Morning all - quite windy here - but the sun is out and there's quite a bit of lovely blue sky at the moment. Please everyone - cross your fingers for dry weather tomorrow for me. I don't mind if it's cloudy and dull - as long as it stays dry. I've got a very leaky conservatory roof and they are coming with the new glass to fix it tomorrow and they won't be able to do it if it's raining.Really good news about Oli Lynne - let's hope Mum can get herself back to wellness soon.
Foul drive back last night in a storm. saw at least one crash, and that was in a car park!So not looking forward to getting up and driving to Derby for 9 am on Saturday.
(Edit: Except for the fact i'll spend the day chatting with Jim, of course)
I’m finished for the day. He asked me to ‘sort out’ (clean) a patch of condensation marks on the bay ceiling in our bedroom It’s not mould yet but was gearing up to be. Well you can’t just wipe one spot on a white ceiling can you. I had to wash & wipe the lot. Being idle I was standing on a chair not the ladder so made more work for myself. Then while I’d got the cleaning stuff out I decided to do the same in a cold pantry. That was quite bad as the cold water inlet comes in there and we get a lot of condensation. Again no ladder just a step stool. So I’m struggling to reach above the window with the cloths on a stick, covered in bleach and he comes into the pantry with his iPad to show me a picture of a seal marooned on the road near us, I told him to stick his iPad up his bum. Was that a bit harsh?
Not harsh enough Lynne!! Apparently after taking 7 days to come out, the heating engineer isn't sure he can fix the boiler

Afternoon everyone. DiL is in surgery as we speak so we popped down to the hospital this morning so she and our Jim and little Eli could have a bit of time together. Don't think we'll hear more till later this afternoon, or maybe evening.I think that iPad was going in the place he deserved it, Lynne!
I've just mentioned my free book in suitable places - I hope I actually put the link in, as things are jolly hectic here - I'll go back and check!
See you tomorrow x
Let us know when you have word on DIL, Kath.Best thoughts, of course!
Lynne, I wouldn't have said it, I'd have placed it.

Jealous of your chatting with Jim day!

Jim has to go down the day before because of time/distance etc
Jim goes to station today.
Because I'm 'one of their regulars' (the lass behind the counter recognises me so that makes me one of the special ones!) she told me not to buy a ticket today because if it rains again there might not be any service at all.
At the moment they're taking them to Grange, abandoning them on the platform in the hope that a bus will eventually come along to take them to Lancaster to join the main line
This means a 1hr journey can take 2 hrs even if you get the first bus
But if it rains overnight even that might break down so it might be Jim driving tomorrow, if I can make it to the M6

Had I a string of friends with spare floors at fifteen mile intervals between here and Derby it might have been a tempting option ;-
Oh and the waist belt of my rucksack still fits me and is on the same setting I had it on in 1982 :-)
hi all,Sorry i haven't been around much. It seems my company are in the process of slowly screwing me over. They have moved my reporting line to someone on the same level as me without moving them up a level. Can't see that as anything but a demotion. Now just waiting to see what happens with this change. Oh and to add to the insult my new "manager" hasn't even contacted me yet!
So yeah, great news for me.
I hope everyone is better than me at the moment.
Lindsay wrote: "I also apologise for dumping on here but have literally no where else to do it."dump away, that's what we're for.
On the other hand, if your new manager doesn't contact you it's there fault if you're not doing the right thing :-)
We never mind sharing good news and less good, Lindsay. It's horrible when things go bad at work because you spend so much of your life there. I hope things buck up, or you end up somewhere you're more appreciated.
Ah Lindsay sorry to hear that, but I'm sure wee Dex is a ray of sunshine to take your mind off all thatSunny this morning - which was a relief after the deluge yesterday - went out for a walk, and discovered my own personal cloud :(
Lindsay wrote: "I also apologise for dumping on here but have literally no where else to do it."Don't be daft, we are here for good and bad. Sorry that the new job isn't going well. Good luck with travelling tomorrow Jim.
I had a rubbish afternoon at work, same colleague as the rest of the week and had to stand up to him again. Feel really drained this evening and ordered the wrong inhaler, just hope I remember when I go for my flu jab in the morning. On the plus side, this weekend's fundraiser has been cancelled
DiL out of surgery and all seems to have gone well. Her leg is cut from the thigh to below the knee so the infection could be removed. She's on morphine and feeling a bit woozie but the worst's over.
Kath wrote: "DiL out of surgery and all seems to have gone well. Her leg is cut from the thigh to below the knee so the infection could be removed. She's on morphine and feeling a bit woozie but the worst's over."Glad to hear it seems to have gone well, good luck for her recovery
Thanks. I think she's going to be sore for a while and she has to keep her weight off it for two months.

