Kath Middleton | 23860 comments Oh, Flo. So sorry. You could take it personally, couldn't you? X

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Sorry for you Flo, it’s never ending at the moment for you. Big cwtch.

We're all here to lend an ear, darling.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, woke up to white roofs and car - I didn't believe we'd get anything so didn't put the cover on the car. Docs first thing (thanks Alicia, although it's nothing compared to Flo!) then a deadline followed by a meeting. Its our department night out but not looking forward to it.

I'm corporate wifing tonight and I'm not looking forward to it either. Mainly because McOther will get too pissed at his corporate lunch and I'm meeting him there, during the meal because like all Cambridge things, it starts at about half six and our baby sitter can't make it until after 7pm. And because he'll be really hung over tomorrow morning and on a day when I really, desperately don't want to, I'm bracing myself for having to take McMini to football in his place.

Cheers

MTM

Benjamin Appleby-Dean (benjaminappleby-dean) Morning all. Sorry to hear, Flo - sounds absolutely awful, and hope they both recover soon.

message 959: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Flo, that's dreadful. Best karma your way - sounds as if you need it.

The snow missed me again. Instead i was treated to a hail storm

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments Good morning, we shared that hailstorm Will. It’s lovely in the sun now but it’s very cold in the shade. I’ve had some lovely photos of the new baby, he’s putting on weight. His mum is attached to a briefcase sized pump which isn’t very convenient but she’ll still have to have more surgery. Her and her partner have been so stoic and uncomplaining, but if one more person says something along the lines of God only gives troubles to those who can cope, I shall be very very rude.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Alla has been coughing all over my flat all day.
I told her to go home but she insists she's alright.

I'm gonna have to de-germ everything once she leaves.

We had lovely blue skies this morning but now it's pissing down.

One more week, then I can enjoy a whole different sort of rain.

message 962: by Will (new)

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments What sort of rain? Purple, I hope.

Gingerlily - The Full Wild | 34228 comments Welsh rain, Will. Something you would be very familiar with.

Will Macmillan Jones (willmacmillanjones) | 11324 comments Nope, don't think we get that, do we Lynne?

You must be thinking of Ireland

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Doc said my chest didn’t sound bad, but as it’s affecting my voice again and I’ve been coughing on and off for a month, she gave me a different kind of antibiotics, as she said if it was viral, it would have cleared by now. Decided that was a good opportunity to cancel going out tonight, as it is already 0, and forecast to get as low as -2 tonight, last week wasn’t that cold and made my chest hurt and took an hour to warm up after getting home so I could get to sleep!! My neighbour went away this morning, so means I have to sort my own tea out now. Should make a start on the housework, but might just chill out for the evening.

I can imagine you are in that mood by now Lynne!! Good luck with this evening MT

message 966: by Kath (new)

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments How do, each? Went shopping for stuff to make my cards. I've alwayse made Christmas cards as far back as I can remember. Of course, the older you become, the harder it is to think of a different idea!

Bitterly cold here but bright and sunny.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Nice you're helping to keep postal workers in a job.

Apparently, in a couple of countries you can get the posties to mow your lawn or check your elderly relatives.

Heard that on There's No Such Thing as a Fish podcast last week.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Making fish n chips for dinner. Only have wine vinegar in the cupboard.

Kath Middleton | 23860 comments There's posh!

message 970: by Patti (baconater) (new)

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Now that's funny, Kath.

Only reason I bought it is cuz it's dead cheap made from crap Azeri wine and the cider vinegar imported from the UK was five times the price.

So, yeah.

Posh. :D

Rosemary (grooving with the Picts) (nosemanny) | 8590 comments Ah Flo you’ve not had your troubles to seek this year, have you? Here’s hoping things are better soon.

No snow here, clear skies in fact, but wind chill hitting minus 10. Turns out the anemometer hadn’t blown away.

I have spent a large part of the afternoon clearing the kitchen waste pipe (boak) and am feeling ticked off.

Lynne (Tigger's Mum) | 4643 comments We heard a terrific bang and crash and door slam while we were eating lunch. Thought it could be postman putting a parcel in but we checked both doors and they were locked. It sounded as if we had burglars - It was a pigeon fallen down the chimney, you can imagine the mess. It hit the door to the hall so hard it shut it leaving a sooty mark. I got a big towel and gave it OH to catch it in. I’d be useless at it, I’d flap more than the bird, I really hate pigeons. It took him ages as it was really crafty and they went round and round the table. He caught it eventually but it made us late getting Billy to the vets. Good job we didn’t have a fire lit or it might have been a flaming pigeon he was chasing.

message 974: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Small complaint: my body has gotten into the recent habit of not wanting to go to sleep until some time after 4-6 am, and that's no way to write fiction, so I'm grumpy, more exhausted than usual, and working hard not to inflict all this on the spouse, who has his own problems.

Sat down this morning and wrote it all out, and have some strategies, but it's getting old (I can't take meds, and can't force myself to get up at the regular time, so normal recommendations don't help).

Have a bunch of things which need to be finished, but are being held up by other people - and I can't seem to budge them. This, too, shall eventually pass, but it is annoying.

All my stress-busting techniques are having trouble - you can only do yoga breathing for so many hours!

message 975: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments So sorry, Flo. Your family is certainly having a rough time. Take Care.

Still have a million things to do and slowly ploughing through it. We are out for Christmas Day tomorrow. Yep, I said Christmas Day.

Our friends lived the expat life when they first came to Jersey and were youngsters. They would host a Christmas lunch a few weeks before Christmas for all their friends as all of them would be spending Christmas in whichever part of the world they called home.

Now they do the same early Christmas event but just for close friends (and you don't need to be an ex-pat).

