. Snow chains etc obligatory at 500 metres and the village is 550m.
Have a good weekend all.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Morning all, I knew yesterday was going to be busy, but was more hectic than anticipated and had to work late. Then had the good sense to drop the car off last night, and went to the chemist on the way back. Had a good time, even though I wasn't in the mood. Housework while I wait for the car to be ready, then petrol and food shopping. It's light switch on today, will hopefully have time to go before ticketing/sorting 100 chocolate prizes for the tombola tomorrow.

Glad they have finally found out what infection it is Lynne, do hope it responds. Glad DIL is better Kath. So sorry for your niece and sister Flo. Glad your friend is doing well Patti. I don't think I've ever complained about the office being too hot

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Morning! today is the day the baytree in the garden gets cut down by half. It's a monster but the cuttings will be used in our village door wreaths so it won't go to waste.

Tomorrow is Big Greenery Day as we In Bloomers go around trimming our own gardens and those of friends in order to make the 60 door rings we have on order. Making them on Monday. I may be asleep all day Tuesday!

M.T. McGuire (mtmcguire) | 8049 comments It's brass monkeys here but we've only had flurries of snow, none really sat for long. My knee is evil though, and my friends knees, where they're similar, are evil too. Think it's the weather.

I have done a totally random blog post if anyone's interested: https://mtmcguire.co.uk/2017/12/02/ra...

Cheers

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments That's what he'll be doing with the clippings Patti! Poodle fur fashion - it's so hot right now.

Afternoon all. Fundraising afternoon tea this afternoon - successful but I am seriously worn out now.

message 837: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Don't rush for the knee replacement. Recovery takes many months. I was talking to a bloke in my local petrol station who is your age, mary and had it done 5 years ago: he said if offered the other knee he would decline, using every expletive at his command. (And he's welsh so that's rather a lot of them)

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12592 comments Well, not done nearly enough housework. Car passed MOT with no problems, was really foggy despite being 4, the highest I've seen all week, it felt a lot colder. Ended up going to light up twice, as my friend wanted some kale, I had (randomly) come home from the vet with a bag! So had to come home and go back, although that took forever as kept bumping into people I knew. Worked out well, as I came back with 5 chocolate prizes for the tombola tomorrow, didtake a pic before I started ticketing. Glad I bought a microwave tea, and got given cake. Next time my neighbour volunteers to do a fundraiser, she's on her own!

Fundraising afternoon tea sounds fun. Sounds exhausting Kath

That is scary - not healing for months back then might have been because she wasn't given the correct antibiotic then, either. I'm so sorry.

As the proud possessor of who knows what (also known as ME/CFS), I never know when something will happen, and they don't know what to give us, so I can definitely empathize. Not a good thing, except that now they know for your girl - and proper treatment can proceed. Best to her.

I keep hoping that will happen for us - like when that Australian researcher definitively proved stomach ulcers were caused by H. pylori, and fixable!

You have me digging into the 'arcanobacterium' information on Google.

And now something is walking on my grave: arcanobacterium haemolyticum is one of them which 'was first described by MacClean et al. in 1946 from US servicemen and peoples of the South Pacific suffering from sore throat' (Wikipedia) - as that is exactly how my CFS started: a raging sore throat.

Thanks for mentioning details. It's probably not my problem, but I am going to do some reading.

Would you mind very much telling me which antibiotics she is on?

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Good morning!

Dave's eldest had ME as a child. Thankfully, it's resolved now but he was in a wheelchair for a time.
Started as flu-like symptoms for him as well.

Dave wants to make huevos rancheros for breakfast, so I've made some refried beans. Nothing like a garlic stinking flat at 8am.

Need to shop before he starts cooking.
Grey and drizzly and I don't want to go out!

I'm glad it's resolved; however, it's still infuriating, because without a sure test for the condition, it is impossible to know if things with very similar symptoms are, in fact, the same disease - and to learn anything from them resolving or being cured.

I'm really happy Dave's eldest is better - wouldn't wish a wheelchair on anyone, especially with such low energy.