thanks for that.
We'll send the boys round to deal with your colleague :-)
Spent the day reading Jim Webster's new And sometimes I just sits?, laughing, and thinking. Good thing to do on our Thanksgiving.
Lindsay.... Having done more than my fair share of "dumping" on here over the last couple of months (or has it stretched into a year yet?) - I'm so thankful for the words of comfort extended to me and my family, by you lot - that I can truthfully say what a help it's been just to have a moan to someone who isn't in the same family boat.... so "dump" away - we're all here for you. Kath - glad that the worst is over for your DiL - all good wishes for the recovery from the op to be speedy and sure.

If a group like this cannot provide a bit of support and help folk to vent, it's not much use ;-)

Strikes me as the perfect day. Would that 323.1 million had decided to do it ;-)
Kath, hope your DIL doesn't have any more bumps on the road to recovery.Lindsay, hope things get more peaceful for you and yours.
Jim wrote: "Alicia wrote: "Spent the day reading Jim Webster's."I reached the end wondering how long until the next one. I know they take time, but...
So glad about the baby and Lynne, I really think you were the model of restraint.Lindsay, organisations make such crappy decisions that make no sense and simply demotivate people. Hope it all comes out in the wash but it is rubbish to go through right now. You have a lovely family and that makes up for so much of life's rubbish.
Kath, sending good wishes and positive vibes to the DIL for speedy recovery.
Alicia, read your blog. WOW You are certainly a detail girl. Good on you.
Sorry for you Lindsay and Desley. Atmosphères and office politics are bad news. I only had it in one job but it causes stress when you don’t need it. Hope Kaths DIL gets better now they’ve cleared the infection.
Ah, shit Lindsay. Ineffective leadership is maddening and causes so much strife.
Our school is going through much the same thing, so I can empathise.
It's shocking when leaders don't realise that their actions can lead to the downfall of an entire community.
Let's hope they see the errors before it's too late.
Got my first set of results back, for my theory exam last week. Passed, and did better than I expected :) Feedback from our mocks today and then the real things on Monday. Had a chat with my tutor yesterday who seemed to be fairly happy with the one he ran (it's 7 10 minute practical exams to check we're safe to be released on the road!) which I'm pleased with, although I'll find out more today. Apparently I made up a little part of the scenario myself, well if you give me a bunch of imaginary firefighters and police on scene, I'm going to put them to use!!Might have found the area I want to focus on once I'm qualified (because I'm absolutely running before I can walk here!!).
And I have my first 9 shifts... all nights!! Just waiting for Christmas week to be released now so I can get planning!
Glad to hear that Kath, hope she recovers quickly! And that kind of thing can be awful, Lindsay, especially when you've got the kind of workplace who won't be upfront about it. Hope iot improves soon.

congratulations
Morning all, really cold here. Flu jab this morning, fortunately cold is much better. 3 deadlines but fortunately no meeting, hopefully people will be in a better mood. A couple of errands after work, and meeting a friendSo glad you did well Claire
Well done, Claire! We're proud of you.Lindsay - dump away! There are few things worse in this life than a rubbish boss. I've had a few, although not in the biblical sense.
At this stage, it could still be okay, Nothing really awful seems to have happened yet, so it is possible that you might be frightened by things that aren't as bad as they seem. Fingers crossed that it works out for you!
Good morning all.
Morning all. Mixed bag of lessons today, but at least it's keeping me busy. That's good news, Kath. I hope it's a speedy recovery from here on in!
Lindsay, that sucks! I wonder if your new 'manager' is a bit underwhelmed by their sideways promotion, which is why they haven't contacted you yet? Either way, it's not a great feeling. I hope things work out for you.
Well, the morning bell's about to go, so I'd better go and grab a coffee before the onslaught ...
Teacher fuel!Maintenance were here earlier and finally replaced the electrics box they broke weeks ago.
Flimsy piece of plastic shite.
Fed cattle, fed sheep, about to get changed and catch a train to DerbyThey've decided to run them again now the water level has fallen :-)
Well done Claire!DiL doing well. Up on crutches already - mind you, since that initial break, she's become an expert. Still in lots of pain but hearing about what they did - cut a window in the bone to remove infection - I'm not surprised. Onward and upward now.
My day feels trivial in comparison.
