Diane S ☔ Chrissie, I gave up on Warlight after 35%. Words good, plot dragged, couldn't continue.

Petra | 3324 comments I randomly found Keeping Love Alive as Memories Fade: The 5 Love Languages and the Alzheimer's Journey by Gary Chapman while browsing the "new book" section at the library and am really glad that I checked it out.
This is a heartwarming book about being a caregiver and giving selflessly to the one in one's care.
The tools in this book could be used in many everyday situations.

Thank you for telling me. Have you read In the Skin of a Lion? I thought I would go with this instead.

PattyMacDotComma Read and enjoyed debut mystery The Ruin by Irish (now Aussie) author Dervla McTiernan. Cold, wet, mysterious Galway, Ireland. It's Cormac Reilly #1, so more are coming!

Chrissie For fans of Winnie-the-Pooh, I can also recommend these three books:
The Enchanted Places
The Path through the Trees
The Hollow On The Hill: The Search For A Personal Philosophy

They are written by Christopher Milne. What was it like to be him?

Petra, I loved that book. The author lives in a ton not to far from mine, or at least she did. I still need to read her second.

PattyMacDotComma In her first-ever book, published almost a century ago, Agatha Christie introduced one of the world's best-loved characters, the inimitable M. Hercule Poirot with his very active 'little grey cells'.

The Mysterious Affair at Styles is the first of the many classic "it must be one of us" Christie mysteries.

The thread is a great way of discussing short stories, isn't it? Glad I could lead yo to it. We both gave it three stars and thought similarly.

Chrissie I just stuck in a short story by Stephen Crane--The Blue Hotel. I read it because I very much enjoyed the author's The Open Boat.

My review of The Blue Hotel:

It's always fun to know an author lives around you. I like knowing that Alice Poon and Douglas Coupland live fairly close to me.

I read this short story in The Happy Prince, and Other Stories and I liked all the stories in the collection, which also include The Happy Prince, The Selfish Giant, The Devoted Friend and The Remarkable Rocket. They all have a fairy tale feel but with a moral message.

message 1588: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Alice, the fairy tale feel does not work well for me.

Kathleen | 401 comments Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi is as good as they say it is! This one's going to be a classic.

I prefer reading more in-depth into characters, and really sinking into their worlds, but as a whole, this ambitious historical novel really worked. My review: https://www.goodreads.com/review/show...

Not at all argumentative, Chrissie, and you make excellent points in your review that provide good info to prospective readers. Those aspects kept it from being a five star read for me, just didn't keep me from enjoying it.
