In Seattle for my niece's birthday .. loved reading the bedtime stories to my niece and nephew! They asked for a Clifford book for first story and The Color Monster: A Pop-Up Book of Feelings for the second one. It just warmed my heart! :)

What is foam roller class Pam? I'd never heard of that before!

Allergies and sensitivies are very difficult to diagnose because there are so many possibilities and possible combinations. The docs basically expose you to an allergen and observe your reaction until they discover the problem food.
I am doing more or less the same except in a more amateur fashion and without having to waiting around for a doctors' appointment.

I can't eat bananas raw but flambe-d (yummy!) they are fine. And in England we eat them mashed with lemon and sugar and that is also OK.
Food and our reactions to them are so weird but also fascinating.

I had to Google that one! Looks interesting but a bit too energetic for me.

When I was feeding my baby daughter she would immediately be sick if I ate anything orange. I wasn't sure if it was the flavour or the colour but she was so violently sick I avoided both. But when she was weaned she had no problem with oranges at all.

message 257: by Pink (new)

Pink Joan, no pollen allergies for me, just the trouble with bananas and eggs, though I suppose I could have other issues that i haven't noticed or from foods that I don't generally eat.

Esther, oranges making your daughter sick sounds like a strange one, especially if it was the colour! Glad she is okay with them now.

Tartrazine (E102) and Sunset Yellow (E110) are both yellow food colours that are known to cause migraines in certain people so I was not totally surprised that they might adversely affect a small baby.

Pam (bluegrasspam) Greg- Foam rolling is a way to release the Myo-fascia tissue by using you body's weight and rolling on a cylindrical foam roller. It's used for pain relief and releasing muscle tension. It can be painful, similar to myo-facial bodywork or deep-tissue massage. I did learn a lot and discovered I was doing one thing wring - don't roll your lower back! We also learned how to use a lacrosse ball to massage certain muscles. Now, I've got to put the phone down and get on the mat and apply what I learned, before I forget!

Diane S ☔ I use a foam roller on my legs for my MS spasm and pain. It helps immensely. One of my son's bought it for me as a gift and it was one of the most useful gifts I have recently received.

Wow, good to know Diane! If I ever know anyone suffering from pain or spasms, I'll recommend it to them.

message 263: by Joan (new)

Joan Diane - are there really classes for using them? My physical therapist suggested I use a foam roller, she tried to show me how but I just cannot get the hang of it. I feel like a total dope. It’s like junior high gym class all over again.

You approach does seem logical. Why not do it yourself rather than waiting around for a doctor appointment to voice and opinion or two. Hopefully you can figure this out yourself.....unless you need medical tests done. I must say that I think a person can judge what is or is not working for them. Good luck.

Angela M A blah day in upstate NY , high 40's with rain coming later and possibly snow tomorrow- yuk ! This afternoon my sister and my husband and I are taking Christmas wreaths to the cemetery for my mother, father, brother , grandparents, my sister's husband and my husband's brother. We want to get them placed before it gets too cold and the ground is frozen. Our way of remembering our loved ones during the holiday season. After that , I'm going to get comfy on the sofa with my book . Hope everyone is having a good weekend.

Chrissie In Sweden it is common to do this on All Saints Day at the end of October. Angela, Nice you are doing this with members of your family.

Thinking of you as you remember your loved ones Angela.

Today is,my second to last day in Seattle celebrating my niece's birthday. Then on Monday, back to the grind.

message 268: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Thanks , Chrissie and Greg!

Greg , enjoy your last day before the grind !

message 269: by Petra (new)

Petra | 3324 comments Angela, that's a lovely tradition. I often wish I had a place to go and remember my mom at. Her ashes were spread over the sea, which is what she wanted. When I want to visit with her, I go to a waterway (river, ocean) and think my thoughts but have no place to leave her flowers or remembrances. I kind of miss that.

message 270: by Angela M (new)

Angela M Petra , it’s wonderful that you followed her wishes and that’s important. Maybe you could plant some perennial flowers in your yard and when they bloom in the spring you’ll think of your mother.

message 271: by Petra (new)

Petra | 3324 comments Thanks, Angela. It is important (imperative) to follow the person's wishes. In a way, she is now everywhere I go or will go in future. That's a nice thought.
We do have "Mom" items around us, both myself and my brother. Her memories are always there and she's still a part of family gatherings. Memories and stories are always part of the gathering.
Those we love are always with us; it just changes form.

message 272: by Angela M (new)

:D

These are wonderful places. A lot to walk up and downhill (my knees and feet aren't that happy) but it is worth. We had also warm and sunny days, around 20C.

Sestri Levante (last pic) isn't Cinque Terre. We stopped there coming back home because nearly every hour we had a train so we decided to stop there for a couple of hours. It is such a lovely small city! I had also one of the best ice creams I have ever eaten.

Marina (sonnenbarke) W-o-o-o-w!!! Dely, such beautiful pics! I knew those places were beautiful, but I never saw them with my own eyes, except in pics or documentaries. I really need to come and visit one day!

Angela M dely, thanks for sharing these beautiful pictures. I see these and realize how much I'd like to come to Italy again . It was twelve years ago and it is still my most favorite trip! Maybe someday - sigh !

We ended up not finishing it, and it was a good thing since we found out after that day that he didn't score high enough on his ACT test which was one of many requirments. He is NOT a test-taker (he didn't do terribly on the ACT just not high enough). BUT he won a concerto competition for the first time (in the interests of full disclosure he had only one competitor, but since you have to be recommended by a teacher just to audition, he is still pleased--the Baroque one is not very popular, I guess, although it's a good music school).

message 284: by Karin (new)

message 287: by Alice (new)

Alice Poon (alice_poon) Dely , I love love those pictures! What lovely places! Thanks for sharing. Which part of Italy are they in?

message 288: by Chrissie (new)

Chrissie Diane, turn up the oven, ell maybe , but taking a walk or going up and down stairs, can help. Oh, those last days are so hard! You yearn for the day when you can lie on your stomach again and you do not have to lug all that around anymore. I am sure all us mothers have memories of those days. Good luck,

dely | 5214 comments Thanks everyone! Today we went to Piedmont, another region next to the one I live but I didn't take a lot of pics.

Alice wrote: "Dely , I love love those pictures! What lovely places! Thanks for sharing. Which part of Italy are they in?"

It's in Liguria, North-West Italy.

Greg wrote: "Dely, did you take these pictures?! If so, extremely impressive! The pictures and the places are both lovely as everyone has said!"

Yes, with my Windows phone! I was surprised too of how good they are.

You have to go but I would avoid summer. Already now in November there were a lot of tourists though we hadn't problems to sightseeing or taking the train (to go from one place to the other you have to take the train though it's only a very short ride, also less than 5 minutes). Sadly the panoramic walk was closed because of landslides.

Karin Thanks, all for the congrats. 1 out of 2 is still something to be pleased with. He gets to perform the solo part of the concerto with a student group in May, so that's exciting--it will be his first time performing any kind of concerto (not including Bugler's Holiday which he and two other trumpet players did with his band as it was a trio and at that time the two girls, who were two grades ahead of him in school, were more advanced than he was, but he was able to do the piece with them).

This gives him a boost of confidence with college auditions.