So we'll be having an actual Christmas Day. Turkey, trimmings, posh starters, home-made sorbets and puddings, and crackers. Twinkling lights, pressies under the tree and, after several glasses of wine, charades or some silly board game.

I'll see you Sunday!

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Do hope your strategies work Alicia.

Just had a nightmare - neighbour is away, two of us cat sit, had a phone call from the other neighbour saying she'd had a problem opening the bedroom door, I went over to investigate, and the door shut! Knocked on another neighbours door who had fallen asleep so was initially reluctant to help, but fortunately persuaded him. Something in the handle had broke, I thought we were going to have to break the door, as the cats had run in when I went up, so were locked in! Glad I managed to get a reduced ready meal when I nipped to the co-op

Michael Cargill (michaelcargill) | 2992 comments This cold weather is annoying.

Although I warm up after five minutes of walking, it doesn't stop my hands from feeling like they're going to fall off.

T4bsF (Call me Flo) (time4bedsaidflorence) Thanks everyone for all your kind words and I wish I could say that things have improved - but when we arrived at the hospital this morning, it was to find that my Brother had been in the admissions ward of the hospital still sat in his wheelchair!!!! He was absolutely knackered and couldn't even string a sentence together without nodding off. They had - apparently - had an extremely difficult night -having to borrow Doctors from the wards to cover A&E. We didn't like to add to their troubles - but after some harrassment - we managed to get him a trolley bed and he immediately and deeply went to sleep. His kidney function is very poor and this is the most worrying factor at the moment - but he's also anaemic.
My Niece had to go to the eye clinic to get her eyesight checked to make sure the shingles hadn't damaged her eyesight and to have her antivirals. As she is no longer allowed to visit her Mum in the hospital - she is going to go home to Stevenage tonight.

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Morning all, woke up ridiculously early, stayed in bed watching TV to try and get back to sleep but failed. -2 according to my phone, glad I'm fundraising inside. Then getting the last few Christmas presents on the way home, before starting the housework. Doc warned me the new ab's might leave a nasty taste in my mouth, was not a pleasant thing when I woke up.

Just when you thought things couldn't get worse Flo, do hope they find out what is wrong with your brother

message 980: by Kelly (new)

Kelly Clayton | 1040 comments Morning,

Sending vibes that you can stay warm, Desley. Flo, hopefully the docs can find out what is wrong with your brother soon. Thankfully he has you to champion him.

Grey day. No snow. I am a big baby and would love a teeny bit of snow. Going to put in a few hours in the study and then get ready for lunch party.

Hope you all have a good Saturday doing whatever needs to get done as Christmas inches closer.

Patti (baconater) (goldengreene) | 56525 comments Hi all.

Everyone having a busy day?

I've had a lazy afternoon reading Alias Grace. Gonna have to shift my butt into gear and start dinner soon.

I'm going to make Cornish pasties.

Lisa Marie Gabriel (lisamariegabriel) | 1066 comments Hi Patti and everyone, I am running a cable out to the log cabin right now. I plan to get out and write in there every day and although we have power from sun and wind, a 600W inverter won't handle the fan heater - and boy is it cold. Work on the cabin is more or less finished, except on the furniture. I had to stop because I had a nasty chest infection and then a bad dose of trigger finger which has limited a lot of things including posting here. Everyone is fine other than aches, pains and coughs which we can live with a while longer.

At the moment I am pretending to be house-trained and making some flax seed crackers. Baking is warmer than sanding and polishing in the yard as well as easier on the hands. No snow yet. It is a bit grey and very cold. Yesterday we had bright sunshine all day! Amazing. So I shall go and check on the cookies... I hope all is well with you all and that you are coping with preparations for the Yuletide Festivations. :D

Off to the market now ... if it's still open. ;-)

Cheers

Desley (Cat fosterer) (booktigger) | 12593 comments Well, had an interesting fundraiser, got 5 mins up the road to discover I'd left my certificates etc, and that was the sole purpose of being there, fortunately I'd set off early so just arrived on time, it was -3 when I set off, which is unusual. We took in a cruelty case dog this week, and we are short of volunteers at the rescue, so I offered to look after the dog, she has been through so much but still trusting. Good job as no one wanted certificates, I'd have been bored. Started snowing while we were there, then got worse while in Lidl, so was mildly panicking. Couldn't get what I wanted from the garden centre though. Rather tired now, got a decent amount of housework done though, just got to spend time with the neighbours cats and my fosters, then cook pad thai. Keep getting that awful taste in my mouth, only on day 2 of the week course, not coughing as much though.

Sorry you've also been poorly Lisa.

They have, thank you. Going back to basics helped: using my Daylight as early as possible for longer than usual seems to have helped reset my pineal gland. Or I'm so exhausted anything would have done it.

How long was your brother sitting unattended in a wheelchair? That is outrageous. And can't possibly have made him feel better. Did he even get meals? I'm glad you could get him horizontal and some sleep time, but that's no way to treat a sick person.

message 995: by Alicia (new)

Alicia Ehrhardt (aliciabutcherehrhardt) | 4834 comments Trying to follow my own advice - zinc and Vitamin C to see if I can head off something which is making me sneeze. Out of zinc lozenges, and I thought I had another form of zinc but can't find it.

We had snow today.

I got to watch my neighbor bin six large containers full of fallen leaves, and take them across the street to dump them in front of the neighbor's house! I can't believe he'd do that - the neighbors are trying to sell their house, and only have one son living there to keep an eye on things. Unbelievable, as there are no more street leaf collections scheduled for this year. This is the guy who was operating the jet-engine-powered leaf blower this morning when I was trying to get a bit of extra sleep on a Saturday morning.

Can't wait to get this house on the market and get out of here.
